I came here to try the $4 Meal deal (2 pieces dark meat and a biscuit) that was offered by Krispy Krunchy Chicken to go up against the burger boys $5 meal deals. Unfortunately, they were not participating.
KKC began operation in 1989 in Lafayette, LA, and has grown to 2700 location in 47 states. KKC licenses with independent operators - mostly convenience stores, gas stations, malls, universities, and truck stops.
The chicken is sourced locally, it is never frozen. It is marinated with mild Cajun style spices, and then fried to a very crispy brown in peanut oil! There is an audible crack when you bite into the crispy crust.
Since I was already there, and chicken sounded good, I ordered a two piece dark meat combo - adding potato wedges and a biscuit, cost was $7.58.
The chicken was indeed crispy and crunchy, and tender and moist. The cajun marinate is mild but does add a touch of spiciness. This chicken is very close to that at Popeyes, though Popeyes does have the edge in the spice level.
