Though the layout feels a little warmer and more personal than other Curry's branches, the staff here can be very hard sell, always making their opening gambit on sales way too early to convince me that they have actually earned my business.
Advice can often be quite inconsistent, and the salespeople can be very odd about not recommending TVs I know have had great reviews on the hifi sites - preferring to recommend substandard cheap stuff, that really is not as good, but might be on some kind of sales push. This has to caused in some way by the store management and how they encourage their staff to behave. I know I couldn't work prospects anything like as cheekily as some of these guys are trained to/forced to.
When I want to be sold to aggressively, I'll invite a double-glazing company around to the house. When I am buying a grand's worth of TV, I want to have the purchase experience presented at the same relaxed pace I intend the TV to exude when it's in my living room.
If they did a little more to train, retain and develop their staff, Currys would be a great retail organisation. My inconsistent experiences over twenty years of dealing with them (have usually bought all my domestic appliances from Currys) says that is never going to happen! read more
