This is my 9 year old daughter's favourite shop (after Toys R Us, that is!). It's in a good location, set just on the edge of Stockton town centre, next to Halfords and MFI, and has a nice free car park outside. The reason it's my daughter's favourite shop is the fancy dress and party section. She loves looking at all the outfits, and especially the selection of dress up wigs! I quite like Matalan because they do sometimes have some nice clothing at reasonable prices. However, they also have some over priced items. For Halloween, my daughter fell in love with a Goth Fairy outfit. We looked everywhere else but couldn't find anything she liked as much so I gave in and bought it for her £28!!!!! I think that's ridiculously over priced for a 9 year old's Halloween outfit, but I stupidly agreed to get it for her because I thought it was £15, and when I found out the true price (at the check out) I didn't have the heart to disappoint her. None of which detracts from the fact that it was way over priced for what it was. Matalan seem to have a reputation for low prices, but really their prices are just average. The real downside with this place (aside from the fact that you have to have a membership card before they will allow you to buy anything!) is the queue for the check out. HOWEVER, the Management should make all Customers aware that if they use the Car Park, they ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE SITE, otherwise they leave themselves open to receiving a £100 Parking Notice, from the Car Park Operators. read more

Matalan is a department store that competes chiefly on price. This one sells ladies, mens and kids clothes, undies and nightwear. There is a small selection of toys and books. Better, I thought was the christmas decorations, nice and a good price and the homewares. Unusual pictures, canvases, mirrors, vases, ornaments and so on that were excellent value and could have come from a much pricier shop. read more

This is a large store of the Matalan chain with a good range in all departments. Prices are good and you can pick up some brand names if you are lucky. I particularly like the baby clothes and homeware and if you are looking for holiday clothes and don't want to pay a fortune then Matalan is a good bet. There is a good range of womens clothing but to be honest I think that things can vary in quality depending on the make, but I guess that is to be expected if you shop in cheaper stores. The Stockton store also has a party selection with lots of fancy dress, streamers, poppers, hats etc and has kitted us out for a few hen nights recently. There is plenty of parking as is on a retail park and not far off the A66 if you just want to pop to Matalan and not tangle with the rest of Stockton. read more
