She was incredibly kind. Instead of just pointing across the room, she actually walked me over to a quiet spot, showed me where I could sit, and made sure I had everything I needed. How nice!! The library itself was bright, clean, and a welcoming space. I'll definitely be bringing my kids next time we're in the area because it looks like a place they would love.

The library is spacious, clean, and comfortable. You can plop onto one of the cushioned chairs to bang on your laptop for a while, or sidle onto one of the sofas to lounge with a book. Wi-fi is free with no password required. There are public access computers if you don't have your own. Book selection is limited, as is inevitable in a smaller library, but there is a good diversity of quality titles relative to comparable libraries. Of special interest to visiting fishermen is the fly fishing collection. A book sale fundraiser is held in early June, and when I go I always manage to score some good novels and nonfiction titles for less than a buck each. This libary is just one more reason Grayling punches above its weight in cultural offerings.

When entering, it looks like just a very nice library entry, and then you see the real beauty behind it. The library is a pristinely renovated school built in 1927. The renovation is absolute perfection. You have to actually visit and see it to get the feeling that goes with it. It has multiple wings, artwork, children's sections, auditory and visual sections, complete with many different things for them to do aside from read. The interactive aspect of this library is Outstanding. They have computer systems for people to work with, lounge areas, specialty book areas, even the bathrooms are done in beautiful ways for each section! They have devices that you can rent for training, and so much more. It is truly an emotional experience to go in, look at the history, and see all of the beautiful touches that have Been made for the public. We spoke with a lovely woman, Mary Ann Chew, who is on the board, and also helped create all of the beautiful things. You will see when entering the library. It's nice to sit in the comfy chairs and browse the newest books. Before I had a laptop, I would go there to get some work done on a borrowed computer. We borrow movies to watch while we're up there on vacation. Using the website, we can check out the holdings before we get to town. When we're there, we check out the bulletin board in the front hall. It lists a lot of local events. One time we attended a free resume writing seminar offered by Michigan Works! and held at the library. We met a very encouraging person from Michigan Works! who helped us a lot.

The staff is awesome, the woodwork on the floor, ceiling and bookshelves is gorgeous and they seem to be giving away books a lot or selling them for very cheap. The library is right off of Main Street and has been in this location over the pharmacy since the late 1800s. While visiting libraries isn't something we do often, there is something cool about visiting them even if you are from out of town. If you want to slow down your day hop in here and grab a book and enjoy the nice seating area they have with windows galore to take in the beautiful day in Harbor Springs.
