I could spend hours AND all my money in this shop, easy. I love the layout of this store. It's not cookie-cutter straight, with perfectly straight rows of racks and shelves...booooooring. Things are stacked. Sideways. Diagonal. On the walls, on the ceiling, on top of each other. It's like a little maze of magic. Odds and ends you wouldn't even know where to find elsewhere. It reminds me of a shop you might see in Diagon Alley. I'm in LOVE with the white ceramic owls they have for sale ($22) and the various Buddha statues ranging from tiny to big. I live less than 50ft. from this store and I'm ashamed that I've never written a review for them before! I literally have not shopped for gifts (for any occasion) anywhere else in years. Today was a 'thank you' gift, last week was a birthday gift, and so on..... The assortment is amazing! Handmade furniture (small items as well), cards for every occasion, candles, jewelry, clothing, glassware, etc, And here's my favorite part.......they always gift wrap for free (time-permitting, but it hasn't failed me yet)! I go in, it takes me 10 minutes to pick out a few cute items, they wrap them up, and I'm on my way. The wrapping is very unique with a beach feel, it definitely stands out. This was my first trip to curious. I have been looking forward to visiting it for awhile. It definitely did not disappoint! This store has everything!!!! One of a kind furniture, jewelry, home accessories, cards and many gift items!!! This place is a gem. And on top of the great selection- the people who work here are just as great!!' We were greeted warmly as we walked in. We encountered a few different employees while inside- and everyone said hello and asked if they could help. We had our 2 yr old with us and, believe me, there are many stores that just prefer you don't bring in your kids. We get "the look" and are often avoided like the plague. Cannot say enough GREAT things about this cute, little beachy shop. They have such great decor and jewelry, especially if you're looking for something trendy or beachy. A few of the items are a little pricey but overall, I'm pleased with the price point on most things, especially the jewelry. I have come to this shop when it used to encompass both its current location as well as the shop right next door. This place ALWAYS has the most unique and thoughtful items! Bryce, the owner is very friendly, and also creates most of the unique vintage style furnishings available in the shop. There is something for everyone here, our last visit, I purchased a tiny wind up toy for my daughter, as well as some beautiful earrings for myself. We all got a kick browsing the book section (everything from finger puppet books for the little ones, all the way to the naughty fun books for adults). Very interesting place. Lots of items here you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. I came here for something pretty standard: a wedding card. I was in the area and couldn't find another stationary store. Curious did not disappoint! Although if you don't have a targeted search, you can get lost here -- there is so much going on. Reminds me of a quirkier Kitson. Things here are priced at a premium too. Some of my favorites here are the bar soaps that are labeled. I also like the "grow a pair" in a jar. Walked in here with a friend who lives in HB after a run. I had to get my niece and nephew (twins) bday gifts. They are turning 7. I found two cute children's books for them and also got a card and magnet for my sister-in-law who is turning 40 in April. The store associates were friendly and the one guy (didn't get his name) was friendly and an amazing gift wrapper. The gift wrapping is free and you can get a stamp with happy birthday and the letter of the person's name stamped on the brown wrapping. They have a lot of stuff for the home as well as jewelry, soap, cards, and unique finds. It makes getting a gift seem that much more creative rather than going to a mainstream corporate store. read more

This is my new favorite gift shop! I love this place! You walk in and the friendly staff greets you, and offers you a drink. How many places are offering you drinks while you shop? None. They have a really great selection of gifts including some pretty hilarious and perverted gifts...this is my type of gift shop! They have greeting cards, jewelry, books, everything. One of my favorite things was the furniture they are displaying their merchandise on. They have some gorgeous, rustic pieces in there and my hubby and I are totally coming back to check them out when the store is less crowded. We went on small business saturday, so it was a zoo in there. They also offer holiday photos here. It was so cute to see kids walking around with their props for the holiday card. I have ordered a few times from Curious since March. They have absolutely the best customer service in all of the Southbay. They also have the most unique and fun things in their store - from adults to kids. First time I ordered during lockdown, the shop was closed but they were doing store shopping via Instagram and I selected a few items and picked it up curbside. One of the items I got was some blocks for my two year old and let me tell you those have saved us! We have built so many castles and towers. Another time was the other night - I needed to get a couple things for stocking stuffers (and a puzzle for myself). I ordered online but was going to pick up curbside because we're in El Segundo and I felt bad asking them to deliver that far. Andrew text me a little while later saying he was going to be in the area and it would be no problem to delivery. The kindest, most thoughtful gesture. I'm 8 mo pregnant and reducing my contact is a high priority, Andrew knew none of this and still reached out to offer to drop it off at my door. The items were so thoughtfully packaged, with a sweet note and a few fun surprises! It's these small acts that make a difference. I try to shop there as much as possible, especially for my daughter because they have hands down the best kids selection! But everything they have is so wonderful and unique. This place is such a nice breath of fresh air in Hermosa. The people there are always friendly and there are always lots of unique gifts you can find for family and friends. I am especially fond of their card section which always gets a good laugh from anyone I've given a card to. Oh and if you order a card online you can write what you want and they will actually compose the card and mail it out themselves! How convenient is that?! read more

