Traveling Spa Girl - Face Reality acne bootcamp graduate

Traveling Spa Girl

Megan aptly analyzes my skin each time I visit and truly customizes my facial according to my dryness, acne, or pigmentation. She has a wide range of tools and serums and peels that always surprise me. For over a year, I've been using the Skin Scripts skin care line that Megan uses. She recommended a variety of products and explained how to use them. The skin care was a bit of an investment at first, but compared to premium brands at stores like Ulta, the line is actually very modest, and the products last a very long time. I also am happy with the quality. Since I've been seeing Megan for over a year, my adult acne has greatly improved and people comment that "I haven't aged a bit," which isn't true, but my skin is vibrant and healthy looking. Personality wise, Megan is friendly, welcoming, and calming. Her professionalism is second to none. Her business space is tucked away in an alley off of North Water Street by Scribbles Coffee, so if you've never been to her place, she might be a little tricky to find the first time. But Traveling Spa Girl is surely a gem in Kent worth seeking. In short, Megan is my go-to professional.

This place is the best kept secret in the Kent as far as hair studios are concerned!! Pricing is…read moreincredibly reasonable: a hair cut includes wash + blow-dry styling and costs just $15 plus tip! Even better, I always leave here LOVING my new hair cut. Bonus: It's close to the university. This salon is owned and operated by the hair stylist, Robin, who is just wonderful. I've been going here for years and I have the best experience each time. I usually take in a picture of a cut I like and Robin might make recommendations to adapt the look to me. If you are like: "Good grief, J-Law's newest hair cut is amazing! I wonder if I can pull it off?" take in a picture and ask Robin! She's super about making suggestions or alterations for your face shape/style/hair type etc. In my experience, Robin can do any cut you throw her way. For me she's done nearly every kind of bob you can imagine, asymmetrical cuts, the BEST PIXIE cut ever (seriously it was the cutest... I took in a pic of Jean Seberg), and a variety of other short to medium cuts with bangs & without. All done by Robin, all amazing. (Please don't mistake me as saying my hair is amazing because it's not - the cuts are amazing and make my drab straight and not very thick locks look good!!!) She regularly cuts my mom and sister's hair as well and the sis has gorgeous long wavy hair with beautiful layers. I also know Robin offers hair coloring services and facial waxing too (I think.) I don't dye my hair or wax my brows but I'm sure these service are also reasonably priced or at least competitive with other local salons. If you're wondering about how much something costs, call and ask! You do need to schedule an appointment in advance but she's open Tues.-Fri. 9-7 and Sat. 9-2. She always gets me in fairly quickly and at a time that works for my schedule! Seriously, I can't recommend this hair studio enough. TIP: Lunch break hair cuts are awesome, it usually takes about 30 mins. for me to get my cut, and then you get back to work and your co-workers are like "Wow, your new hair cut is super radical!!!"* TIP #2: The studio is behind a house in a residential neighborhood in Kent. Just park in the drive, follow the walkway around the garage, behold the incredibly lovely landscaped yard, and enter the studio for your best haircut ever. *Ok, so no one has said that exact thing but I have had some fantastic compliments on my hair cuts.

Fringe Salon & Spa - A little grown out but showing my beautiful layers

I booked here based on the great Yelp reviews and really just took a chance on letting them choose a stylist for me. Before I get into the great work that Megan did, I'll start from the beginning. First, don't get turned off by the kind of bleak exterior. It is really nice inside with a cool industrial vibe. Fringe texted me about 15 minutes prior to my appointment letting me know that I should check in via text and wait in my car until they were ready for me. Once I got the text, I walked in and was promptly greeted by the woman who took my temperature and shampooed my hair. I wish she had introduced herself, because she gave me a wonderful scalp massage while prepping me for my cut. Then, I met Megan who was super kind and chill. She consulted on my typical cut/style (as my hair had gone quite a while without a good cut). She walked me through every step that she was doing to get my requested style (which is pretty simply, low-maintenance). She was very conscientious of starting slow and ensuring that she didn't take too much off. I'm not typically one to really style my hair, but she put a nice little loose wave in it that I got a few compliments on during the day :) She showed me the products she used when I asked but did not try to up-sell, which is definitely a plus for me in my books. On a side note, I saw a couple of men getting cuts while I was there. The stylists were doing a really good job on those as well. I highly recommend Fringe and Megan W - she will be my new go-to stylist!

I was told only after the stylist was over half way done with my foils, that they did not carry the color I asked for. They had another light shade i couldve built off of to get me to where I wanted but she pushed for darker blue. I said a small portion of dark mixed with the blue might get me closer to what I wanted but I still wanted it light. I left with a dark teal because I didn't want to go any darker and make it hard to go light again.
