I like that their Starbucks carries the Discovery series mugs that I collect for my partner. And they had different versions. For some reason, I didn't expect to have to catch a shuttle to get my rental car. So, you should plan for that. Once you get your luggage, you'll have to follow the signs to an area across the arrival/departure roads, down the escalator, and to your designated area. There's plenty of signage. The bus/shuttle ride is about 15-20 minutes away. I also like the number of commuter counters they have. You know, those high-top tables where you can pull out your laptop and work, those. They had several throughout the airport.

This small airport used to serve as a nice, more navigable, lower stress alternative to DTW…read more Nowadays, however, it is a shell of what it used to be, and I find that extremely regrettable. It is too close to DTW, which cannibalizes much of TOL's would-be business, and the City of Toledo is not in the economic condition it used to be making it less attractive as an airline destination. I am hoping newer upstarts such as Avelo and Breeze (or similar future airlines) can help revive this and other airports like it. In the 80s and 90s, as many as seven airlines made use of TOL at any given time. The activity involved as many as 40 flights to 14 destinations. This small airport with its 9-gate terminal actually peaked in 1997 with nearly 689,000 passengers. Years of decline accelerated by the recession resulted in Amercan Airlines as the only remaining legacy airline by the mid-2010s. Traffic declined to well less than 200K passengers, but a mini boom started in 2015 led by the popularity of AA's TOL to Charlotte, NC route. This resulted in a peak of nearly 250K passengers in 2018. But then COVID happened and by 2022, AA was gone leaving just Allegiant's specialized service as the sole commercial operator. I started using the airport when I moved where I am currently in SE Michigan in 2005. I routinely took NW/Delta to DTW. There I connected to where I needed to go. Unfortunately, Delta pulled out in 2011. I used it a few more times to fly AA to ORD, but I can count those times on one hand. I loved using this airport for many reasons. It was much easier for my wife to drop me at and pick me up from TOL than from DTW. It was half the drive time from my home and it was much, much easier to get in and out of the facility. When I did need to park and fly, it was MUCH cheaper to do so relative to the usurious rates charged for parking at DTW. Check-in was a breeze and the security was easy. TSA was friendly and comparatively easy to deal with. I could get here an hour or even 45 minutes before flight time and still make my flight (not that I would have recommended doing so). And upon arrival, the small baggage claim area with just two carousels made luggage collection and getaway much quicker. I miss this easy alternative. Nowadays, I use TOL strictly for an occasional rental car pickup. The only airline operating from TOL is Allegiant, which specializes in FL vacation destinations. These are not where I typically need (or want) to go. It has probably been five or six years since I last flew from TOL. I hope at some point TOL can make a comeback. Somehow, the decline and demise of smaller airports just seems synonymous with faceless corporate smothering of America. This is a nice little airport that could serve a commercial purpose with just a little help, some imagination and less greed. A city of nearly 250K-plus people should have an airport of their own as a matter of pride, independence and identity. I realize economics drives decisions on these things, but perhaps having that as the overwhelming criterion for decision-making is part of the problem. But that's a discussion for another time.

They can even coordinate a rental car for you on the field for about $40/day -- much cheaper than taking a taxi even one-way to the park. You can simply drop it off back at the airport. It's also the closest fuel stop if you're visiting Put-In-Bay. Nice, long runways and Griffin Air Services is the mechanic shop on the field. Overall, it's a nice regional airport to fly into with well maintained runways and instrument approaches. If you're visiting Cedar Point, this will be your stop!

It's relatively flat so even with a shorter runway, the approach isn't too difficult in a light piston. iKea is only a few miles away, although Uber and Lyfts can be tough to find in the area. The best part about this airport is the community feel. It can take you back to the golden age of general aviation in the US. People coming in who are interested in learning how to fly and everyone is really friendly. An older man gave us a ride nearby since we couldn't find a car. Really cool little spot and I'm glad it is there for the community. Pilots - keep kind and no right turnouts for noise abatement!

While I was there I found the terminal to be modern and clean with comfortable seating and clean restrooms. The staff was helpful and friendly and very professional. There were also plenty of conference rooms and a cool indoor hydroponic garden as the second focal point in the building aside from the very cool plane hanging from ceiling winches at the center of the terminal.

They stepped it up for 2013. Parking is $5 a car now, but lots of bang for your buck here. My 3 y/o son LOVED it. He was more aware this year. Short plane rides were $175 and there were 3 helicopters giving rides as well (I'm sure those were close to as pricey). People were lining up for them though. Still missed the pancake breakfast. We hit speeds of 140mph! It was a beautiful sight. We saw views of Campus Martius Christmas Tree, The Ice Rink, Detroit River, Detroit River, The Ren Cen, & The Bridge to Canada. They do offer a few different packages so make sure to see which best suits you. There is a few minutes flight safety video you have to watch before your flight. This runs until January 8th so please make sure to check it out or you will have to wait till next year ! I hope to do more flights in the future in different city's & states !

That was too far away so Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) became and still is the main airport for the area. It is out in Romulus, MI. Some think that DET airport is small but in reality it is similar to the Bob Hope Airport (BUR) In Burban, CA. It has the same runway layout. The Galaxy C-5A has landed many times at BUR so it could also land here at DET. The DET is conveniently located only 6-7 miles from downtown Detroit. From a pilots viewpoint this airport is very conveniently located.
