I am a resident of Elgin, Illinois. I live on a court in Elgin. The City of Elgin has…read moresub-contracted snow removal of the courts to Great Lakes Snow. These guys don't know how to plow a court, especially one with a large center island. The concept is simple, start at the outer perimeter, angle your blade in (if a straight blade), and go around and around and around working your way into the center. Every time you go around and come to the opening of the court, dump off your snow and make your next loop. Once you have worked your way into the center of the court, go to the opening and push ALL the snow you dumped off on each pass, into the island. These guys have loaders with the nice wide buckets. This should be a 2 minute, completely simple concept, yet... This is where my angst with this company comes in. They don't fully do this. Instead they zig and they zag, and go around one way, then turn around and go the other way and dump snow into our yards and in our driveways (I'm not talking about the "spill-off", I'm talking about physically taking it and dumping it in our yards and driveways). I even bombard my yard to try and thwart them and yet one driver purposely squeezed between the back of my truck (parked in the court) and my bombardment to dump a load of heavy wet snow on the yard and sidewalk. Those sidewalks get used! I ended up damaging my snow blower engine trying to clear that. I wanted to send these guys the bill for the damage. In the infamous blizzard of 2011, they dumped it in my neighbor (who was in Poland at the time), ALL into his unused driveway. To say he was pissed when he got home was an understatement. Just this past weekend (Sunday 12/18/16), the plow driver, still felt the need to clean up what I did (I'll get to that in a second), and I watched him dump it into the neighbors freshly snowblown sidewalk (he was down helping his next door neighbor at the time). It was a bright, sunny, Sunday afternoon. Ray Charles could've seen that he just cleared that. Now his freshly cleaned sidewalk was completely covered with a 3ft pile of crud. I have complained to the City of Elgin, I know my neighbor did several years ago, and the first word out of my neighbor in yesterday's event was something I can't post here. But it involved profanity and questioning the drivers "heritage"... It has gotten to a point where I do the court with my own plow to avoid these nimwits doing it. I have a simple Western 8ft straight blade, yet I have ZERO problem getting all the snow cleared from around the court and pushed into the center island... NOT into people's yards. Some of us spend a lot of money on seeding and fertilizing our yards/grass and don't want road salt, dirty car muck snow getting into our yard as it melts! STOP DUMPING SNOW IN PEOPLE'S YARDS!!
