It's in a good…read morelocation, set just on the edge of Stockton town centre, next to Halfords and MFI, and has a nice free car park outside. The reason it's my daughter's favourite shop is the fancy dress and party section. She loves looking at all the outfits, and especially the selection of dress up wigs! I quite like Matalan because they do sometimes have some nice clothing at reasonable prices. However, they also have some over priced items. For Halloween, my daughter fell in love with a Goth Fairy outfit. We looked everywhere else but couldn't find anything she liked as much so I gave in and bought it for her £28!!!!! I think that's ridiculously over priced for a 9 year old's Halloween outfit, but I stupidly agreed to get it for her because I thought it was £15, and when I found out the true price (at the check out) I didn't have the heart to disappoint her. None of which detracts from the fact that it was way over priced for what it was. Matalan seem to have a reputation for low prices, but really their prices are just average. The real downside with this place (aside from the fact that you have to have a membership card before they will allow you to buy anything!) is the queue for the check out. I have never bought anything there without having to queue for ages to pay.

The staff are very knoweldgeable a nd surprisingly for this store helpful. I find shoppin g for electrical items difficult but they go out of their way to find just the right product. Disabled access is excellent.

Won't hesitate to screw customers over to get the product protection cover on products (ie an old gent in his 70's bought a microwave which was actually cheaper than was ticketed on the display, the sales staff added the protection plan and put up the cost of the microwave on the till to reflect the ticket price and proceeded to offer the cover for "free") shame on you currys staff! At that point I left the interview process mid way through the "trial shift" on my own accord.
