When arrived I was surprised of the size of the restaurant. Thought it would be bigger. From the outside, it looks like a grab and go, not dine-in restaurant. As you walk in, there are a few tables where you can dine-in. First time visiting the restaurant because I've heard and reviewed such great things about it. Customer service was great with helping us decided what to order. Was also our first time having Indian food. The guy suggested their Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Kashmiri, and one other item. I ordered the butter chicken, appetizer plate with white rice and garlic naan. Everything was super delicious and filling. I had ordered so much there was plenty of leftovers. With each entree they ask for your spicy level. I ordered a level 7 and my friend order a level 5. The 7 had a medium hint of spicy but definitely you felt the spicy! My nose was running just from the spicy and that I was so hungry haha! Have been wanting to try CurryGate for the longest time and finally got takeout for dinner last night. I'm going to have to agree with previous yelp reviewers in that the food is plentiful and fantastic. Ordered through their website which was super easy. I did get a kick out of hoa orders under $60 is a 50min preparation time and over $60 was 60 or more minutes. But seeing how I don't know the ins and outs of Nepalese/Indian cuisine I'll happily abide by their instructions. The order was ready when I went in and had my 1 minute interaction with the host. "Host" is loosely used near because inside dining is closed for the moment. There was one other people inside waiting for their order- all of us were wearing masks. I'm not sure what used to be in this space... maybe like a drive-in place or convenience store, but the parking lot is uniquely configured but easy to get in and out of since it's on the corner with a traffic signal. Food was delicious. Tried the chicken tikka masala and chicken palek. Ordered with garlic naan and pakora. So good! I think the pakora suffered from travel in the Togo container, but nothing that a quick spritz in the airfryer didn't fix. Overall, such a good experience. Will definitely have to try their other menu items. The other thing to mention was their spice scale is 1-10.... we had the tikka masala at a 7 and the palaek at a 3. I had seen loads of hype about Curry Gate on my social media so I had to make a stop. I placed an order for the Momo Dumplings and the Shanghai Fried Rice with Chicken. We are the Momo in the car! It didn't even make it inside the house. The fried rice was a huge portion. We were able to share it with the kiddos also. I love how they have spring onions and fresh red onions on top of the fried rice. The flavors were delicious. I throughly enjoyed everything. We didn't eat the sauce with the Momo but it's a spicy peppery sauce. We did throw a little on top of the rice. Added some nice heat. Please don't let the outside appearance stop you. After seeing and hearing rave reviews for months, I hate to say I was a bit underwhelmed by Curry Gate. While I liked the Chicken Momo and Garlic Naan, the Butter Chicken at the lowest spice ("Level 1") was near-inedible spicy while also devoid of any other flavor. Also the dish was mostly sauce with hardly any chicken and unfortunately the small side of rice provided was hardly enough to get it all down. Ended up tossing out most of the dish. Overall I'm not gonna rush back here but maybe would give them another try, with a different order. read more

Could I give this place 10 stars??? I would on any day hands down. I bet this place is the best Indian restaurant in Charlotte, outranking Blue Taj which is at best a fusion/hybrid not entirely authentic Indian cuisine. Everything about Curry Gate is wonderful. As soon as you enter, you're greeted by irresistible delicious aroma of Indian spices. Above and behind the counter are colorful mouthwatering pictures of their dishes. It's their model to serve the food in to go styrofoam boxes since seating is limited. Service was absolutely friendly and hospitable ( offered us bottled water otherwise you'd have to pay for just because it was so hot outside). We ordered garlic naan, veggie korma, veggie momo, tikka masala chicken. I realize not a lot of Charlotteans have heard or been to Curry Gate. You should! I vouch for it. When Tonya P. says she's found her new go to Indian place, it immediately jumps to the top of my list of places to try. Covid-19: you can order and pay online. They're also offering a free mango lassi for all online orders over $25 (you get one for checking in on Yelp as well). Our order: vegetable momo, paneer korma, and paneer methi matter (I think this is the same thing as mutter paneer I've had elsewhere?). I've never had Nepalese food before and was incredibly impressed by the vegetable momo. The seasoning inside was fantastic. Both of our curry dishes were delicious. I had a slight preference for the korma. The portions were huge. We had leftovers. You get to pick a slice level from 1-7. We went with 7 and it was no joke. We decided to give Curry Gate a try while in Charlotte after seeing all of the positive reviews & I am so glad we did - the food was fantastic! Located in a small unassuming building with a parking lot out front, Curry Gate is a counter service restaurant. Thankfully they weren't too busy for dine in so we were able to snag one of the five booths after we ordered. Within ten minutes our food was brought out to the table. Currently they only package food to go so it was brought out in to go containers & we were given paper plates and utensils to eat. Ultimately this came in handy because even after splitting the food we still had leftovers to take home. This time we had butter chicken, which was spiced to our liking (a 7 on a 1-10 spice scale). Then