Save yourself a lot of trouble, for one the place looks nothing like whats in the pictures, if you go to the address you'll see the exterior of the building is definitely not the same. I don't know if the place has moved locations at one point, changed names but that seems to be the case. The address on the website takes you to 10569 N College Ave. Another thing that's puzzling is the name of the place, is it Cuts on College or Monon Square Barbershop. Regardless if you make it to the actual location you will see its a very small room, 2 barber chairs and an assortment of patio chairs as you wait your turn. Let's be clear. The Monon Square Barber Shop on Rangeline in Carmel is not a parlor nor a salon nor a spa of any kind. And it doesn't pretend or aspire to be any of those things. What it is, to its credit, is a modern incarnation of a traditional men's barber shop. They offer hair cuts, beard trims, face shaves, and head shaves. That's it. Pure and simple. There is plentiful convenient parking in the large Monon Square lot, the hours are accommodating, the prices are reasonable, the shop ambience is welcoming, and the barbers themselves are all friendly and adept at their jobs. I've been going in the Monon Square Barber Shop for the past few years for a once-a-month or so haircut (ever since I lost patience with the unreliability of the Main Street Barber Shop on Main and after being totally turned off by the pretentiousness of True Barbers on Carmel Drive) and it has always been a positive experience for me. Have been a few times to get a drop fade haircut. Dave does a great job in a timely manner. Austin is an apprentice and did not deliver as clean of a cut by end of job. PROS: - Easy to find location - All haircuts priced at just $15 - Authentic "men's barbershop" feel... not high-brow salon, or gaudy SuperCuts CONS: - No blending of beard into skin - No offer to trim eyebrows or peach fuzz on ears - No wet towel wipe to get excess hair clippings off - No product to style hair on top (so it was as dry and poofy as when I came in) - Payment by cash only and there's no ATM in store - Barbers not much for conversation and the only TV in shop is hard to see from chair. I went yesterday after having made an appointment. I had been told by a friend that these guys wore masks and were careful. No mask... I asked for trim around the ears and off the collar. Basically got a buzz cut. My wife says my skin shines thru! Asked for him to trim side burns so they weren't so bushy. He removed them completely. Basically, he ignored what I asked for completely and did what he wanted. I would NEVER recommend this barber to anyone. read more

I started going to Monon Square Barber Shop regularly about a year ago. Its a no frills barber shop, but that doesn't go to say the place isn't nice. Its got a man's man feel. Sparsely decorated, big screen TV, some magazines and the newspaper and water and sometimes coffee. Most of the time I only have to wait 5-10 minutes max and often I find I can get in the chair almost immediately. The barbers here for the most part are pretty talkative and if you aren't talking to them they will start conversation amongst each other. I don't mind this at all. Sometimes I don't feel like the small talk and sometimes I do. Sometimes the small talk puts me in a better mood cause the guys joke around with each other quite bit. But the most important thing is how well they cut hair. I give them top marks for hair cuts. I have had hair cuts from each of them who work here, and all have been acceptable. A few stand out better than the others. I prefer to have Dave cut my hair because I prefer his work when it comes to my beard. I have a full beard and he keeps it trimmed up and looking sharp. He does the best at shaping the beard, trimming it evenly. I also think Matt does a good job. Matt is a lot quicker than the other guys but he does a nice job. I really like this barber shop. It is conveniently located, normally well staffed, good hair cuts. All hair cuts are just $15. In contrast to Great Clips or the like, they really shine. Guys who know how to do guys hair cuts and they do them well. They only take cash. If I had anything to suggest to them, it would be to start taking cards too using Squareup or something like that.
