We had to pay an additional $3,888.60 over the agreed bid to stop a mechanic's lien from being placed on our property. If I could put no stars I would!! I was given a quote then I call and "The Owner" was all he kept saying......wouldn't honor the quote. He the owner is the one that gave me the quote and then talking to him he insisted he had no idea who gave me the quote. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. I had booked my appointment a month in advance. On the day of my appointment, they hadn't shown up yet so I called them towards the end of the 2 hour window they gave me to ask where they were. They said they had sent a text the day before and since there wasn't a response to the text, they cancelled the appointment. There was no disclaimer anywhere that a text is required to keep your appointment and they didn't contact me to say the appointment was cancelled or I would've been able to say no, I still need the appointment. I can't believe they cancelled my appointment without telling me and that they weren't able to send someone out once I called them or at least within the week. They said the earliest they could now get me in was in a month! I gave them the opportunity to make it right and they made no effort. Horrible customer service! read more

In 2018 , I wanted to have our chimney cleaned . I read all the raving reviews about Custom Masonry and hired them . I have to specify that at this point our chimney was working perfectly . After a video inspection , they recommended to install a steel liner in our chimney . Having seen the pictures , I trusted them . I had to pay $ 5000 , because we have an old house ( 1926 ) and the liner would have to be customized . After installation of the liner , our chimney started to smoke so much that we could not use it . We spent our first Christmas without our chimney . Jason and his team came few times to try to fix the problem and they promised they would see us to the end whatever it would take . Nothing worked as far as the liner was concerned . They installed a smoke guard ( first telling us that it would not show much because they would paint the back of the chimney and ending up telling us where to buy the paint ) The smoke guard did not work . We speedy our second Christmas without a chimney . Jason told us the next step would be to install a fan and after saying he was waiting for a switch , then on his electrician schedule , he totally stopped answering us . Texts and phone calls . So , to make a long story short , we had a working chimney , hired Custom Masonry and now we are $ 5000 short ,and don't have a chimney until we find more money to buy a fan and hire an electrician . I think the saddest part of all , is that I always preferred family owned/ small companies . After this experience with Jason and all the fake promises during two years for no results , I am more apt now to turret to bigger companies with warranties . I reached out to Custom Masonry and quickly received a text on 8/16/2019 to confirm my appointment for a chimney inspection. Jason showed up timely, appeared knowledgeable, and seemed genuinely concerned with our specific chimney needs. He gave us a few options that would fit our budget and satisfy our wants. My husband and myself decided that gas logs would be the best option due to our liner being compromised. Jason said he would be sending a quote for the gas log installation soon via email. Over a month passed with no bid; I contacted Jason who said I would be sent the bid via email. No bid arrived in my mailbox. I called again the same week and spoke to his wife Carrie, who apologized for the miscommunication and I finally received the bid on 10/25/19. I decided on the log type and paid 50% for the logs on this date. When asked when the logs could be installed, Carrie responded that the logs usually take 2 weeks, but they are booked out farther than that; however, Jason's brother who is a plumber may be able to install them once they arrive. No communication until I email on 11/17 asking about installation. No response via email until I call Jason directly. Finally, on 12/23 I have an appointment for the gas log installation. Jason is unable to install the logs due to an unexpected issue and said his brother the plumber needs to install them when he is available. He leaves the box of logs at our home. 12/24 I open the box and they are the wrong logs; not the ones I ordered nearly 2 months ago. 12/28/19 I call to make Jason aware of the incorrect logs and again inquire about when they can be installed. I am told that my installation is dependent on his brother's schedule and he will let me know when he is available. 12/31/19 Still no communication or appointment to schedule my gas log installation that initially began over 4 months ago. Will update once I finally have the logs installed. 1/2/2020 Spoke to Carrie and she informed me they are still unable to install them in a week. I have requested a refund and they will be picking up the logs and not completing the job. **I would not recommend this company to anyone** read more

This company is not legitimate. They took my deposit of a little over $4,000.00 and did not come back to do the work. They promised to come and do the work, but would not schedule the work. Now, they will not accept my phone calls and will not return my calls when I leave a message. Do not use this company for anything. Jason was contracted through the title company to repair the chimney in our newly purchased house. We purchased the house in November so we knew that it may take a while to get it repaired. Everyone spent countless hours attempting to contact and schedule a time for him to repair(I have the emails to prove it). He would give dates to do the repair and then never show up. The listing agent, title company, and our family spent over a year trying to get Jason over to the house to fix the chimney. Come to find out the title company actually cut him a check thinking the work was done when it had been not. Once we called him out on this, he completely stopped responding to any communication. We reported him to the Better Business Bureau. Jason is a dishonest person who doesn't follow through on jobs even though he got paid. Avoid at all costs! read more

I had anticipated that I would need to add on the cleaning, but they were honest and said that my chimney was clean. They showed me pictures and I am very satisfied. WARNING HE WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY AND HARASS YOU! I purchased a groupon for a chimney inspection and cleaning from Custom Masonry based out of Raymore, MO. I called Jason Phelps(owner) on August 2nd to make an appointment to use the groupon. He wanted to make it for September 29th, which I thought was a long ways out but I understood, businesses usually get slammed after offering groupons. On September 26th, Jason called wanting to reschedule the appointment, because "something came up". That was all the explanation he could give. I was pretty upset because this was a long scheduled appointment and we have had to make plans around it because our schedule is very busy with our wedding coming up(October 27th). I talked him up to October 2nd at 5:30pm(he wanted to push it even further back to October 9th). October 2nd 5:30pm comes and no Jason. No call. No answer to messages left asking what was going on, if he was still coming, etc. My fiance calls from her phone pretending to be a new prospective customer and emails doing the same. Come the morning of the 3rd, Jason answers her email and calls her asking what kind of work she was looking for. Meanwhile, I still haven't gotten a call about why he didn't show up or call. He gives my fiance the excuse that their computer system didn't transfer the appointment. I called and he answered and tried to play off the fact that he was calling new customers for business, but wasn't contacting existing customers as to why he didn't show up to his appointment. He had no answer for why he didn't call the night of the appointment other than "it was after hours" and his only excuse for being at work for 2 1/2 hours without calling to explain the missed appointment was that he did call my fiance back. Which he didn't know she was my fiance until after he called. When we looked up reviews of his work, it appears he has done this to several people. I think it's a good idea for you guys to get his name and business name out there to the KC metro public to know that he is poorly running a company and not afraid to steal peoples money by not showing up to preform the service he has been paid for. DO NOT hire this company. We originally hired them to have our chimneys cleaned and wanted gas logs installed. I am embarrassed to say how much I ended up paying them for new liners and repair work after he told me it was critical for safety. Two years later... the fire places that worked before he worked on them.. do NOT work and pour smoke in them when you try and use them. He promised to fix the caps at the top that would help the smoke problem?? I have called, texted and spoken with his wife Carrie many times with NO response. They always have an excuse on why they can't finish the project. I never should have paid them the full amount before starting an actual fire to test the new VERY expensive liner. I only wish I had read the reviews on this company before I hired them. I am now out thousands of dollars and have to hire someone else to fix the problems that Custom Masonry caused to our fireplaces. Get a second opinion and do NOT hire this company. read more
