Only been in a couple times, but if you look at most of the small appliances in our kitchen, they are all from this PC World/Currys. The last few times we went, it wasn't very busy, in fact I think one of the times we went, we may have been the only people in the store. The nice thing about this store is it is combined with PC World, so on the ground floor you have cameras, laptops, tablets, stereos, gaming systems, t.v.s, etc. On the next floor you have vacuums, washers, ovens, small kitchen appliances, refrigerators, etc.
On our last experience, though, the place was fairly busy (not extremely busy, but much more busy than the times we visited before). We headed upstairs as we were in search of a cheap microwave. Yes, we have been getting along without a microwave because we thought it will help us avoid microwave/ready-made meals, but I finally made the plea because reheating some foods or an entire meal can prove not just difficult (trying to keep things moist for example), but I end up using so many dishes. If we had a dishwasher that worked, it wouldn't be a problem, but since I am the dishwasher and spend the majority of my day washing them, I needed a compromise.
We saw their cheapest microwave, but couldn't find any underneath the display. We must have wandered about looking for someone to help for ages. And we weren't the only ones looking for someone to assist us. It seemed like all of the staff were downstairs behind the tills helping people who seemed to have problems or returns. Eventually we found a sales assistant who looked up the inventory on the computer and discovered there were two in the store, one of which was the display. After looking around the entire floor, back room, and behind the tills, he apologized and said he couldn't find it. So we went with the next cheapest, which is actually quite nice.
Standing in line, it became apparent that we may have been the only ones making a purchase. Mr. Snarky was wondering why everyone was in with problems or returns. Anyway, when we tried to pay, Mr. Snarky had some Visa Gift Cards to use, you know, the ones that should work just like a Visa Debit Card at any company that accepts Visa. The staff member looked at them and couldn't figure it out, so she called over another staff member. This staff member kept trying to run it through as a gift card, while Mr. Snarky told her it was a Visa Card and should be able to be swiped like a credit card. She ignored him for awhile, needless to say, they couldn't figure out to to process it, Mr. Snarky was frustrated, so we just used a different method of payment. I joked with Mr. Snarky and asked if I should hand her my American card with no chip and see what they do with it... he didn't find it as funny as I did. Anyway, convenient for the electrical items you need, decent prices, but finding helpful staff can be hit or miss. read more
