Since doing the single class in August, I've been bothered by weekly phone calls asking me to come back for more classes. The voicemails left have varying details, with some saying I can have more free classes, others saying I can access an introductory rate, and even others saying that I signed up as a lululemon practice member, but then didn't attend the class. Many other studios I have visited called or emailed with follow-up, but left it at a single call or message. Pro tip for management: if I didn't call you back after the first, second, third or fourth calls, then a fifth probably isn't necessary. I really hate high pressure sales tactics, and the predatory nature of some private gym chains. I'm pretty unimpressed with this business model, and won't be returning for more classes, free or otherwise.

I'm honestly not used to the sheer amount of people who go here. I thought downtown was busy but this is nothing. Almost every class is waitlisted! I think there are people here signing up months in advance which is totally admirable, but makes it hard to get in. The classes that I recommend are in the afternoon, and that works for me since I work from home. If you're trying to get in before work it'll be tough... not going to lie. The layout of this OTF is old-school. They have that back area where it just feels like there isn't enough room for the weight part of the classes. You feel very cramped when working out and the TRXs are not aligned with the benches, so you need to use them at an angle. There is, however, parking! Which I love! Can't hate on parking.

I haven't tried any of the chiropractor services or training, but I am sure they are also amazing at what they do. Unfortunately, they are also great at wasting people's time. The reason for the 1 star instead of 5 stems from the latter of what they excel at. Originally, mutual interest was expressed regarding having me on as a trainer for the facility. I even went as far as visiting the place in person for meetings, as I did not live in Edmonton at the time. A verbal agreement was reached , originally having something in place for August of this year. However, nothing came of it, with zero communication coming my way. No updates, no phone calls, nothing. A subsequent in-person meeting in September had me waiting 30 minutes for the GM who was late, also taking a phone call in the midst of what was supposed to be a professional meeting. All of this happened, just to find out that there was nothing on the table yet on paper and that I'd be contacted with more details about employment within the following week; explicitly telling me there was still interest and value in having me on board. Attempts to reach out to the GM regarding this have been unsuccessful. I've called and texted them, just to be told that my messages had gone to spam or were lost; still without any clarification or updates about our last meeting. I followed up and asked again about the situation, but was met with no response. When that didn't work, I attempted to contact the owner, which was also met with no response. Eventually, I gave up on working here and stopped trying to contact anybody at ATHX. A direct yes or no would have been fine, as at the very least, I could have looked at other options . This whole experience has been frustrating to say the least as I moved to Edmonton. The amount of stress dealing with this place probably took some years off my life. The time, resources, and patience I've used trying to make it work here could have been used elsewhere. To be treated like an absolute joke is unacceptable and I caution anyone who is interested in working here to be mindful that there's a pretty good chance that they will waste your time.

This workout hit tons of muscle groups that OTF had been missing! The equipment is also obviously quality- the treadmills are top notch and very supportive on the knees/body. I may have only been here once at this point but I'm already a fan on behalf of my kid. Having…read morealready been to at least one other kid's ninja facility in the past I know that this one is HUGE. And it has some really hands on and HELPFUL instructors. Even the staff that greeted me at the front desk were helpful and communicative. The bleachers included ample space to watch the goings on of a kids class. The coach really made sure my kid had a good time and checked in before and after the kid's first class. They provided enough support for the kid to learn but not be too discouraged by set backs. I also really loved that it was mostly structured time with lots of obstacle course time and effort on the various pieces of equipment. Fitset Ninja also offers so many other things from kids camps to special events and competitions though I'm not familiar with any of those just yet. Probably the only downsides of my visit was not noticing a unisex restroom and it being a bit far from some transit and parking is a bit scattered... but honestly the fitness/fun programming offered seems outstanding. The obstacles themselves seem really well used and maintained and that is the focus. My kid had a blast and I look forward to many days spent here in the future.

