The owners have converted an old bank into a cafe, and the concept looks good. High ceilings, glass frontage, indoor/outdoor - you get the idea.
The Eastern Shore is a lot less well served for cafes than Hobart, so opening a new cafe in Linidisfarne as an alternative to the Aproneers can only be a good thing. You would think.
The Aproneers was (as per procedure for Sunday morning) full to bursting with a queue waiting. So Currency's moment had come.
We arrived and stood at the doorway waiting to be seated. The waitress noticed us but had more important things to be getting on with - folding and stacking something - I think cutlery & napkins. After a couple of minutes when it was clear we weren't going, she came over and showed us to a table. It was 1125am
As we asked for menus she said "Just to let you know, the kitchen doesnt take breakfast orders after 1130".
"OK maybe we should look at the lunch menu?"
"The kitchen isn't open for lunch until 12:00"
"OK we'll be quick to make up our minds"
Within a minute made our choices, and then waited and waited for her to come back.
Of course then it was after 1130 and so she would 'have to see" if the kitchen could accept the order. Off she went and failed to return, so we just left.
So here we have a cafe where you cant order *any* kind of cooked food between 1130 and 1200 on a weekend, and where the wait-staff deliberately dawdle when that cut off time is approaching.
Anyone would think they are providing a government service as opposed to running a business.
