I was looking for a new Radio for my daughter's 2006 Nissan that would give her access to today's technology. I visited Custom Sounds and Tint in Des Peres. They were able to set us up with a JVC stereo which was a a great buy. They provided a quick one day install which looks like it came from the factory in the car. They have a tutorial after the install which made the transition easy. If you're in the market to update an old stereo into today's technology I recommend considering this store. read more

I took my car up there at 9 am they said it should take 4 hrs to install a interlock device then got a call at almost 5 saying the part was defective and that now I was gna be out of a car u til tomorrow. I had doc apt and my kids needed to be picked up this was my only vehicle. The mi ute theh diund out it was faulty they should of put it back together and had me com e get it and bring it back. So, I've waited a while to write this review because I wanted to see if I would feel any differently about the situation that took place after almost five months... and I've got to say, I'm still pretty steamed about this situation. I was gifted an automatic starter for my car the holiday season before last (2019) by my dad, who kept nagging me about getting the dang thing installed. I finally decided I was tired of freezing every time I left work to get into my car, so in December, I decided to go get the starter installed. I picked this location because it was close enough to my work that an Uber wouldn't be too expensive to bring me there when the car was ready (my husband drove with me to drop off the car, but would be working during the time of my pickup). I waltzed into the facility to drop off my key and the starter, and was told by the next day it should be ready for pick up. I figured, sweet, I'll be able to grab my car on my lunch break at 4:00. I receive a call and a voicemail halfway through the second day, and I figured that the car was ready- boy was I mistaken. Granted, I didn't listen to the voicemail, but you would assume that you dropped off your car, the next call the shop will have with you will be to let you know it's ready for pick up. I Ubered from work to this location (about $35, but much more convenient than waiting for my husband and my schedules to link up), walked through the door and was SO excited to pick up my car... and then, Patrick came out. I told him I was ready to pick up the car, I was so excited to finally have remote start, etc... and he told me they DIDN'T INSTALL IT. I honestly thought this was a joke, he had a big smile on his face (oh yeah? Did I forget to mention he wasn't wearing a mask during the pandemic, while he's inside other peoples' cars?) as he told me that the technician who was going to work on my car said it was "way too dirty" and "disgusting" for him to work on. By the way, my car was not NEARLY that bad- sure there were food crumbs on the driver side door, straw wrappers, three tumbler cups on the floor of the passenger side, and if we're being honest, a lot of dog hair in the back seat; they could have just claimed that the technician was allergic to dogs and to bring it back after it's been cleaned a little better, but no, let's just embarrass the customer. So not only am I severely angry, but I've also just been shamed by an employee while he's sitting there, essentially laughing about the whole thing. I took my keys and the starter, went out to my car, and called my dad (a disabled ex-mechanic) to make sure I wasn't angry for no reason- my dad was equally angry and told me I should just call the Custom Sounds customer service and see what I can do to return the starter for a refund. As soon as I got home, I took a video of my "absolutely filthy" car, intending on emailing it to the corporate office. I called the Custom Sounds customer service and told them everything that happened, including exactly how dirty my car was, and that I wanted absolutely nothing to do with Custom Sounds after this experience. The agent told me he completely understood where I was coming from and apologized for the experience, letting me know I can take the starter back to another location for a full refund. I thanked him (sorry Custom Sounds guy, I don't remember your name but you were really sweet!) and immediately took off to the Saint Charles Rock Road location, where I met James. Now, the Rock Road location was LEAPS AND BOUNDS better than the Manchester location, and James was a very big part of that. I explained to James that I wanted to return the starter, this is why, and that I was given permission by the customer service agent to do so, and he was nothing short of polite, professional, and apologetic for the behaviors of Patrick, who is apparently known for being quite abrasive with customers. I even showed James the video of the interior of my car, and even HE said it wasn't nearly that bad, and that they've worked on cars FAR messier than mine. I felt so much better after talking with James, and he even asked if he could save the sale by upgrading my starter to a more top-of-the-line starter and seeing if one of his technicians would be willing to stay late the next day (they were booked out into February, this was December) just to get my starter installed. I happily agreed, thanked James for his kindness, and left feeling a LOT better about Custom Sounds. My starter was installed the very next day and was ready for pick up the day after, where James even took the time to walk me through how to use the key fob and everything. *TLDR: This location is awful, go to the Custom Sounds off the Rock Road.* read more

