Not sure what happened, but the food is absolute garbage at this point and they literally halved the portions for more money. I understand inflation but this is absurd. The chana masala is basically a gravy now that looks unappetizing and sad. The naan bread is undercooked to the point where I'd say it's basically raw and, hell, even the frozen naan bread from Trader Joe's is better at this point. The rice is super bland as well and they even managed to downgrade white basmati rice somehow. The naan bread was also in weird shapes instead of a more round shape like proper naan. Overall whoever cooked this food should be fired and this place needs to go out of business if they are going to continue serving food like this at these prices. read more

I thought I would try this location since I am familiar with the other location off of the Nordhal. They have recently taken this one over and have made a lot of improvements from what it was before. The lunch buffet is what usually gets me through the door, and I'm happy to say that the buffet here is just as delicious as the original location. Very clean and well kept! Service was pretty good, looked to be only one guy covering the place but there wasn't many others ordering. Mostly people eating the buffet. I got chicken Tikka masala with garlic naan and it was very good. It came out very hot so it took a while before I could actually eat, but that was the only issue. Been on a bit of an Indian buffet kick lately, and this spot was just okay. I'd call it mid overall. The curries tasted a little watered down--not bad, just not super flavorful. I did appreciate that they had a salad. Price is $16.99 per person, and they charge an extra $1 for garlic naan (which feels a little unnecessary at a buffet). The place is clean, and the staff were friendly enough. It'll do in a pinch if you're in San Marcos and want a decent variety of Indian food, but probably not somewhere I'd go out of my way to return to. read more

Food was really good, but the keema samosa was wayy too salty I could eat it. I got the vegetable korma which was great, but mild was not quite as flavorful and I think I'd get mild+ next time. The lamb tikka masala (mild+) was also really good and again could probably go up a little on the spice level next time. The garlic naan was really good, though they make it pretty thin, but you get four slices. I ordered a side of rice and got two huge containers! We've been here a few times before but sadly left disappointed after our most recent visit. We did the Friday evening buffet and despite arriving about the middle of service (6pm) found the buffet to be not super busy and this not super fresh. While the naan was served table side and thus fresh and delicious, everything on the buffet line seemed old or was scraping the bottom of the pan. In particular there were a few items that were empty that I had hoped would be replaced while we were there that remained empty throughout. They advertise drinks for .99 with buffet and have a fountain but I was served a can and charged 1.29. We might try the other location but after this experience are unlikely to return to this location. read more

Had not been there in quite some time, and we did the lunch buffet. Overall, decent but the temperature of things like the rice or hot apps is definitely lukewarm at best. Some hits, some misses. Chicken tikka masala was tasty but the meat itself was dry. Spice level was mild, all purpose. Goat curry was really flavorful but the meat was sur par quality with more gristle than actually meat. The chicken curry was good. Dark meat, juicy, well seasoned. The tandoori chicken, one piece was good, one piece was dry... it is hard to dry up a thigh, but it was... The eggplant dish was awesome. My family have been going to curry craft in San Marcos since they opened and supported them all through Covid until now. We have always had good food in there until today. The curries I got tonight were bland and seemed to be watered down. Not sure after today if I will continue to support this business or not. I found out about Curry Craft months ago, and we just never had the opportunity to try them- that is up until a few weeks ago. Today, June 7th, 2025, was our 3rd visit. I absolutely LOVE Indian food and have taught myself how to make chicken tikka masala ... but let me tell you its a labor of love! So when we took the leap and visited Curry Craft, I was SO happy that I can just jump in the car and go to an Indian buffet whenever I have a craving... and not just any Indian buffet, but an amazing one! The workers here are SO welcoming and nice, and wonderfully attentive. After being seated, we ran over to the buffet line where you can find an array of popular Indian dishes. Samosas, chicken tikka masala, lamb curry, tandoori chicken, channa masala, saag paneer...the list goes on and EVERY single item was delicious. There is also a salad bar too! Now for dessert, they have rice kheer! and it's some of the best kheer I've had. We also ordered the mango lassi, and I think that speaks for itself haha so good! If your near San Marcos or out for a shopping day in the area... stop by Curry Craft near San Marcos High School! They have lunch buffet everyday until 3pm, and dinner buffet Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You will not be disappointed! read more

