Since my wife and I moved from San Antonio to the Dallas area, we felt that we wouldn't find an authentic Mexican restaurant. But we were wrong. Cuquita's restaurant is the most authentic "Comida Mexicana" that we have ever found. It's the real thing. We first me Cuquita cooking at her restaurant in East Dallas on Henderson and Capital. That was back in the early 1990s. She took time to show us around her restaurant while telling us her story. I recall her saying that several years before we met her, she lived with husband and children around Harry Hines Blvd. After her husband died, she was left with the responsibility of raising her children. She decided to make money by making tacos and selling them to the late night bar crowd. The rest is history. Go see for yourself. You won't be disappointed! read more

Amazing food. My mom is visiting from Seattle so she always likes to get some good Mexican food. I had the chicken mole. The first time I'd ever tasted the dish and I must say I was very impressed. The mole sauce was nearly black and the chicken was cooked tender. Mom had cheese enchiladas which she enjoyed. We were given a sample of fresh corn tortillas and butter. Such a great taste when they are fresh. We both had margaritas which were nicely liquored up. The only thing I didn't care for was their salsa which seemed oddly "thick", like a soup, and not very spicy. Definitely nothing to detract from our overall experience though. I just ordered from here and I'm very sad to say. Not anything anyone should be serving. Well at least this time. Had the Pozole and it was Cold and not even the slightest hint of heat. It used to arrive hot... It wasn't even good..what gives... Now the clincher. I ordered the chicharon and it was..rancid.. I tried to find another word for it but No other word could justify what the smell was like.. I'm in shock at what was served at and from this Location. I got the wrong plate ( I understand mistakes happen) but the waitress was terrible( L Velasquez) kept us without napkins, soda, chips and salsa, Its awful to have to wait cause there is no tortillas or chips on the table The tortillas were cold, THE FOOD: pretty good quality meats and may be home made style but is really super lame to my taste,it doesn't have to be hot‍but it can be flavorful‍( I like spicy or flavorful). My family and I have been long time customers of this location but after having had such terrible service twice in two months I know we will never go again. Our first visit with bad service our waitress was disrespectful when we my dad asked for caldo de res (as the menu says they have it on the weekend) and the waitress about tore his head off because they had run out hours ago. It was 5pm on a Saturday. 1. How do your run out so fast? 2. How the heck are we supposed to know if not to ask??? This last trip we had a group of 6 arrive for dinner at 8:34 - yes they close at 9pm but we had just seen a group of three be seated so we thought we were okay. We talk to the hostess and they tell us our group is too big to serve this close to closing. If so, why take the group of three? To make matters worse as we were getting back in our car we saw another group of three go in after us and be seated. This place doesn't value its customers and their food is bland with no flavor. My experience at Cuquita's and I know there is a lot of people that like this place but there is other places that food and service is better the place need more staff at rush hours since I saw plenty of tables while there was a lot of people waiting to be seat also they have 3 people helping the customer at the front and they still messing up and skipping people they skip a group of 5 before us they did service them next right away but only until the lady went and talk to them about the problem I think it's a rip off that they charge 2 dólares for a can of coke and you don't get refill only on coffee and teas considering that the majority of restaurant do. I've heard so much about his place I couldn't wait to try it. It's not terrible I think I just didn't order right. It's not Tex MEx, it's Mexican. So make sure you know this from the start. They offer two cooked tortillas that are absolutely delicious. But that is short lived when you realize the chips and salsa is served cold all the time and when I asked for a hot (temp) salsa they didn't have any. That's okay. Man I hate giving bad reviews but also need to do a favor to the universe. This place is horrible !!! Stay away !!! It actually looks ok and the waitresses look great in their Mexican dress attire and it is clean. Don't be fooled. The food sucks big time ! The skinny on what we ordered : Chicken Quesadillas: bland dry big chunks of chicken with a little bit of processed cheese. Mom only took one bite only. Beef fajitas: they brought in tortillas already instead of the normal sizzling hot plate of fajitas that the whole world is used to, and the meat was also bland and poor quality to chew properly. It comes with 3 and I could barley force 1 and a half down my throat . Horrible ! Felt sick to my stomach afterwards. Beef burritos : same story as the fajitas but they rolled them up . Chicken Salad: not on the menu so ask if you dare. Just the same iceberg lettuce they use for side garnish with the same bland rubbery chicken breast meat with some Alvacado slices. Horrible! Staff: Are usually kind except one specific didn't get her name but once you visit you'll know exactly who she is, she's always rude and moody. Food: I found a hair in my sour cream in my flautas plate , they didn't do anything about it. Manager didn't even come and talk to me about it. My family and I have lived in the metroplex for the past 17 1/2 years, and have been eating at Cuquita's ever since. The serve the closest to what one would call "Mexican food" in around the suburbs. If you're looking for traditional Tex-Mex, this place is not for you. I have ordered the same item every single time, cheese enchiladas mixed green/red sauce. My husband always gets the tacos de barbacoa which he loves, and my daughter the beef or chicken flautas. We frequent the Richardson location 98% of the time, and I do feel their sauce is much better. Great environment, a bit loud and busy but a great place to go. Cuquita's was a GREAT find for authentic Mexican food. From the moment we walked in, the ambience was spot on. Definitely not your run of the mill Mexican food joint. The service was good, the aromas of the food cooking was amazing. The flavors of the chips and chili are great and flavorful. I ordered the costillas de puerco con Chile Verde and was happy I did. My wife and I eat here often. Its usually busy because it's very popular. I'd expect slower service so if that's important to you maybe go to on the border. Mariachis come and play sometimes and there great! Lots of seating from groups. I get the costillas verdes, chicken enchiladas, and the homemade tortillas. read more

I like this place, well the food is good. But the parking lot always has a ton of trash in it. It's scattered all over place and doesn't give it a great appearance obviously. Other than that the food is great. I really miss the old location in Henderson where the waitress did not have to wear that whole get up they do now. Also I wish they opened sooner for breakfast. The soup was rich and the meat was tender. They serve you a complimentary corn tortilla warmed just right and served with a pat of butter. These reviews are absolutely ridiculous. First of all, Cuquita's is NOT Tex-Mex, so go eat your Tex-Mex at a Tex-Mex place, sir! Secondly, I've NEVER had bad service, nor any hostesses skipping people. Neither my husband nor I are Hispanic and we always receive impeccable service. Lastly, did you SERIOUSLY publicly humiliate someone? Especially one who has influence over your food. Terrible. I don't even know what to say here. Cuquita's is amazing. I've been to the Henderson location (RIP), the Spring Valley one (eh), and this one (yay!). I would honestly compare this one to the Henderson location. I'm so happy that it's near my house! Cuquita's has the best EVERYTHING, especially horchata. You should try theirs with your meal! We go almost every weekend for breakfast and I'd especially recommend the barbacoa a la Mexicana or the chilaquiles- both divine. The tortillas are JUST LIKE the ones I had when I lived in Mexico- if you've never had homemade corn tortillas, please do yourself a favor and try them there. You will be a flour tortilla convert- they are soft and fluffy and flavorful! Honestly, call me one weekend morning and I'll go with you. Maybe they can recognize a friendly face when they see one, because the ladies at Cuquita's are always amazing to us.