an order of garlic naan which complemented the butter chicken perfectly. On top of great food the girl who took our order was very kind & made sure we were enjoying our meal. Although Curry Gate looks like a hole in the wall on the outside, it will fill the the empty void in your life with delicious Indian food. Of the things you should order here, there is one that I find particularly unique and worthy of trying--the Vegetable Momo. It is a steamed, filled dumpling that is similar to a gyoza. And of course, you can never go wrong with garlic naan. My wife and I tried their Paneer Methi Matter and Paneer Korma. What a delicious experience. Curry Gate is officially my new favorite Gem in Charlotte. Located across from Camp North End you will find Curry Gate. At first, I wasn't sure if I was in the right spot. I thought my GPS took me to one of those arcade establishments. This family run restaurant serves Indian Nepalese cuisine. Customers can enjoy staples such as curries, samosas & grilled meats. I am no stranger to Indian cuisine of course. I was VERY excited to order takeout from here. We were headed to another restaurant in north, and were running too late - that's when I checked yelp yo suggest some Indian restaurants where we can get good food but are not limited by the last food call time of 2:30PM..Curry Gate was the first suggestion. It's not your fancy restaurant but food is what we cared for. We chose to dine in - which also was served in to-go boxes, and the guy upfront clarified it. Liked that part a lot! While placing order, we asked the server what's good, their specialities etc. We ordered tandoori chicken, veg momos and chaat for the appetizers - both were good. Chat was quite spicy / hot - so go easy on the heat level. Chicken was tender and juicy. Very flavorful. Veg momos were okay - we've had better ones. For main course we ordered matar-paneer and chicken curry. I loved both the curries. Chicken was really delicious, very tender nice juicy chicken and potatoes in the chicken were so flavorful too. I ordered aloo kulcha - it was good, but I might not order it again. My mother in law got chili naan - it was tasty but not too hot. Mango lassi was good too. We also ordered gulab jamun for dessert - and it was by far the BEST home made gulab jamun in Charlotte area. Not your frozen ones.. but fresh home made jamun and it was too good - I might actually go back for that only!! I now understand why this place has 200+ five star reviews. SHEESH! This place is amazing! Had a craving for Indian food and wanted to try something new and this place had been on the list. I don't know if I'll need to explore new places anymore because this might be the one! Let me tell you, we feasted! We basically want to try everything on the menu, so we took our first try. I got the saag with chicken and it was so flavorful, but I got 2 level spice and want a little more kick next time. The butter chicken was delicious, too. We tried the Indian nachos because they were out of the sampler and they were very unique and a flavor I had not tired before. The more I ate, the more I enjoyed. The Nepalese dumplings were good, but I will try them with meat vs veggie next time because they were pretty mushy. Garlic naan was on point and so was the fried rice dish. My recommendation is that you don't sleep on the yogurt dressing that comes with it because it was just the right flavor add to mellow the heavy spice in the rice. I was curious how a place like Curry Gate gets 5 star reviews. Then I noticed all the 5 star reviews are from people who consider Indian food "exotic" and think there is only one kind of "curry powder." My experience at Curry Gate has always been disappointing and unexciting. The curries are gloppy messes, the chicken is overcooked, lamb dishes have mostly bones, and I even got partially frozen ras malai once. Folks, this is not true, fresh Indian food. Botiwalla at Optimist Hall is better. Some smaller restaurants that center to students in the university area serve more authentic biryanis and curries. read more

I ordered delivery from here tonight through Uber Eats. For two people, I ordered the Nepalese style curry with chicken (spicy level ten), vegetable Momo (spicy level ten), an order of garlic naan and an order of chili garlic naan. The amount of food I ordered was plenty to feed two hungry adults. The quantity for price is fair. I'm glad I didn't order another curry dish, as it would have just been leftovers. For the food itself, I'll say this was easily the best Indian food I've had in Charlotte, and I've tried them all. The chicken in the curry was moist and flavorful instead of being dry and tasteless. The curry itself was thick and with visible components you could taste instead of being a watery, uniform puree. The Momo was pleasantly soft, with a fun crunchy part around the edge. The naan was soft, warm and fragrant. I will say that the chili garlic naan is just the garlic naan with a bit of diced chili thrown in, so not worth the extra cost in my opinion. The curry also came with enough rice for two, so no need to order extra rice. A note on the spicy level: level ten is quite spicy, so don't order unless you're sure you like very spicy food. I tasted what I believe was fresh habanero in the curry. You get what you order here, so maybe order or have yogurt on the side to cool you down! I came here with a group of friends and my food was great! Everything so flavorful and HOT! I got the chicken vindaloo at a level 7 spice. I love spicy and this was the perfect amount of spice for me. I also got soup level 4 and that was good also. You get a lot of food I left filled and satisfied. There is seating inside but don't expect like formal dining. It's about 5 tables first come first serve situation and they were pretty busy when I went.
