I had a shocking experience at this restaurant recently and would strongly advise against going there. Having left the premises after an unexceptional meal, I realised within moments that my mobile phone was missing. I'd had it in the restaurant only a couple of minutes earlier; at the time, there was only myself, my friend, and the staff in the restaurant. So I confidently expected them simply to hand it back to me, at which point I'd have made a joke about my forgetfulness and been on my way.
Instead, to my amazement, I was told the staff had not found it. I pointed out that no one else could have it, since we were the only ones who had been there. The manager - who, as the first reviewer remarked, is both friendly and accommodating had a word with his staff, and told me he had offered them £50 to return the phone. Whether that implies he felt they might have taken it, I'll leave you to decide. Either way, he kindly allowed me to use his phone, and after a quick call home it was confirmed (using iCloud) that the phone's last known location was the restaurant. A subsequent call, made after the police had been called, showed the phone had been switched off.
The police arrived. Still no news of the phone's whereabouts. I made it clear that, if it turned up, I would not pursue the matter. Again, nothing. Finally, I went out the back to start looking around. A waiter followed, and suggested we look through the dirty laundry. By now it's nearly 1am on a week night, and I'm fishing around in dirty napkins and tablecloths.
After a couple of minutes, I went to look elsewhere, and suddenly miraculously the phone turned up. The waiter who found it was shaking as he returned it, explaining how he'd found it in a tablecloth.
Two questions. How does a customer's personal property get accidentally picked up during the process of clearing the table? And, as the police wondered, how did the phone mysteriously turn itself off? It's disappointing that such questions should have arisen on what was meant to be a pleasant night out.
Needless to say, I won't be going to Curry Royal again, and neither will my friend. Whether you feel inclined to do so after reading this review is a matter of personal preference. If you do go, however, I'd advise you to keep a close eye on your valuables. read more
