Food is decent but way too overpriced for the portions they serve I've always left this restaurant hungry because the portions are so small.. I've had filling meals and buffets for the same quality of food for half the price in Toronto. If you're craving Indian food in Kingston, there's not a lot to choose from. I'd rather opt for the Thai/Viet/Cambodian restaurants that they have here--they're pretty good and fairly cheap. read more

I love this place so much! The curry here is so delicious. When I go there I always order chicken vindaloo, it's so hot but it's addictive. Service was pushy, yet indifferent. We ordered 6 dishes and they arrived far too quickly, which was the first sign of trouble. Spicing was tasteless and all the dishes tasted vaguely similar. Sauces were separating and oily. The korma was oddly sweet and the naan tasted like stale pita bread. The lamb dish did not remotely taste of lamb and there were only 3 teeny tiny little pieces in the whole dish with a ton of onion "filler". Not curry. Not original. read more

This place serves good Indian food. Unfortunately it costs about twice what I normally have to pay for good Indian food. The menu is a la carte, which gives them an excuse to overcharge for every other item needed to complete a meal such as rice, nan, and chutney. These quickly add up to more than the price of the entree. Nevertheless, some people are okay with this (otherwise this restaurant would go out of business) and if you are one of those then you will like their food. I give it four stars for the quality of the food, but take away one because of the prices. read more

After imploring a friend who may be able to visit Kingston on her trip back to Canada from the U.S. I am now compelled to offer my review of, seriously, my favorite restaurant IN THE WORLD. I was first introduced to eating Indian food when I was a Queen's student many, many, MANY years ago. I would first go every Friday with my bf at the time who would meet the rugby boys there. Then the addiction took hold. By the fourth week I was 'needing' to eat dinner there at least three times a week. I would go there for an early dinner before my 7pm night classes. My mom would complain that all she did was send money (at that time, by putting money into a TD Green Machine, oh the days) for me to spend it at Curry Village. Back then, Ali who owns Curry Original used to own and operate Curry Village on Princess Street. My best girlfriend and I would go so often we became friends with Shafiq the waiter who later moved to Toronto and last I heard, Peterborough. I grew up, moved to Vancouver, eventually back to Toronto and any chance I could, I'd take overnight trips with my bf to Kingston, SOLELY to dine at Curry Original. We'd stay at a great B&B, get to see Ali early so we could take a long dinner of Chicken Bhoona, Chicken Madras (then I switched to Fish Madras which is crazy delish), Chicken Dhansak and of course Butter Chicken and/or Korma. Those crispy onions as a garnish on all the dishes cause me to want to book a flight back to Canada immediately! Anyone who knows anything about Indian food and restaurants will know what an absolute treasure Ali has created. He uses the best meats, grass fed and no hormones and local and pesticide free vegetables whenever possible. This kind of quality is unheard of. I live in Los Angeles where there is nothing that even begins to rate to these freshly crafted dishes. Fresh, as in, they aren't sitting in a pot all day until they all become that dark, heavy brown color. If anyone reading this is flying privately back to LA from Kingston, please consider bringing me back something!! Oh, and Dana D. who says it's over rated, you don't know how good you have it sister! Great service and very good food. Our order of garlic chicken, chicken tikka masala, paneer jalfrezzi and paneer saag came promptly and taste was great. I especially liked their tandoori roti which were of great taste. We finished with a kulfi was creamy and low on the sweet just the way we like. Place is generally good and not very hectic. They did not ask for spice level and the dishes were mild which my kids appreciated. Portions are small and side of rice is not served with entrees. If you like your entrees to be spicy, make sure you asked for it. We will visit again whenever in the area. read more

Disgrace to Indian Cusine. I have not tasted worse Indian food anywhere else in Canada. The location is awesome but the service and food is disappointing. The party room here is dark and lacks appeal. The main dining room is better. Don't order the biryani... Its a joke... yellow rice and boiled tasteless lamb is what I got. Sadly I saw a lot of Caucasians in the restaurant, unfortunately they are getting cheated with the food for the money they are paying. The quality and quantity is very low for the price being charged. Service is lethargic.. with not even a smile on the face. Naan was serveed on a small dish and the Naan touched the table on all sides... this is not hygienic. Use a basket for the Naan and a not a small plate, learn to serve food. Vindaloo was a mess... I have eaten Vindaloo all my life and have never seen it been made so spicy and wrong in my life... it has no taste except the taste of red chilly powder...you could distinctly taste the red chilly powder...when we informed the server, he said that's the way our cook makes it and he will not change it... I would suggest that the cook and owner go to India and first learn the Original Cusine properly before running a restaurant called Curry Original. The only thing original about this food is that it is no where close to Indian food. If they can't go to India then go taste food at the Host, Bombay Bhel (Erin Mills) and Chauhan in Toronto. This place is awful!! Their food is overpriced for the quality and the Naan was cold and dry. The butter chicken is absolutely terrible.

The entire experience was bad. The bathrooms were dirty, the restaurant was cold and the staff were unapologetic about providing the wrong dish. Ordered butter chicken- received chicken korma. Spoke to the staff about the mistake they insisted it was butter chicken ( I was not in the mood to argue) I knew it was chicken korma because it tasted exactly like the PC version chicken korma, which made me think it was right out of a jar and not restaurant made. By the way not even a full chicken breast within the dish, price was was much to high for what was received. Madras shrimp - delicious but 6 shrimp for $15.95.... Please .... Zero value. Naan was hot & fresh, aloo gobi was old and dry and the onion bahji was burnt on the outside raw on the inside and lacked flavour. The beer was cold and the waitress who took away are plates was really nice. Overall I won't be going back nor would I ever recommend. read more
