My appointment was with the owner, and it turned out that she had scheduled a two person crew to clean and rearrange the salon for the exact same time frame, which resulted in her talking and working with them during my entire haircut. She would ask me a question about my hair and then walk away to talk with them and direct them in the furniture movement and cleaning, and when she returned, she seemed to have forgotten she asked me a question. She wasn't paying full attention to what she was doing while cutting my hair and left some areas unfinished. When I asked her to finish them at the end of the cut, she said no, I had to go, because she was paying these people! I was astonished, as I was paying her for a service during which she did not pay full attention. She also insisted, with belligerence, that the cut was complete, when I felt it definitely wasn't, as she simply hadn't been paying attention to what areas she had finished. I got the feeling that she was frustrated and checking out, because she didn't want to be there, or at least, didn't want to be interacting with a customer. I am writing about a bad experience that my husband and I had at this hair salon. We have been clients for at least 2 years. My husband had walked in for hair cut and was told to leave because he had been sick for one month, however, he is no longer contagious. He was also wearing a mask. Additionally, I was vey displeased with the color that Katherine applied to my hair. Suffice it to say, we will never patronize this hair salon. Tucked away in a small location off of Harbour Pointe is my new find for an excellent hair salon. As a new customer getting my hair color ed I was a bit nervous. Stylist Aimee listened carefully to me and did a beautiful job with my color.I was pleased with the results and have returned several times. What is unique with this salon is the stylists all work as a team. If you ask they are more than willing to help teach you their skills. Sam cut my hair yesterday.... I went in with a photo of how I wanted my hair --- when I left, my hair looked EXACTLY like the photo! I was nervous with a new stylist, but Sam took time to analyze my hair (texture, etc) and did not rush. The cutting process (a pixie cut) was precise and I was happy to see it developing into the new look I wanted. Katherine was in close proximity of my home and was happily willing to take on my waist-length hair for cut and color without hesitation! I pulled up to this place several years ago and walked in, not knowing the name or reputation of the salon. They were not helpful, I had to ask if they accepted walk-ins and all they said was "no". Didn't even greet me or ask if I wanted to schedule an appointment. I decided then to never go back. Then, several years later, I moved into a new neighborhood and met a neighbor who's hair looks awesome! I asked where she had it and she told me "Cutting Lounge". Since I did not know the name of the place I had pulled into several years ago, I called and scheduled an appointment. When I pulled up for my appointment, I recognized the salon as the one I said I would never go to again but since I had scheduled, I went in. I wanted a color with RED tones in my hair and a cut. Theresa greeted me and was very nice/pleasant. She started talking with her co-workers about how to color my hair, they had a discussion...this made me nervous...were they all new? Then she colored my hair, letting the color get all over my forehead....it stained! Then she "highlighted" my hair, causing blonde streaks, NOT RED!!!! Then she cut my hair, that was ok. All the while checking her phone because she had a 1st date that night and was going to be late. THEN the bill!!!! $260!!!!!! Over the course of the next couple days, I continued to look at my stained forehead (I had everyone asking me what happened, very embarrassing) for 1, 2, 3, 4 DAYS! The stain finally was light enough on the 5th day that it was not noticeable. I also continued to get upset that I had blonde streaks through my dark brown hair, not red! After paying this price, I felt I needed to say something. I called Theresa and let her know that my forehead was stained and my hair was not the color I asked for. She told me she would take 10% off my next service. LOL! I explained, very nicely, even apologizing, that I did not feel like I would come back. She got angry and told me to go somewhere else then! I then e-mailed the owner (from the website link) and let her know what had transpired, asking for a refund for the color. She sent an EXTREMELY snarky e-mail back, belittling me throughout the entire e-mail, but did refund the entire amount for the color and cut. Later, walking out in my neighborhood, the neighbor that had referred me to Cutting Lounge would not even speak to me. I asked if she had heard about my experience and Cutting Lounge and she replied "yes" and turned her back to me. This means that the staff at Cutting Lounge is actually discussing this with their clients!! HOW UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!! Furthering my disappointment in this salon to the point that I needed to post this Yelp review. If you want awesome color/highlights or haircut go to Lorinda's Hair Salon in Mill Creek. I was desperately in need of a haircut but have been putting it off and finally on a whim decided to get my hair cut. I actually chose this place based on the great reviews and " the 10% discount given to 1st time customers" but realized after leaving that I never even received the discount? Hmm... not sure why but I did remember telling Sam over the phone that I was a new customer. Anyhow, not going to cry about the discount because it wasn't Sam that took my payment and I should've double checked but was in