I would avoid this place at all costs. I will preface this post by saying that I manage 2 collision centers, and only brought my second vehicle here, because I did not have the time to complete the work at my facilities. Having said that, it's scary to think how this guy is treating people, who likely don't know anything about pricing, or the parts he's putting in your vehicles. Anyways, I had my truck towed to him because it would not start, and he's the closest mechanic to my house. I told him ahead of time it was coming and it still took 2 days to look at, which is fine. The guy calls me after the repairs are completed to tell me what was wrong and what it was going to cost me. This was my first red flag, as generally they call once the problem is diagnosed to discuss and gain approval for the estimated cost of repairs. He then proceeded to tell me what the issue was and the cost, which I immediately questioned. The issue was my starter, which is relatively easy to change, but rather than putting and OEM part in my truck, he selected an aftermarket part that was more expensive and tried to charge me a 40% markup on the part. Now I'm getting pretty angry, as I questioned him on why he didn't put the more cost effective original part in, as well as why he was charging such a hefty markup (25% is the norm). All he kept saying was that this is how he makes his living blah blah blah. None of which I wanted to hear as I knew better. Thankfully without asking he decided to do the right thing and reduce the cost when I went to pick it up. After thinking I had talked some sense into him I asked if he would be willing to install some brakes trhat I was going to purchase (to avoid his ridiculous markup), and he asked me to drop it off and he would look. The truck Sat for over a week and I called to follow up, he started going on about how he would have to charge me more labor to install the brakes I provided. Now, there was nothing special about these brakes, nothing that would warrant me being charged additional labor. But he was angry that he couldn't buy the parts himself and charge me the markup. Unbelievable. The guy is a straight up criminal who is trying to rob people with no other justification than, that's how I make my living. Total and complete BS. What he is trying to do is stuff his pockets while overcharging for the inferior parts he is putting in people's cars. Thankfully I know better and called him on it, and after discussing this with several people in town, it's obvious that many others shared the same experience. I would avoid at all costs. read more

I've been going to Custom Service for 15 plus years. I trust his work and I've compared pricing and he's right in line with the rest of them. Don't let anyone else tell you differently. He's been maintaining all four of my cars. When I tell him what's wrong he listens and doesn't do any work until he gives me an approx. $$$. If he sees something else, he notifies you but I wouldn't trust anyone else. When I need to purchase a used car (4 yrs or less) I have the dealer bring it to him and check it out...no questions asked, he wants to see it before we purchase it. read more

He takes great care of my vehicle as well as my two daughters and my mom's cars. As a woman, it can be scary going to a mechanic, when I used to go to the dealership, I always felt they were trying to upsell me. Not here! This guy is honest and hard working and takes the time to explain to me what needs to be done. The people who gave him bad reviews must be people who are never satisfied. I took my car here because he had lots of glowing reviews from Norton folks online. I was told I needed front brakes when I had an oil change done elsewhere. When I called to make the appt Chris said he'd check them out and if they didn't need to be done he wouldn't do them. I want to say he never mentioned a fee for this. I dropped my car off, the next day he called to tell me he thought my brakes could wait another 6 months or longer. Well that's good news. Then he told me my car battery was dead. This was weird because it was a year old and I hadn't had any problems at all. He said he took it out, tested it and it wouldn't hold a charge. It was under warranty so before buying a battery from him I called the place I bought it and asked if I could return it for a refund. They said no refund only a replacement. My son picked up my dead battery from Custom Service and we went to exchange it. They thought it was weird it would just die but sure enough it wouldn't take a charge and they gave me a new battery. I went back to Custom Service and Chris put the new battery in. Then I got the bill. I was charged almost $50 to look at my brakes. I wasn't told I would be charged to look at them when I made the appt. It does say if I have the brake work done he would credit it to the work but I have doubts he will do that 6 months or longer from now. I was also charged another almost $50 to remove, test and reinstall a battery. That is ridiculous. He also gave me a price for tires, $750. I declined and now I'm getting the exact same tires done elsewhere for $500. I think I agree with others, this guy is only good to people he knows. Good on you for getting $100 from me, hope it lasts a long time, I won't be going back. read more

Bill is a crook. Took my GMC Envoy to him when i heard a banging noise in the rear. When i explained what the noise was, he said that he knew exactly what it was. Said it was the rear control arms. I made an appt to have them replaced. When i picked up the car, he said that there was a small section of the frame that was rotted on both sides, where the control arms met the frame. Made me a little nervous hearing that. After talking to him about it, he convinced me that it wasn't that bad. He said that he could "just" cut out the sections of rot & weld in new sections. I asked him how much $$$ and how long it would take. He said he wasn't sure of the exact dollar amount but it could be somewhere around $500, $800 or $1,000 dollars. After cringing for a few minutes, I agreed. He said it would be best if i dropped the car off on a Sun night and expect to leave it for 2 days. So come Tues. afternoon at exactly 2:47pm, I rec'd a voice message from him telling me that the car was done and to call him back. When i called him back, he informed me that "he had" to do "A LOT" of extra work. I said "what do you mean you had to do "A LOT" of extra work? He said he had to replace both calipers along with the brake hoses & steel squire tubing. REALLY??? He NEVER called me to tell me this nor did he have my authorization to do this "extra work". I never had a problem with the rear brakes. He said the calipers were leaking fluid. That's when i told him that the car has been parked in a garage it's entire life. I bought the car brand new & have never had any fluids leak onto the garage floor. Ohhhhh and it just so happens that "BOTH" rear calipers were bad? RIGHT. And the brake tubes & steel squire tubing ALSO needed replacing. BULLSHIT!! He presented me with the bill. $1795.79. $371.57 in parts, which come to find out, he uplifted the price on some of the parts. The kicker is he charged me $1395.00 for labor. I almost SHIT. When i questioned him about the bill, he said it took him 16 hours to do the job. REALLY??? I talked to 2 guys who were at his shop on that Monday afternoon at 12:30pm. They told me that they saw my car up on the lift & that they talked to Bill about the job. They told me that the job was 1/2 way done at that time. So that would be about 3 1/2 - 4 hours worth of time...if that. I have also had my car looked at by 3 different mechanics since, who put it up on a lift to see what Bill did. There is NO part of the frame that was rotted and NO part of the frame that was cut out. What he did was was weld in 2 small steel plates onto the frame and then weld on 2 brackets to those steel plates. I asked the mechanics how long they would estimate to do such a job. They said "at most..4 to 6 hours and most likely 5 hours for what was done". Pretty crooked when you want to be treated with honesty & fairness from a local business. NOT.