This place is an absolute gem. They have so many wonderful things to buy from this store. They have jewelry, furniture, gift, hilarious books, cool cards, & I could just ramble on and on. On top of the kick ass things to buy, the staff is just the shit. They are all so nice and friendly and made the experience incredibly pleasant. While holiday shopping, they offered soup, sangria (YES), and then my friend and I sang "Poor Unfortunate Souls" for a 35% discount. Okrrrr. Karoake for a discount is a real treat. And they had a whole section in the window set up as a lovely Christmas scene and sweaters and props you can put on and take your picture in. I love this little shop. It seems the merchandise has changed a little bit over the past few months. But this is my go-to shop for a quick hostess gift or birthday gift. Today it was a gift for me! I actually went out thinking it was "small business saturday" first headed to gumtree then maison luxe, then curious. And somewhere in the middle with a few bags in hand realized it was just friday! But it did not stop me from buying a cute little print from this shop for myself. The owner was so friendly and threw in a tack for me to hang it. I was looking for a wine journal and he recommended spots to check for it instead of trying to sell me on something else. I will agree with others on how cute the card selection is and I just adore the christmas cards that they have right now. I will be back out tomorrow for Small Business Saturday! I just really like the feel of shopping from small businesses and really do appreciate the personal touches and attention you get from the sales people/ owners. Horrible customer service! My husband and I were shopping for a gift for a friend and we stopped into this store on a Sunday afternoon since we saw all the amazing reviews. After browsing the store for more than 20 minutes and not being given even so much of a hello by any one of the 3 employers working there, we decided on a small handmade picture frame. While standing in the main area if the store one of the employees started offering beverages to other customers in the store, we were completely ignored. It was not a pleasant experience to be made to feel utterly invisible by these employees and basically they couldn't care less if we shopped there. I guess we don't fit the demographic of their target market and therefore are not worth their time or attention. Whether this treatment was done purposefully or just out of sheer ignorance, nothing excuses poor service and this kind of exclusion. I will never visit this store again; there are many other places in the area where my patronage is appreciated and my husband and I are not subjected to elitist discrimination. Spend your money elsewhere if you value good service. read more

A little homage is paid to the local beach culture with hand drawn local art work on trucker hats and cards hearkening back to the golden days of surf culture in Hermosa Beach. So cool! read more

If zero stars was an option, I would've used that. I visit the Hermosa beach area often and visit the local shops. Beware...if you don't fit their demographic they won't pay much attention to you. The store has unique items for sale and I could actually be okay with paying the ridiculous prices, but to be treated like I don't belong in their store is unacceptable. I was ignored for nearly 20 minutes and even said hi to one of the employees and was ignored. Other people who came in and fit their demographic were greeted and helped. I read some of the other reviews and I think it's funny that some of the yelpers think of this store's owner as "cool" and "hip." I think he's biased and if you don't fit the profile of what he's looking for, you'll be ignored. I'll spend my money elsewhere. read more

This is my all-time FAVORITE gift shop! I used to live across the street and shop here every week! I still live fairly close by and I always come here first for any type of gift I need. I always find adorable handmade pieces for my home here. They have beautiful jewelry, unique and funny cards, hand-painted furniture with unique design, art pieces, and fun gift items. Bryce, the owner, is SO nice and will offer to paint furniture items in a different color if you'd like. It's so neat that his workshop is in the store! I discovered this store about five years ago when my son got transferred to Hermosa Beach and I began regular visits to the area. The first day I went in the shop, I knew it was something special. First of all, Bryce makes beautiful furniture and he is a REAL TALENT. The diversity of the items in the shop will blow you away. I end up walking in for a card and pick up many items to have gifts throughout the year. They will wrap everything separately and have homemade tags and unique wrapping supplies. The help is as ecclectic as the store and you will meet the nicest and most unique people who will make you feel like a valued customer. Other shops could learn a great deal about customer service from Curious. EVERYONE there is happy to be there and supports Bryce's vision for his shop. Everytime I arrive in Hermosa, I head over to Curious and hit it up 2 or 3 times while I'm in town. PS. His annual holiday window displays are happy and make you feel as festive as anywhere. Price varies from the very inexpensive to higher range for big furniture items. Absolutely live this quaint store. read more

What a acute shop! So many unique items/gifts. Perfect for the friend/family member that has everything. The customer service was great and I was able to find a few unique gifts. So many odd little cute things to choose from you could spend some serious time looking at all the things. I think I only saw 1/2 the store before I found a few perfect gifts.
