I rarely write reviews but felt the need to appreciate this well run business. This weekend I forgot that my regular barber in Berkeley was out of town for the weekend. So I decided to try the local barbershop because I live in the hilltop area. When I arrived to the shop immediately upon entering the shop I made my presence known to the 3 barbers cutting hair. All three of them were attentive I informed them of my situation and how I was in a bit of a jam and needed my hair cut. Jay (the barber who cuts in the middle) understood stated that the barbershop is usually by appointments but I could hang around and he will do his best to get me in between his clients. As I was waiting to see if I would be seen I enjoyed the family friendly atmosphere and very diverse clientele as well as the cleanliness of the entire shop. The entertainment between TV's, music and barbershop talk was very pleasant completely forgot I did not have an appointment. About 30 or 40 minutes go by Jay signals and says he has time for me. Very relieved that he took the time out to listen to my dilemma and understood how seriously I take my hair cut. I have only had 1 barber for the last 10 years and I was overly pleased with the craftsmanship and personal attention to detail Jay took with my haircut. Although he squeezed me in to see me if felt as if I had an appointment. Overall the entire atmosphere and vibe of this business I would recommend to my friends family and any strangers I know that need a nice barbershop to enjoy on a Saturday afternoon. So me and my man were in the area and he really needed a haircut. I wasn't gunna take him so some supercuts so I decided to look on yelp (cuz yelp doesn't lie). He came out lookin like a new man. Danny (D.Boy) has been my barber for over 17 years. Has always been flexible with me and now with my son on getting a fade. Prices are always great. The atmosphere is "safe". You go to other shops and feel like you have to check on your wallet, but not this shop. It's a hang out spot even if you have a wait. Where sports and current events are always up for discussion. You walk in with greets from other barbers and customers. And you walk out handshaking the same. This shop is for all ages, and great for the community. 5 stars read more

I wish I could give zero stars. This is the kind of business that gives Black-owned businesses a negative reputation. My son and I went in this afternoon as walk-ins and sat for nearly 30 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. Meanwhile, there was alcohol passed around openly with minors present (and receiving services), and enough profanity to shame a sailor. Since I "went natural" in 1993, I have been to barbershops all over Oakland and Atlanta. Not ONCE in over 20 years have I received such poor customer service. Our current barber is in San Leandro. We would have gone to him today, but neither of us felt like braving Friday traffic in the Bay for a simple shape-up for my son. D-Boys Barer Shop is less than 3 miles from our house so we stopped in thinking we could get in line for a cut and be on our way. After waiting nearly half an hour without so much as eye contact from ANY of the THREE barbers that were cutting hair, I finally said, "What, is this by appointment only?" Two of the barbers responded with some type of affirmative statement, and one guy on the couch who identified himself as the owner asked me what I needed. I told him, and then he got up and went outside and started playing basketball in the "backyard." I still don't know if he was the owner or used that as an opportunity to speak to me. After that, everyone went silent and about their business. So I spoke up again and asked if anyone would be able to service us. "We all have appointments" was their reply. To which I replied, "Well, why couldn't you have said that when I walked in?" They each said, "I thought you were here for him," pointing at one another. But the point is NONE of them asked me or even spoke to me when I walked in. I was told that I could "hang around" and wait to see if someone had time. I told them that I would do no such thing and that it would have been easy for ONE of them to greet me and ask if I needed help WHEN I WALKED IN THE DOOR. What I did receive was a half-assed apology and a card to come back another day. The kicker is, printed DEAD CENTER on the card is "walk-ins and appointment." I am left to wonder how they serve any walk-in with their TERRIBLE customer service. I RECOMMEND THAT YOU KEEP DRIVING RIGHT PAST THIS BARBERSHOP. read more

Me and my sons have been getting cut by the owner, D Boy, since he open back in 2000. Every barber in there Dex, Marv, J, Dell back in the day, all have straight bars. Best group in the Bay by far they do it all. Great with kids, luv seeing all the fathers and sons. Shop has an old school feel with great music. When u walk in u never know what's going to be bump'n from the OJays to Pac to the latest and greatest. Always that good convo, debates, jokes and i mean jokes. Plus free game about real life grown man stuff. You know fatherhood, investments, etc etc. slide thru i guarantee you'll be back. read more

This place is the worst barber shop I've ever been to. The guy who cut my hair was definitely not licensed the top of my hair is so uneven I'm gonna have to take it all off. He also charged me $25 he talked to his friend the whole time he was cutting my hair. Sooo my bf went here to get a haircut and he waited and waited then ask a guy if he can cut him and that guy said after he eat. So my bf waited for him to eat, watch tv, and chilling while my bf is still waiting. Then a guy came in and sat on his chair and he began cuttin him !! Wtf. He waited there for more than an hour and left !! These barbers need to acknowledge their customers. Rude and never coming here again. read more

Had my appointment setup at 2:30 didn't get cut until 4:00 use a buzzer to cut the top I personally prefer a scissor cut for top. The next day I was cut all on the side of my head form the blade. Very friendly guys just not very professional. I wouldn't go back. read more

I always go in to get my hair lined up and the sides taken down and the lines through my eyebrow I have dreads and usually I come in with my hair braided. I've been coming to this shop a little over 4 years and every cut I get im satisfied with. I dont normally let people cut my hair when my hair is braided because the barber might cut the wrong strand of hair and that can mess the whole hair style up but with Jay the barber he's in the middle I never have to worry he always hooks me up. read more

This place is good if you need a good fade cut and you want it in under 30mins... Buuut not for $25! Came in for a haircut after seeing that "Raul G." (Below me) was charged $15 for a taper by Dex. I ended up getting cut by "Jay". He's good but I'll probably end up taking my business else where, where fades with no extras are less expensive. read more

I take my 10yr son to this shop because he was ready for a big kid haircut. This shop is very reminiscent of the barbershops that my brother would go to when we were little. Grown men cracking jokes up and sharing their philosophy of life while doing great cuts on men and boys. But keep an eye on the magazines and tv programs because it can get a little parental guidance is necessary in there. read more

I've been to a few barbershops in the East Bay, and D-Boys barbershop is probably the best one. They have great service & they allow you to make appointments so you don't have to plan your whole day around waiting for a haircut. Also a friendly environment and good conversation at all times. I haven't seen the owner Danny since high school in the 80's. I didn't see him today either, but no mind. My boyfriend is mixed-race and has great hair but it's not easy to deal with. I've been going to D-Boys for about ten years. Coming from North Carolina, I didn't feel many people could cut out here in the Bay, but D-Boys exceeded my expectations. And the best thing about it, is you can set an appointment and get in and out quickly. All the barbers can cut, but I stay loyal to D-boy unless he`s gone out of town. read more

Went here for the first time today. Excellent cut. He knows how to use a razor. Which is a plus for me. Personable and friendly service from the owner. Engaging conversation. Clean comfortable shop.
