Plus they either own, or have access to millions of books from other libraries. They sponsor a couple of community reads each year, often dealing with the experiences of marginalized peoples. Their youth programming is amazing, and they offer a "safe space" for students after school. Book clubs, game nights, classes, computer support sessions, even a computer coding club are offered. For me, the overarching atmosphere of multicultural acceptance and support feels welcoming and expansive. I love this library.

The staff is awesome, the woodwork on the floor, ceiling and bookshelves is gorgeous and they seem to be giving away books a lot or selling them for very cheap. The library is right off of Main Street and has been in this location over the pharmacy since the late 1800s. While visiting libraries isn't something we do often, there is something cool about visiting them even if you are from out of town. If you want to slow down your day hop in here and grab a book and enjoy the nice seating area they have with windows galore to take in the beautiful day in Harbor Springs.

It's nice to sit in the comfy chairs and browse the newest books. Before I had a laptop, I would go there to get some work done on a borrowed computer. We borrow movies to watch while we're up there on vacation. Using the website, we can check out the holdings before we get to town. When we're there, we check out the bulletin board in the front hall. It lists a lot of local events. One time we attended a free resume writing seminar offered by Michigan Works! and held at the library. We met a very encouraging person from Michigan Works! who helped us a lot.

When entering, it looks like just a very nice library entry, and then you see the real beauty behind it. The library is a pristinely renovated school built in 1927. The renovation is absolute perfection. You have to actually visit and see it to get the feeling that goes with it. It has multiple wings, artwork, children's sections, auditory and visual sections, complete with many different things for them to do aside from read. The interactive aspect of this library is Outstanding. They have computer systems for people to work with, lounge areas, specialty book areas, even the bathrooms are done in beautiful ways for each section! They have devices that you can rent for training, and so much more. It is truly an emotional experience to go in, look at the history, and see all of the beautiful touches that have Been made for the public. This library is small, but what do you expect from a library on an island? Franky, I'm surprised that there's even a library on Mackinac Island. But there is, and it has a nice selection of books, magazines and movies. There's also a small kids area, with toys, puzzles, puppets, a chess set and computers with kid-friendly software on it. In the middle of the library are some long tables to sit at, and there are a few comfy chairs situated around a fireplace. This is a cute and charming public library. Of course, the public is free to visit this library. Hours vary, I think, depending on the season.
