You're rolling the dice when you're looking for a new barber at the last minute on the last weekday before a major holiday weekend. Boxcars! Cuts 1st Class. Pt. Richmond can have a bit of a Mayberry RFD vibe, so you might expect just one barbershop run by a guy named Floyd. Snap out of it! There are at least three barbershops in Pt Richmond and I know because I walked to all three and only Cuts 1st Class had more than one barber on duty and was ready for me as a walk-in. Request: Shave my head and trim this beard and moustache into a sharp look. Answer: Marisa to the rescue. She told me she had trained with one of the oldest, best-established barbers in the area. Everyone knows him and you book your appt at least a week in advance. I can say now he is also a good mentor. Her skill and vibe were excellent. It can be a little surprising to find a woman cutting hair in a barbershop. She knows what she's doing and there are lots of guys there to talk to from the chair if that's your deal. Been awhile since I got a haircut because of covid and been awhile since I seen my boy, Johnny ! I used to go to his parents' shop (Tommy's Cut) and I would always prefer him to get my haircuts. Glad to find him again at his new spot, here in Richmond. Clean and relax shop to sit and get a haircut. Though the shop has no parking lot, only street parking, the shop gives a nice and warm welcome. Good to have a nice chat and catch up with him since I haven't seen him in a very long time. Another thing is appointment only which gives you the negotiation of which days best works for you and usually they'll work something out. Don't go anywhere else, this is hands down the best barbershop in the Bay Area. Both Daniel (owner) and Johnny (barber) have 15-20+ years of experience cutting hair and they can cut any type of hair in any style you want. They are hella cool dudes too, always having fun with their clients and keep an OG barbershop vibe. If you want to experience a real life version of LeBron's HBO show "The Shop" with guys that can actually cut hair then go to Cuts 1st Class. It's $30 for a mens cut but for the quality you get, that price is a BARGAIN!! I've paid $50+ at other places and came out with my hair looking like shit. Not here though, Johnny always has me looking fresh af after each cut. I won't go anywhere else and won't let anyone else cut my hair as long as these guys are in the Bay. Make sure you book your appointment a couple weeks in advance. They are super popular and hella busy! Johnny also offers after-hours appointments for $40+ if you need an emergency cut or if you need to schedule a last-minute appointment. He's a super nice dude and will try to work you into his schedule if he can. I needed a cut badly before going to Vegas a couple months ago but forgot to schedule an appointment with him. He was able to squeeze me in the night before my trip due to a cancellation! Well worth the $40+$10tip. read more

I went here based on the reviews and the fact that one of the features listed on their yelp page is "walk-ins welcome" (see photo). I drove over and arrived at 7:30am on a Saturday as a walk-in and was the only customer there. Unfortunately, I was turned away and was told they don't do walk-ins. Johnny was very friendly, however, and offered to call me if one of his appointments cancelled. I was walking by this place after I'd gotten my hair cut around the corner at the other barber shop in Pt. Richmond. I peeked inside and Johnny (I later learned his name) spoke to me and told me to come in. I told him I'd just gotten my hair cut. I asked how much cuts were and he said $30. I told him I'd be back next time. I did go back the next time but when I got there, the shop was empty, even though the hours posted indicated they were supposed to be open. So I called Johnny and booked an appointment. I was leaving for a trip and wanted my hair cut before I left, so he squeezed me in during his lunch hour the Saturday before I left. It was a while before I went back again, but I called Johnny and had a hard time hearing him on the phone so we texted. I said I wanted a haircut. I didn't specify day or time. I was flexible. He said he could "squeeze me in" at 7 on Thursday. I arrived for my appointment, he cut my hair and did a pretty good job (I wasn't totally satisfied and made him trim some more on the sides, but he cut more on top than I wanted, and you can't put that back) and then it came time to pay. He said "$40". I was planning to pay cash, but didn't have enough to pay $40 plus tip (I regret giving him a tip). As I handed him my credit card, I said, "I thought it was $30. Did you raise your rates?" He said, "It's after hours, so it's $40." How the F is it after hours when he is the one who gave me the time? I prefer a barber shop that has prices posted and has reliable hours. While it's nice being able to text him to book, I was not happy that he booked me at a time that he knew he was going to charge me extra and didn't tell me up front. It's not about the money for me, it's about the ethics. I don't like dealing with people who are unethical. I'm glad others have had good experiences. I wish I hadn't had this bad one. I started coming here in 2018 after admiring an acquaintance's hair. I'll admit, as a woman, I was a bit reluctant to visit this barbershop because of my past experiences with other places. From the start, I was impressed by the fact I needed to make an appointment, which meant I actually knew when I would hit the chair. At my first appointment Daniel greeted me with a smile and in no time at all I was leaving very satisfied with my undercut. The barbershop shop is clean, appropriately decorated, offers adequate seating for customers, has TVs, places to charge cellphones, and even has a coffee maker. The location is perfect with plenty of parking options near restaurants and shops. Service is warm, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. Both Daniel and Johnny are consummate professionals who show their appreciation to every customer. Unfortunately, I only make it here about every 2-3 weeks because I live about 40 miles away. However, every mile I travel is worth it when I sit it Daniel's chair. read more

I texted him later that day to ask about available times later in the week. He offered me to come in a little later that same day. He squeezed me in after his last customer. Such a bomb barber!! I was referred to this shop by a local beautician in the area because my previous barber didn't have any openings, however it ended up being a great move. The shop is really chill, never overcrowded, and most importantly (for me) not an uncomfortable awkward environment for a woman.
