This is a little place with a big taste! The dining is casual so don't expect fancy...but expect good food at a great price with excellent service. We got meat combos with rotisserie chicken, pulled brisket, and ribs, burnt ends. Everything was tender, juicy and amazing. The Mac and cheese was divine. One of the best BBQ places I've ever been to. So glad my friends and I got to experience this spot. We stopped by and placed a family meal of an order. We got everything from the pulled beef brisket, brisket burnet ends, rotisserie chicken, meat combos (1 of each of the 3), and some ribs. Now what sets this place apart is not only is the BBQ amazing the sides and sauces set the bar. Get the mac n cheese, baked beans, potato sales, hush puppies, and sweet potato casserole. The hush puppies had to be everyones favorite. Something about the crunchy exterior and warm cornbread had us all raving. The sauces here are no joke. Get all of them to sample. I personally like the South Carolina BBQ sauces. Something about the strong mustard and vinegar flavor made it delish. Honestly if we didn't have to drive 4 hours home we'd probably order more to go. The location is spotless and the staff has Covid conditions in place with social distancing. They also feature an open bench area outside for seating as well. I came here on a Saturday during the coronavirus pandemic. Because of this, they were only accepting takeout. All the chairs were stacked on top of tables. There was a sign at the door insisting customers to wash their hands. I did so, and proceeded to the counter to order. The lady was very sweet and friendly while she welcomed me to the restaurant. I ordered a bbq sandwich and a side macaroni and cheese. Now I am no stranger to Currituck BBQ Co. It's just been several years since I've been. I graduated high school from here. I paid for my order and ate inside my car. It was a gorgeous day. The bbq was delicious. Even more so with the coleslaw inside. The Mac and cheese was delicious... oozed with cheese! We bought carryout one time from Currituck BBQ and decided to try it for lunch so we could have it fresh and hot. Food was OK, but for us it would not be worth the drive again from KDH. High Cotton, TL's, Carolina Barbecue and Martelle's all serve better pork. The pork is a very fine chop with almost no vinegar sauce and just did not have that great ENC pork flavor. It was clean but very mild. The brisket is chop/shredded like the pork, which was a surprise. I did not do my homework and wished I had ordered Burnt Ends instead, but they always disappoint me by being dry and chewy. I would not order brisket again, it was just stringy roast beef with some sauce. The ribs are the style we find typically in NC, which means not very good. They had very little smoke, and were overdone to caulking-gun ready mush and covered with sauce to hide the fact that they are not smoked. They are probably done in an oven or electric cooker. I kicked myself for not asking them to leave off the sauce. They were better than Sooey's and on a par with High Cotton. I just keep trying ribs around here and I keep being disappointed. Once again, eat brisket in Texas, ribs in Memphis and chopped pork in Eastern North Carolina. It is a lesson I learn over and over. I would describe them as "good food, just not good ribs". Ms T had pulled chicken on a sandwich and it was wet so as to turn the bun into complete goo. They served great slaw however. If I stopped here it would only be for slaw and pork BBQ, which is of course what one should eat in ENC anyway. If you are on the road to or from Norfolk, this is much better pork than BJ's. I am ignoring the brisket and ribs and find the pork to be a solid three stars. If I lived here I would be happy enough to eat a sandwich with slaw regularly. read more

Stopped by randomly in 2006 with some friends and was passing through again, so I thought I should come back. It was just ok. I got the combo platter with brisket and pulled pork. The brisket was just kind of whatever, and the baked beans seemed very standard and generic and didn't taste much different from canned. The default bbq sauce was good (not sure which one they gave me when I asked, they gave me two of the same, though in my heart i wanted to try all the different ones). The pulled pork was good. The cole slaw seemed to lack any sort of tang or bite to it and did not enhance the experience at all. The hush puppies were good, and while not the best I've had, the mac and cheese was surprisingly (based on how it looked) the best part of the meal. The restaurant was very "old timey" and country, which was one of my favorite parts. The menu was packed me country meals: gizzards, pulled pork, brisket, BBQ chicken, mac n cheese, sweet potatoes, green beans, and MUCH MORE. We went to this restaurant while visiting the Outer Banks and were pleasantly surprised! The food was very good, I had the pulled Chicken sandwich and my husband had the pulled pork. Both were very good. I tried the sweet potato casserole because of everyone rating it so highly and it was great but think Thanksgiving and candied yams, lots of sugar. My husband had the mac n cheese and thought it was very runny and lacked taste. We stopped by 2 days later to get some of the dessert that people raved about and I would pass on the bread pudding, not good.
