As an oil painter, I have varied interest and they have secured books from other libraries hundreds of miles away for me. I don't know if they know we by name yet, but I think so. I've been in there every week sometimes twice a week for months. I also checked movies out and a frequent basis. The library is nice and clean and has hundreds of resources as well as scheduled events.

Friendly desk person, cozy library. It reminds me of the Walloon Lake one, but maybe a little less fancy. Libraries don't necessarily need to be fancy, it is what is inside that matters. DON'T MOVE HERE. I loved this town before I lived here for a few years. Now I can't wait to see it…read morein my rear view mirror. Boyne City (BC) cares about only one group of people: tourists. If you're a tourist, BC is a cute little town to visit. They bend over backwards to accommodate tourists and to kiss thier behinds. If you live here year round, be prepared to be treated like a second-class citizen. The town doesn't care about providing essential services to the year-round residents. Things like keeping sidewalks and the main paths along Front Street and Division clear of snow and ice during the winter months would be nice but since there aren't any tourists using the paths, the city doesn't care enough to do anything about them. Use at your own risk. Good luck finding a decent gym or even a passable grocery store. The stores, like the town, only care about tourists so get used to seeing empty store shelves and expired produce when it's not high tourist season. But when it is tourist season, get to the store early before the tourists, like locusts, clear the shelves. Have a favorite restaurant? Well expect it to close for months at a time (or even all winter) when it's not tourist season because hey, who cares about the locals that might want to go to a place now that the hordes are gone and we could actually get in. Need a doctor? Good luck finding any doctor let alone a decent one. This area is a healthcare desert. Be prepared to use urgent care or teledoc because even if you do find a primary care provider, you'll never be able to get an appointment. Need to board your dog? Again, good luck finding a place that will take reservations. I lost count of how many boarding facilities told me they "weren't taking new clients" or just didn't return my calls at all. We haven't been able to take a vacation the entire time we've lived here because we can't find anyone to watch our dogs. I've lived in other (more desirable) tourist areas and none of them had half the problems this area does - things you can only discover by living here full time. So while you may fall in love with the "Hallmark-town" feel of the place, trust me, DON'T move here permanently. You'll regret it.

Other options are zip lines (8 sections for about $80?) sounding good, and an alpine-like village at the parking level. September was a good time with a little chill. Obviously this changed with the weather, and the very many snow blowers (!) to keep the lower mountain snow covered as needed. Worth the drive and ($25) to come see this.
