Stay away from this place. I would give zero stars if I could. Food was average, but the tiny portions were ridiculous (3 bite-sized pieces of meat per dish--you're basically paying for sauce), which I reckon they feel they can justify under the veneer of a somewhat "fancier" restaurant, even though the service was horrendous.
Despite such tiny amounts, this all took a good 40 minutes to arrive when we (a group of three) were the only people in the restaurant (!). Ironically, when I asked the waiter how large each portion might be while ordering, he sneered at me, as if it were a ridiculous question. Then I realized why he doesn't like people asking.
The service, again, was also absolutely horrendous. I honestly don't expect much, and prefer no-nonsense service if the food is good. Yet even basic common sense and decency were lacking here. Not once did the staff refill our water or ask us if we needed anything, nor could we even signal to them that we did (like for a spare napkin, a drink menu, or the cheque... all pretty basic needs), because they wouldn't even turn to look at us. We had to awkwardly yell out to them every single time. Again, they were standing around with literally no other customers, and hours away from closing time still (I know because I asked them what time they close).
They were totally stone-faced and unfriendly (one waiter looked constantly bewildered every time I spoke to him)--which initially I thought, "fair enough, I prefer no frills' service anyways and maybe that's just their style." Then came the plot twist: a solitary, white English man walked in and the entire service staff shifted moods--they were suddenly bright and smiling, and giving him hugs (!), chatting away to the point of literally facing *him* while they serviced our table. (Because of their fixation on this one English man who had just one drink on his table, we also waited another fifteen unnecessary minutes for our cheque).
This completely slavish, cringe-worthy display was the exact opposite of what was shown my friends and I (I gather because we aren't middle-aged English men) and was laughable, if not extremely sad. I didn't expect to see such servile, lapdog behaviour in 2019--even worse when it comes from other people of colour--but I presume these gentlemen are happily still boot-licking their former colonizers.
Unless you're a middle-aged English man in a suit, you'll likely be treated similarly. You'll see a common theme in other reviews--the staff here are complete a*sholes with no self-respect. With the abundance of fantastic Indian and South Asian cuisine in London, you really do not need to waste your time with these pretentious tossers. read more