I ordered takeout last night and the food was great. The portions were a good size especially for the noodles. I ended up only eating a small portion of all the food and saved the rest for the next day. But it was more than enough for one person better yet two people. Great packaging as well, no leaks due to how well they packaged the food. I ordered vegetable pakora, vegetable samosa and veg noodles. Tip: the gps led me to the Shogun restaurant in the same parking lot. However Curry Craft is near Starbucks. If you're coming off San Marcos Blvd, you can see Curry Craft from the street. But if you're traveling on Rancho Santa Fe, it may be hard to spot. read more

My wife said her colleagues had raved about Curry Craft, so when my buddy that lives near Lake San Marcos wanted to meet for lunch, I thought of this spot. It's a family-owned place that's got a lackluster ambiance. There's two sides of the dining room and the day we went, they only had one side open. It was odd because every table was taken up. It would have been nice to not have to sit next to so many people if the other side was open. The waiter brought us a menu but basically implied that we were getting the lunch buffet. I thought it was kinda odd, but in the end, it's the way to go. The food is hot, ready, and there's no waiting. It featured all the usual suspects: tikka masala, curries, veggie, lamb, chicken, eggplant, a selection of rice, etc. They had a choice of naan, and a couple of puff pastry side bites. Prices are high. Every time I go in there the buffet is closed. Small portions are on other people's plates so I decided to leave. There's nothing like the aroma of Indian food. You walk into the restaurant and it just hits you. It's wonderful and, cliche alert, exotic. Overall, this place serves very good Indian food. It's very flavorful and you get a lot of it (we ordered takeout). I'm downgrading them a little because there was too much gristle in the chicken dishes. That's an easy fix for a careful cook but it's really annoying for the consumer. We tried the lamb vindaloo, which was excellent, the butter chicken (always a winner), and kadai chicken (with bell peppers and onions). Everything was very good. Make sure you let them know if you want the dish spicy or not. Indian food can be very spicy but they can make it without any heat whatsoever, if that is your preference. Make sure you get an order (or two) of the garlic naan bread and definitely try one of their samosas (we got the chicken one). It's excellent. A near miss for 5 stars but we will happily return. If you get takeout, your car will smell wonderful for a week, guaranteed. read more

Stopped by today for lunch and found out they had weekday lunch buffet $16.99. It had vegetable pakora, tandoori chicken, different curries (chickpea, tikka masala, paneer, goat) and Jassi was awesome and was the server handling the whole restaurant. Was searching online for an Indian dinner buffet and this was one of the only places that came up, other than a vegetarian one on Miramar road. So I decided to drive up to San Marcos and try it out and am so glad I did! I've had many, many Indian buffets over the years. So many I can't even count them but probably 40 or more different buffets and this ranks in the top five for sure. The food was delicious and fresh and you could tell they used good quality ingredients like cream, butter etc. Loved the chicken tikka masala and the Shahi paneer curry (cubes of cheese similar to tofu) were spot on authentic tasting to me, not watered down or tough chicken like in other places, and the cashew sauce was to die for. The food was so good, I asked if they considered opening another location closer to downtown, perhaps Hillcrest or North Park or Pacific Beach could use another great Indian restaurant, especially one that offers a dinner buffet certain nights of the week. I believe it's only Thursday through Sunday so check first before going but make sure to try this place, you'll be thanking me! The only very minor comment I would have if any was they could use a couple more items, perhaps one more dessert and another rice dish or fried appetizer. Otherwise it was amazing. read more

The lunch buffet is the best lunch deal in all of San Marcos, easily. This place used to be not so great and kind of expensive for food that was mediocre at best. They've really cleaned up their act with this fantastic buffet offering. They have samosas, your choice of fresh naan, and vegetarian curries, goat curry, butter chicken, Indian lentils, and more! Even though it is a self service buffet the staff is still very attentive and will place a chilled carafe of fresh water on the table, which is very welcome. They are usually playing some kind of south asian media on the TV which I find to be interesting and pertinent to the environment. The restaurant and buffet line is clean and remains as such throughout your meal as the staff is constantly tidying. The food here is actually very high quality for the price. Tons of flavor. I love the fresh goat curry and the fried samosas. The garlic naan is excellent and perfect to scoop up your curry. Good rice is offered as well. I keep coming back here because the price and the quality of the food is pretty unmatched. If you're looking for a fantastic, filling and tasty lunch deal you cannot beat Curry Craft. If you come in at 11:30 you will beat the crowd and the food will be freshest. I know that buffets can have negative connotations and I am not immune to that perception, but I can guarantee you if you give this place a try you will get the most bang for your buck, and leave very satisfied.