I made a mistake and accidentally pulled my debit card out before it finished processing. My receipt didn't print but my account was charged. The attendant, I believe his name is Patrick was very helpful and figured out how to rectify the issue. It took a few phone calls, I can sense his frustration but it wasn't towards me. read more

Good customer service!! Dropped my car off in the morning and got a call to pick it up around 4:30 pm. Turns out they accidentally sent my ticket to the people who call you to pick up your car instead of to the shop to have my window tint removed and fixed. Despite their rare mistake, they worked with me and fit my car in the very next morning to get it done. Even gave me a discount for the service. Will be returning for any future tint or audio needs. read more

Horrible experience. We were told twice that the car starter would be ready by 7:00 pm, and both times we arrived at 7 to pick it up and it had not even been started on. The second time it happened I called several times during the day, just to be sure, and I was assured it would be done. My husband and I had to rearrange work schedules twice for the 10:30 am "appointment" and twice again when the car was not done. I don't know how places like this stay in business. Great service from Robert Cape my experience with custom sounds was horrible until I met Robert Cape. I had work done at two of their locations on my Jeep Wrangler and spent a pretty decent amount of money but after you purchase the equipment, they no longer want anything to do with you. luckily my equipment was under warranty as I had to go back multiple times to get things fixed and after having to wait for an appointment to get in and drive around with a stereo that barely worked, it would be repaired. long story short, the equipment stopped working entirely so I asked to have the equipment taken out of my jeep. after jumping through hoops to get in touch with the regional manager, finally was able to get everything taken out and thrown into the backseat of the jeep. recently, I got a new jeep and looked for a place other than custom sounds to get work done so I went to Auto Trim and was referred to Robert Cape specifically. I explained to them that I wanted nothing to do with custom sounds but I figured since ive never been to the Manchester location that id give it a shot especially since Autotrim referred me to him. Robert was incredibly knowledgeable, patient and took the time to explain product and its differences. he explained the process and even apologized for my inconveniences and without bad-mouthing his company, expressed that he wanted to make things right as he took pride in his job (noticeably). also, the installer actually came out, shook my hand, introduced himself and asked me if there was a specific location I wanted my Bass knob mounted. (which was awesome) while I waited, Robert answered my questions, explained different product, brands and gave honest opinions about certain setup's I inquired about. because of Robert, im excited all over again to get work done on my vehicle and look forward to future builds with them and will be getting my girlfriends jeep done in the following weeks. it is solely because of this guy that im giving custom sounds 5 stars! his customer service was phenomenal and I recommend everyone who is looking for audio equipment to go see him, you will not be disappointed. read more

Awful experience. Possibly worst customer service ever received. Set appt to have Alpine installed in truck for my sons 16th B-day. Worked with Patrick, the 'manager'. First call was to get all-in pricing to install Alpine ILXW650. He tried to get me to come to store to discuss pricing. I explained that I live 40+ miles away, plus I wanted to compare prices between his store and two others, so i needed his price over the phone. He quoted me $488+ tax total to install the unit and connect to the steering controls ($299 for stereo, $89 to run to steering wheel, and $100 for install) which was in line with my other two quotes. I chose Custom Sounds since they are a large co with multiple locations, figured they were doing something right. I set an appt for 10:30am on 4/2/2020. Asked Patrick when truck would be done and he said by 7pm when they closed. Brought truck in at 10:30 on 4/2 ... Patrick shows me price and it's now over $600 ... he was adding over $100 for dash kit, wiring harness, etc. - all things that should of been included in his original quote and would of made his quote the most expensive of the three. I had already driven 45 miles, so felt stuck using them. Asked again when it would be done, and he said by closing time at 7. Went back to my office and waited for the call. No call. Called Patrick at 4pm to check status and he was still non-committal and gave generic 'done by 7 when we close'. Waited until 6:15pm and still no call, so i went ahead and left so i could get there by 7. Arrived at 6:55pm and truck hadn't been touched. Patrick was sitting in a car in the parking lot doing nothing, and when i pulled up he tried to go back into the shop without even acknowledging me. Had to yell his name to get him to come back to talk to me. He said they still had 4 cars ahead of me and said "he'd call when it was done". I reminded him that in three conversations he told me it would be done by 7 when they close. I lost it, told him to give me my keys back and i will NEVER work with Custom Sounds again. Get their prices in writing and do not expect the work to be done when promised. read more
