The prices are high and the quality is low. The service is slow. Especially If you are out on the patio.

This place is OK. The raitu was rather sweet, and the Naan 4 bucks, which seemed a bit dear.

Very good food. Rice and bread a little pricey, but overall great food and great service.

This place is awful!! Their food is overpriced for the quality and the Naan was cold and dry. The butter chicken is absolutely terrible.

I…read moregot the lamb dhansak, with rice, naan, raitha (yogurt with cucumber), and lime pickle (all of which i shared with my girlfriend, who had ordered the chicken madras). It was the most flavorful dinner that I have had in ages. The dhansak is a little sweet, a little tangy, and a little spicy, while the yogurt is cool and fresh and the pickle is bitter and intense. The madras is spicy and creamy. It's fairly hard to describe how everything tasted put together, but I hope it's enough to just say it was delicious. The food here, for me, was an intense experience and one I wish I could have again, though I sadly don't live in Kingston. Be warned, for average white people like me, the food can get somewhat spicy, even the menu items with a single spice mark. But, if you combine everything together and use the raitha judiciously, you shouldn't suffer. It would be a shame to just stick to the western-friendly part of the menu (i.e. all of the mild stuff) and miss out on the richness of the rest of the menu. The prices are good, and we got a large amount of food - enough to take home for lunch the following day (and it tasted just as good when warmed back up). This restaurant was very worth it. I strongly recommend it.

Wonderful restaurant. Feeling of upscale soon as you enter he door. Wonderful and inviting decor…read moreand friendly wait staff. Larger menu and pricing is reasonable. The only downside is the parking is street parking and on a busy street.

I've brought visitors here many times, to my favourite spot for Indian food in Kingston. It usually…read moregoes something like this.... Upon entering, they look around, gaze at the admittedly dated decor, sketchy carpet, and give me a look that silently asks (are you SURE about this place?). An hour later they're amazed. The food has always been excellent, the service very good, and another great experience and good time at Darbar. That being said, I know some people who don't like Darbar. Let me explain why. 1. It's not "Indian" like some folks may be accustomed to if they have had lots of Indian food in other cities. Darbar is Bangladeshi. That translated into sweeter dishes than other regions, lots of sweet yoghurt, raisins, and sweeter sauces. The hot dishes are very hot, but everything is a bit on the sweet side. There is very little of the pungent cumin taste that marks the Indian food served in other cities. Personally, I love the flavour at Darbar. 2. The ambiance is dated, particularly the carpet which looks like it hasn't been changed since the 70s. Curry Original downtown has the best in ambiance and decor, but the food at Darbar is much more to my liking. 3. The wait staff are all southeast Asian and sometimes there's a communication barrier. I've never had any problems, but I have seen some customers struggle a bit. So there you have it. With a spruce-up and a new carpet, I think Darbar would easily hit 5 stars in just about anyone's book. As a final note, the naan is absolutely awesome. So try Darbar; don't let the funky decor hold you back from checking out one of the best Indian restaurants in Eastern Ontario!
