This was a refreshing reprieve from the dreary Edmonton weather today. You get a great work out in on a mini surf board while training your core muscles. The best way to describe it is like doing yoga on a surface that moves. The owner/instructor who taught our class was awesome. Super encouraging and created a really positive environment. She always had different modifications for the moves that would rather make it a little easier if you were struggling or harder if you were killing it. There is total variety in the kinds of workouts offered. She mentioned core, high interval training, mom and baby classes, and tons of others. I thought it was really cool too that she had done some working with autistic kids in helping them to burn off some energy and really focus in on the necessary balancing. This new location just opened so I highly recommend checking it out!

I went to a balance class as part of Yelp fit week. It would be a good class for a little strength training via body weight and balance exercises. I'm generally a HIIT attendee so the pace wasn't quite fast enough for me but I'd probably come back if I didn't want an intense workout. I'd be interested to see what the other classes are like. I found the instructor cheerful with encouragement but vague ("you guys are awesome!") and there wasn't any other interaction in terms of correcting form etc. More verbal instruction on movements would also have been appreciated.

The Surf Studio is a small space with a beachy Hawaiian theme on the inside. The walls are painted an ocean blue and there are a total of 7 surfboards in the studio. The cool thing about the surfboards are that they stay in one place on the ground, but they move from side to side like the real thing. It was hard for me to find my balance at first but I got used to it. I attended the surf yoga class. Yoga on a surfboard is not as easy as you'd think! Surf yoga focused a lot on core, especially during particular poses. The room was dimly lit for the yoga class. I really enjoyed it and would love to come back for an hour long class! It was definitely different from your average yoga class. The instructor was great because although I haven't taken a yoga class in a while, I didn't feel lost at all. It was a fun way to change up my workouts and I'm sure the other classes are awesome as well. There are a variety of class types offered here including one designed for families so kids can attend as well. Classes are 45 minutes or an express time of 30 minutes. Since the studio is a bit smaller, they only offer change rooms and no lockers so keep that in mind. Like many other places around the city, there's a 2 week unlimited pass for newbies at $40. I'm hoping that there will be another location opened that isn't so far south.

I have not reviewed Korezone before now as I was a contract yoga instructor in their old facility and it would have been conflict of interest to pump them up. But I'm breaking the silence now because the Korezone team has moved - into the Pure Potential house on 122 St (+102 Ave) - and I am currently not working with them. Why does the world need to know about Korezone? What they offer, as people, as trainers and as health experts is so high-quality, so personalized, and so full of heart, you won't find a better guided fitness experience in the city. Everyone wants to get in shape after Christmas and before bikini season. Gym memberships sell like mad in the new year and at the end of winter but attendance drops off in February and the summer. These girls and the whole team of trainers at Korezone understand the barriers to true transformation from the inside-out and how to support clients through the burn-out phase of a fitness program. They go above and beyond, and treat you like family, and it is impossible not to thrive and discover your full potential under their wing. Finally, Korezone offers a boutique-style experience that includes an in-house massage service, offered by Tupelo Flo, which has moved with them into the Pure Potential house. The quarters are smaller than their first home in Oliver Square behind Safeway, however with less overhead and house-keeping duties, Korezone is free to do what it does best - help people help themselves be the best they can be.

He is intuitive about people and uses this to find creative ways to draw out his clients onto paths towards better health. I am grateful for the small progressions we've made already and I look forward to so much more. I am admittedly not the easiest client to work with, but I am getting into the groove. Some people, like me, are a bit afraid to jump all in. But I think that fear does go away. Travis is a person who conveys hope -- nothing could be more important in encouraging people to embrace a healing journey, whatever that might look like. He is one of those rare human beings who genuinely cares about others. He has finessed the balance between being encouraging and challenging; this is not easy (especially with a sensitive type like me!). Working with you, Travis, is a gift. Thank you.

He started out with a 30 minute lecture on the anatomy his stretches would stretch out, and while the information was kind of interesting I could've done without it. Once we finished the session and I was doing the stretches at home I found they were doing nothing more than making another part of my body sore, so they were having the opposite effect of what they were supposed to, so I abandoned them. My body seems to have loosened up organically on it's own, so this problem seems to have solved itself. Overall I was disappointed in the value I got for my $85. The only thing that prevented the review from being a 1 star review is I found he was very patient in teaching me the stretches, so that's a point in his favor.

I came for a group trial class last month and loved it!…read more If I lived southside I would be looking at drop in passes or membership here no doubt! The owner, Shara, taught us a group class and I loved it! She asked us about any injuries and took the time to come around and check in with us during our circuits for any modifications required. You'd be surprised how 30 second stations can kick challenge you yet leave you with enough energy to keep going. The warm up with the bands around our ankels, knees, and thighs was super challenging but also somehow stabilizing and didn't both my knees or back one bit! I loved the teamwork and atmosphere. The location is a bit off the beaten track in an industrial area but not a big deal. The inside is absolutely gorgeous! I noticed a sign that they also have "cold baths" and a "sauna." Sounds like the perfect way to end a workout here! I would absolutely recommend SVPT to anyone looking to challenge their fitness routine!

I train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Complete Martial Arts and Fitness alongside some of the best MMA fighters in the city, including a couple UFC fighters - they all do personal training at SVPT and only say the best things about owner Shara Vigeant and her facility. Upon my 9am arrival at the centre, I was greeted at the door by 2014 Global Women of Vision 2014 award recipient Shara herself. She was bright eyed and bushy tailed with a smile and showed me where to put my things. After taking a gander at the walls lined with signed glossies of winning athletes singing Shara and her trainers' praises, she had me sign a waiver and get right out on the turf. Our session started with a warmup. We did a bit of foam rolling, some stretches, box jumps, chucked a medicine ball around. I started breaking a sweat right away, but I wasnt uncomfortable. As we were working, Shara asked me about previous experience with working out, the gym, my jiu jitsu classes, etc. I am a complete beginner and have never experienced any form of serious gym workout or personal training. I was in for a treat! I had a great time sweating my ass of and hauling my weight around. I was amazed to see the strength and stamina of the athletes I was working alongside. The workout was quick paced and interesting. Absolutely challenging and even fun. I learned how to swing a kettle bell around, use some resistance bands, do squats with an elevated leg (tough one!) and even pushed a weighted sled back and forth - all the while thinking: My ass is gonna look great. The SVPT facility is incredible. Larger than I thought it would be and Immaculately clean. The air is fresh and moving, clean towels and access to water bottle refill station are available to clients. I'm no expert on what makes for up to date things at the gym, but the equipment seemed new, modern and well maintained. Half of the floor is green astroturf (all the better to push a sled across, i guess!) The garage style door at the back allows for natural light to come in as the sun comes up. After my session, I mopped the sweat from my head and headed towards the change room to shower and change. The beautiful modern change rooms were like walking into a washroom in a showhome - except times six! A line of sparkling showers with temperature controlled taps (not like the push-button, lukewarm and timed showers at gyms and pools) were closed in their own cubicles with private changing area. Clean sinks and well lit mirrors (even a little basket with some toiletries you may have forgotten) would make SVPT a great place to start your day and still be able to freshen up before work and taking on your day. (did I mention how clean it is? You know me... I like my public places clean!) All in all, I have to say I'm actually shocked that I appear to be the first review of this place! I had a great time, have nothing but great things to say about SVPT. Shara was an enormous help every step of the way, ensuring my posture was correct and pushing me to move forward. It was definitely a treat to see what all the fuss is about! I will make a habit out of this.