The price is almost the same as any drop in but more pricier because you get the whole day if you stay but not everyone is going to stay the whole day. The pre made obstacles are somewhat doable depending on your previous experience. You could do the whole obstacle which is what most people pay for and loop it again if you have more energy. Each obstacle has its challenges so make sure your up for pulling your own weight because physically you will be. See photos attached for a rough idea. You aren't forced to do it so that's nice you can skip some obstacles. However it is mandatory to fill in a waiver form electronically or paper if applicable. Lockers are somewhat small to large but limited, you can bring your own lock or rent theirs for $1. I did at least most obstacles and their staff is friendly so they will give you a quick tour. There are other activities too if obstacles isn't your mood, such as axe throwing, room trashing for a few mins, and some sort of race track on the side, plus a kid obstacle course too but it's not that great. I look forward to their official place which will be somewhere close Kingsway mall. Recommended for active parties, and people looking to try something different for fitness. Not only that but the staff communication has become contradictory and frustrating. Some of the coaches are better than others, sure, but my kid did get at least one bleeding nose that wasn't spotted by the coaches that day. Repeated nagging on billing issues that were already resolved, email advertising for a PD Day camp on a day that wasn't a PD day but rather the national day of Truth and Reconciliation, disorganized classes, and the no longer availability of lockable lockers for belongings all contributed to a worsening experience. There is now a lot of competition in the kids ninja gym space so we will go elsewhere. Sadly this was one of the only facilities that catered toward the really young kids when we started here, and it really was excellent at first with good transit accessibility, awesome coaching staff, and more. Now, the formerly 1 hour classes are only 50 minutes, some days there isn't even an obstacle course, and the seating in the viewing area is less comfortable. Following this business's NIMBY anti-safe consumption space advocacy, I find it hard to encourage anyone to go here. I definitely find that a lot more parents are unsatisfied with the kids classes. Plus it is quite cold in here.

The trainer I had for the class, Stacey, kicked our sorry butts to the corner of the street and back! Her great energy and enthusiasm spurred us on, considering she was carrying a little human in her belly! I tip my hat off to you Stacey! It was fun, but at a hefty monthly fee of $160 a month, it's a little out of my price range. That, and it's located pretty far south (8708 51 Ave) for a northsider. They do offer a newcomer promo for $40 for 2 weeks, and then you can decide whether this workout is for you. At first I thought this would just be a easy and fun way to get a little workout in, but after doing it a few times I am really blown away by how this is a complete, full body work out that you really work hard at - but not in that "I hate this" kind of way. The studio itself is really beautiful and gives you that "I just rolled into Southern California" vibe. With cool blues and Hawaii/Cali chic decor. And then there is not enough amazing things I can say about the owner, Natasha. She is cool, fun, positive and amazing at Surf Set fitness. I caught the tail end of one of the kids classes; amazing! Curves is a unique place. The motto the founder started this franchise on was "No Makeup, No men,…read moreNo Mirrors" It is the gym for the ungymed. A place where non-muscle heads can feel at home. There is a high percentage of elderly people but I brought my daughter with me and we work out together. It is also unusual in that it is pretty low-frills. No elaborate change room (curtain) or showers to up your membership fees. You come, work out and go home. The new owners are sprucing the place up and will be painting at the end of November 2012. Many of the members are used to working out with each other and a sense of community has been formed there. It is a really homey atmosphere as the management lets members display things they have for sale, there is a book trading shelf as well as a "I've grown out of this, do you want it" rack. The workout on the circuit is as strenuous or light as you would like. It is all hydraulics so the faster and harder you work, the harder it becomes. I have seen women basically sail through it without even breaking a sheen, never mind a sweat. I have also seen women work hard and get what is obviously a great workout in. You can purchase memberships on a month-to-month basis for $49, which is what I am doing. If you purchase a year in advance it is a bit lower of a rate. In the end, it depends what type of experience and gym you are looking for. I would recommend this one for those that are easily intimidated by gyms, haven't previously attended a gym, have special physical needs (obesity, seniors, recovering from illness) or you just want a low key place to get a workout in.
