As a very loyal customer of Currys for as many years as I can remember, where I have bought many items from you without any issues, I'm reviewing the abysmal customer service I received at the aforementioned branch at approximately 13.15 hours today, 20/02/2024.
After searching for a TV at your online site, I decided to physically go to Currys, to look for a television.
After entering the store and making my way to the TV department, a staff member was lounging on a stacked pile of TVs, staring at a phone/tablet.
I made contact and asked him if he had the JVC 55" Fire TVs in stock. He replied, hardly even making eye contact, "They're completely rubbish, that's why we only sell them online". I stated I bought one for my mother and it was perfect. He replied, "Well 500 customer reviews say they're useless!" He then ignored me and went back to staring at his tablet. I was now frustrated and asked, "Could you stop staring at your phone and possibly help me, or even do your job and offer me an alternative while I'm standing here?"
He replied, "It's not a phone, it's work!" and literally stated, "There's some budget TVs over there! And pointed down the aisle! I was astounded!
At this, I told him that his ideas on customer services were far from what I expected, and asked to see his manager, where he waved me off and said he was down the front! Then went back to leaning on the TVs and staring at his tablet.
I then went to see the manager and told him of my experience. The manager looked quite stressed in my opinion and said he would deal with it in-store. He did offer an apology and offered to send another staff member to assist. I asked if he knew which staff member I was talking about and he said he did, but did not ask me to show him. I expressed that as an ex-large store manager myself, he should speak to him in private as soon as possible and consider re-training and make a note of the complaint!
Eventually, a younger and far more personable member of staff assisted me in finding an alternative, being a Hisense 55" (which is all I expected from the initial staff member), and we made our way to the point of sale. One of the staff members behind the counter asked if everything was okay, and I told them of my experience. She said "Ah, yes, we know who that would be, it doesn't surprise me!" leading me to believe this was not just a one-off from that staff member, which poses the question of 'Why has the manager not dealt with him beforehand?'
I made my purchase, even though I was on the brink of going to a different retail outlet. The manager threw in a cleaning cloth for my bad experience. I actually, would have expected a little more than a cloth as it felt a tad of an insult! read more
