Yummm! My husband loves his BBQ. Currituck did not disappoint. Pulled pork was cooked to perfection. Pulled chicken was tasty too. We enjoyed the food as a platter for lunch and had plenty left over for dinner later on in the day. Macaroni and cheese was creamy, beans were tasty and fries were great. The Hushpuppies are legend. We bought carryout one time from Currituck BBQ and decided to try it for lunch so we could have it fresh and hot. Food was OK, but for us it would not be worth the drive again from KDH. High Cotton, TL's, Carolina Barbecue and Martelle's all serve better pork. The pork is a very fine chop with almost no vinegar sauce and just did not have that great ENC pork flavor. It was clean but very mild. The brisket is chop/shredded like the pork, which was a surprise. I did not do my homework and wished I had ordered Burnt Ends instead, but they always disappoint me by being dry and chewy. I would not order brisket again, it was just stringy roast beef with some sauce. The ribs are the style we find typically in NC, which means not very good. They had very little smoke, and were overdone to caulking-gun ready mush and covered with sauce to hide the fact that they are not smoked. They are probably done in an oven or electric cooker. I kicked myself for not asking them to leave off the sauce. They were better than Sooey's and on a par with High Cotton. I just keep trying ribs around here and I keep being disappointed. Once again, eat brisket in Texas, ribs in Memphis and chopped pork in Eastern North Carolina. It is a lesson I learn over and over. I would describe them as "good food, just not good ribs". Ms T had pulled chicken on a sandwich and it was wet so as to turn the bun into complete goo. They served great slaw however. If I stopped here it would only be for slaw and pork BBQ, which is of course what one should eat in ENC anyway. If you are on the road to or from Norfolk, this is much better pork than BJ's. I am ignoring the brisket and ribs and find the pork to be a solid three stars. If I lived here I would be happy enough to eat a sandwich with slaw regularly. read more

Stopped by randomly in 2006 with some friends and was passing through again, so I thought I should come back. It was just ok. I got the combo platter with brisket and pulled pork. The brisket was just kind of whatever, and the baked beans seemed very standard and generic and didn't taste much different from canned. The default bbq sauce was good (not sure which one they gave me when I asked, they gave me two of the same, though in my heart i wanted to try all the different ones). The pulled pork was good. The cole slaw seemed to lack any sort of tang or bite to it and did not enhance the experience at all. The hush puppies were good, and while not the best I've had, the mac and cheese was surprisingly (based on how it looked) the best part of the meal. Currituck BBQ Company was really great! A couple of colleagues and I decided to stop here, while traveling for work. The restaurant was very "old timey" and country, which was one of my favorite parts. The menu was packed me country meals: gizzards, pulled pork, brisket, BBQ chicken, mac n cheese, sweet potatoes, green beans, and MUCH MORE. There was so much to choose from off of the menu and the service was great! It was about eight of us and the cashier was so kind. The service is seat your self and our food was ready so fast! The food was great! I got a Brisket sandwich with fries and mac n cheese. It was perfect!! The brisket was seasoned perfectly and was nice a tender. The mac n cheese was PERFECT! The grass was tall and tables not in great shape but overall a good experience with good food. After a day of offShore fishing from the Oregon Inlet we stopped to dine here on our way north. The employees were friendly. The meat is tender, the sauce is perfect, and the sides are incredible. (The sweet potato casserole is a food group until it's self. But please leave me a portion if you go! Myself and a buddy were on the way back home from OBX and hit this spot because of the glowing reviews and overall rating. Both BIG foodies, and lovers of barbecue and backyard smoking novices. We were thoroughly excited to experience some authentic NC BBQ; and our expectations were further heightened by the sight of a large line and almost full seating arrangement. I ordered brisket and chicken with Mac and cheese and fries; my buddy order brisket and pork with the same sides. I was a little surprised to have received shredded brisket instead of sliced brisket. The brisket was danced in sauce after being shredded; overall, not bad. But no bark to taste their rub, not much smoke, decent beef flavor. The chicken, I mostly just tasted the sauce although it was tender but again under seasoned. I tried by buddy's pork, and it wasn't pretty to look at. A grey, mush like, mass of zero to little flavor or texture. The pork was the biggest let down by far, although it was not sauced, I feel like they're relying too much on the sauce to be a saving grace. The Mac n cheese was average at best, the fries were nothing special. The hush puppies and cheesecake were the only food ordered that met expectations of what a local NC BBQ shack should be serving. If your looking for fancy, this isn't it, but if your looking for great food and nice people this is the place to be. My 7 year old is always tough when we go to BBQ but she finished her pulled pork sandwich in a flash and asked for more. I tried the beef brisket sandwich and was floored. Great eastern NC bbq! I make a point to stop here on my way to/from the outer banks every year, and it never disappoints. Pulled chicken and pulled pork are great, and I love the slightly spicy vinegar-based eastern NC sauce on the pork. Sides are also decent, especially the mashed sweet potatoes and coleslaw. They also have very good hush puppies. Parking is plentiful and they have both inside and outside, covered seating. Prices are extremely reasonable, even for bulk items and family sized meals. Our family stopped on the way to Duck, NC. We were looking for Carolina bbq and we found it! I had the pulled pork sandwich with two sides- Mac and cheese was ok and green beans were good. Kids had grilled cheese and chicken "chunks". The chunks were pieces of chicken cooked like fried chicken. Really good. Prices were great- adult platter was 7 and Kids items were under 5. The food here is nothing special unless you like grease and more grease. I have been here twice now. The second visit was because a friend wanted to try it against my advice. When we arrived there was a fairly long line. A busload of cheerleaders from a local high school was dining here. A woman in front of us had placed an order on the phone so she wouldn't have to wait and went to the front to see if her order was ready as she was told it would be. They sent her to the back of the line and told her she would have to wait her turn. What? What is the point of ordering on the phone if you are going to have to wait for walk-ins? We offered to let her get in front of us again, but she didn't want to. She was disappointed and angry as were we by the sheer disrespect and thoughtlessness displayed toward her. The building sits on a dirt and partial gravel lot. The outside is outdated to match the inside. The tables have not been cleaned both times I have visited. The trash cans inside were overflowing so I had to leave my styrofoam container on top of the trash bin with a tray holder so that my leftovers would not spill out on the floor. The bathroom may have been the cleanest place in the building. Perhaps they would do well to put tables in there. Not. On this visit, I had the pulled pork. I swear they bought out all the Brookwood Farms Carolina Style BBQ from the nearest Food Lion. The fries weren't bad at all and hot to boot. My friend had the burnt ends were good until about halfway through when the saltiness and grease starts weighing you down. The desire to finish the meal is about a zero on a 1-10 scale. Canned sides anyone? Stick with the fries. Two stars for the young man taking orders. He deserves five stars. He was pleasant and very likable. He got the order right and had a happy demeanor. I believe I overheard someone say he was the owner's son? He's the only reason this restaurant gets any stars. I love mom and pop places. I just hope they will take the good reviews and the bad reviews and continue doing what's right and correct what's wrong. read more