a rush to leave. Other than that, I would highly recommend this place. First haircut was sub par and I needed to get it cut again in two months cause it grew out hideously. Second haircut I asked for another person who is supposed to be good with pixie cuts. She made one side significantly shorter and more layered than the other. I went back to have it fixed and told her to keep the length. In the end she cut my hair two inches shorter and for a girl who has a pixie cut, that's a lot. Also how she was acting using different scissors on each side and then discovering that using the same scissors on both sides looks better and the amount of guidance I had to give her throughout the haircut was ridiculous. Whenever I got my hair colored at other salons or at home, my dyed hair would turn brassy or orange in between dye jobs ... with Katherine, it just seems to fade to my natural color. Having recently moved to WA, I was having trouble finding a decent stylist that did a good job on my hair. Because of that, I ended up growing my hair out a lot longer than I normally do. After putting it off for too long, I did some searching online and found this place right around the corner from my work at the Harbour Pointe Tech Center. I scheduled an appointment with Katherine using the online system and was a little hesitant about trying yet another new stylist. My appt. was scheduled for noon. When I arrived, I was the only one in the salon except for Katherine and her assistant. This was nice as it made the appointment feel very customized and personal. Katherine took time to ask me about my hair; how I liked to wear it, what issues I typically have with it, etc. I explained that I have a receding hairline that has caused me to have a rather pronounced widow's peak (picture Eddie Munster). She started to work on the sides of my head, then washed out the product I had in it, then started to razor cut the sides and top. She took her time and really seemed to know what she was doing. Above all, she really seemed to genuinely care about me and my experience (trust me, this was a big change from most places I've visited). The end result was excellent; a very well balanced, short haircut that had a lot of texture and movement but didn't make my widow's peak look more pronounced. The cost was very fair at $40 (not including tip). Pros: -Online booking (note: you'll request the appointment time and then get a confirmation up to a few days later...no worries, this went fine). -I got in at the time she said I would, no waiting! -She is an expert with a razor and really seems to take pride in her knowledge, education, and work. -A great smelling Eufora (sp?) product she used in my head...I got compliments from people for the rest of the day! I live in Everett and always thought to get the perfect haircut, you had to drive to Seattle, pay outrageous amounts for parking, go to a salon with lots of drama where I never felt I fit in anyway, and hand over $100 when it was all over. After too many years of doing just that, but NOT leaving with the perfect haircut, I thought I'd try a local salon instead. I did a lot of research on Yelp and checked out salon websites. Nothing really felt right until I came upon the Cutting Lounge, and specifically Katherine Breen, the owner. And one of the best parts was that her cozy salon was only 15 minutes away and had ample free parking. Her rate for a cut and style, especially considering her extensive experience in the industry, was more than fair and less than I've paid in the past, and I was even given a first-visit discount! In talking with her, you can tell she's passionate about what she does and the product line she uses, and she strives to educate her staff along those lines as well. We chatted about my hair for a while first, and it was important for me to convey that I'm pretty low-maintenance as far as my hair goes. Not a lot of products or tools, and all thumbs when it comes to styling. I needed a cut that I could just wash and let air dry and still look presentable. And that's exactly what she delivered! I lost a few inches in length, which I wanted, and she cut it to maximize the natural wave in my hair. She only used one product, a styling foam. When she dried it, she showed me a technique that didn't even require a brush but is so simple that even I can do it. My hair had so much fullness that I couldn't believe it was really my hair! Product suggestions were made, but no one tried to give me a sales pitch on the way out, which I always used to hate at other salons. They just let the products speak for themselves (I did buy the styling foam because it worked so well, and do plan on purchasing shampoo and conditioner at some point because of the high quality eco-friendly products). I definitely scheduled another appointment on the way out. The following day, I woke up to find my hair still had the same amazing fullness and didn't feel weighed down by products. And the subsequent day, I still had the same results - amazing fullness and no greasy feeling. This has NEVER been the case after two full days with any haircut I've ever had or products I've used. The moral of the story is: you don't need to travel to Oz for what you seek, because chances are you can find hair happiness in your own back yard, if your back yard is in the Everett/Mukilteo area! Katherine is unique in that she actually listens to feedback - at my last appt I had commented that the last cut looked a bit short initially, but that that we probably needed to do it that way so it would "last" 5-6 weeks. She listened carefully, and cut it in a different way, so that it took the length off without making it look too short; it lasted a full 6 weeks (I actually had to delay the next appt!).
