If I can help another small business succeed and perhaps help someone else find a solution to their niche project (refinishing metal cabinets), then I can save them some time and effort. Okay. Thanks for bearing with my preamble. We could not be happier with our experience refinishing our steel cabinets with Curt. Our kitchen has original St. Charles Kitchen cabinets. These are highly sought after, and we knew we wanted to keep them in the new version of our kitchen, but in a different color. A friend suggested powder coating and I got to work doing my research. Curt is the main choice in Detroit for having items powder coated. His website showed work he'd done big and small for cars and motorcycles... And one set of steel cabinets. I knew he was the guy for the job. He's down to earth and honest. It was always nice to chitchat a bit as we came and went from the shop. His stories of his escape artist dog never failed to get a laugh. The work itself was impeccable. Curt was upfront with us about the possibility of flaws in the paint depending on the surface he was working with, minor imperfections, you know. I was really impressed With how my headers came out. I held off on my review for a year to see how they held up. Everything looks great on my headers. The price is reasonable too. Curt was great to work with, and the quality of the work was exceptional. An entire kitchen restoration project hinged upon refinishing metal kitchen cabinet doors and drawers from the 1950s. The pieces were in extremely crappy condition, and I had doubts. Curt came through in a phenomenal way! While the condo was being shown, I had to make sure real estate agents and potential buyers knew the flawless cabinets were NOT new.... they were in fact the originals, painstakingly and lovingly restored. I built a Shelby Cobra and Curt did all my powder coatings, chrome plating and ceramic coating. I was happy with the quality of all the work, especially the chrome plated roll-bar which looked pretty bad when I gave it to him. I expected it to come back still looking pretty bad but chrome plated. It came back looking fantastic. Never got a chance to actually get anything done here but this shop is very helpful. Their prices are competitive and Curt still offered help even after I told them it's more economical to keep it where i am. Makes me wish I had something worth while for them to paint lol read more

We had three radiators powder coated by this company a few years ago. They looked OK when done.. However, the following winter we noticed that they were pitting--the ceramic coating did not look good when the radiators were hot. It was not until we went to a different vendor (last summer) with a fourth radiator that we learned that the original curing process done by this vendor was likely not long enough. We are taking one of these under-cured radiators to the new vendor. A cautionary note--just because the item "looks" good does not mean that the job was done right. Job was promised by a certain date, date passed, his issue was with hired help. Job took 2 extra weeks to complete. There are better and more professional powder coating services. The stuff had to be redone. We used a company in Taylor that took only 2 days and was professional in a professional building. Custom Concept's Curt is a talker tells you one price and when come to pick it up you're blown away with another price and then come his excuses for the increase. Bad business practices, bad sales pitch, bad location, bad estimates. If you are serious about your parts look elsewhere to get it done. read more
