Young lady working up front is rude. Not good at customer service. Maybe have her work where she doesn't have to interact with customers.

I've never actually been…read moreto a touristy CVS, so I can't really complain based on location and the amusement factor. Obviously there's no actual pharmacy here since it's on the river level with no access to street parking. It's not even your standard CVS. Sure, they have the basics like snacks, cosmetics, etc, but what tickled me were the ducky plushies in cowboy and beaver hats. There are also post cards and $20 phone chargers, one of which I needed since I accidentally left mine at the hotel. Would I come here to buy anything otherwise? Probably not, but it was certainly worth checking out. And the cashier was also very nice. She did ask if I have a phone number with CVS (I haven't for several years now. I wonder if they ever actually close those years old inactive accounts). She also allowed me to simply use the reusable bag from the Alamo we already had with us to save the trouble. Oh and an entire aisle dedicated to Texas and San Antonio. It was a fun time. Also, the shelves could probably stand to be wiped down more. Lots of dust. And what's this? No kitty cats to greet me? Now I'm sad. :( I'd come back just to see them, and they're good for keeping rodents away. So for the cat haters out there, bear in mind they're smarter than many give them credit for as they hunt mice and birds to keep the river walk free of infestations.

Just the fancy restaurants and the tourist hotspots which don't really need a review where your review will get lost in a sea of 20,000 others. This place is super cute with a lot of great stuff and fun stuff and I've stopped in here on several occasions when coming to San Antonio, and I'm sure they will come back here on many occasions in the future. And they have the word five in their name so what rating did you think I was going to give them? This store is a dime.

I marvel at the fact that so many stores -- mere spitting distance from one of America's most…read morehistoric places (The Alamo) -- get no love, nor even attention, from Yelpers. Here is a general store across the street from a site with more than 2,500 photos, almost 1,000 reviews (and an inexplicably low 4-star composite rating) and has a paltry EIGHT reviews and 4 photos (which I'm going to double today). Maybe I just love general stores with the amalgam of touristy stuff, toiletries you forgot to bring, and temptations of the sweet and salty kind. They sum it up best with their motto, "Travel necessities. Hometown setting." First, yes, as you would expect, there is PLENTY of Alamo-related stuff. Neither cheap nor chintzy, there are plenty of Alamo t-shirts, cups, magnets, mugs souvenirs, and other ephemera at prices (at least based on my experience) a bit less expensive than at other establishments. An, if you want to show some Texas pride, there's plenty to buy to remind your friends where you're from and what state not to mess with. And yes, it has the feel with the old-time pharmacy catch-alls, from medicines and ointments to phone chargers and travel bags. The convenience of an airport gift shop without the high prices and drab formulaicness. Five and Dime ain't for the cynic. You'll find the kind of cowboy hats you'd find on a sorority girl at a Saturday night party. You'll find the kind of sombreros you have lying around awaiting the moment when your friend passes out drunk and you can place it on his head and Sharpie a Zapata-style mustache on his upper lip. Yes, there's plenty of humor in the Five and Dime collection! In the end, Five and Dime is a great store for both local and tourist alike. Their hometown philosophy can also be found at their other locations: On the San Antonio Riverwalk, on the Landing in Branson, in Old Town San Diego, Market Street in Charleston, Old Town in St. Augustine (FL), Cannery Row in Monterey (CA), River Street in Savannah (GA), and the Historic Plaza in Santa Fe. All great places, and all where I'll be making a stop at the Five and Dime when I do. See you there!

Need a prescription at weird hours of the morning? This place is the one to getcha. One of my favorite things about this CVS vs the Walgreens across the street is that this place has self checkout, where I don't have to wait in line behind someone scrounging for change for cigarettes, like at Walgreens. Heck, CVS doesn't even sell tobacco. This store is fairly dingy and run down. I've certainly been in nicer, better lit, cleaner CVS stores, but this location is primo. It's accessible at a signalized intersection across the street from Walgreens, and caddycorner from the Health Science Center. The clerks are usually pretty aloof here. I haven't ever had to interact with them, since they have the self-checkout kiosks.

This pharmacy simply cannot meet the demands of the community and is severely understaffed. The revolving-door of pharmacists (some of whom will openly stand in the back, on their phone--work related, sure) just adds to the instability of services. One pharmacist will constantly check the drive thru while he's processing orders instead of focusing on getting the line down. I don't blame the techs for the lack of professionalism. A 30 minute break working at this pharmacy is appalling. Please, get this store in order or do the responsible thing and shut it down. It's a massive inconvenience for a lot of people in the area.
