For an American, The styling service and ordering is somewhat unorthodox but I think this may be what Covid has made it look like these days. We were immediately seated upon arrival and everyone was pleasant. We had one menu dropped off at our table but. QR code was also available bo one took the order, we had to place it using the QR code and drinks came in almost immediately. I ordered the flight id Bret and it was all delicious. We added the fried squid and oysters and they were great too. For food, we ordered 3 pizzas (margarita, zucchini and pepperoni, they were all delicious. For ambiance we chose to sit outside and enjoy the weather, although rain was expected but we lucked out. Definitely will come back when in Ulladulla again. read more

Lovely view and location. Food sizes were tiny. Prices were high. Pizza was delicious but the toppings were minimal which is a shame. The service was pleasant and attentive. NB: I've has a large bowl of calamari for less $$$ compare to 6 pieces only, on a plate. read more

I've been to Cupitts a number of times, and it has always been very pleasant, though I would not describe myself as a "fan" so I'm holding off 4 stars. More like 3.5. LOCATION: This is probably the best thing about Cupitts -- it looks out to a hilly valley ... out onto the lush south coast of NSW. The buildings are marvellous heritage structures with sensitive additions, lots of stonework ... and what looks like a dairy now serves as the tasting room. You can sit outside in the sun, sipping wine and eating cheese, staring out to the rolling hills and grapevines. It's Barossa-Valley-esque. FOOD: The menu has a nice balance of local seafood, meat, and always a small number of vegetarian options. The dishes are usually beautifully done, although sometimes a little predictable (goats cheese & zucchini flower tart, kipfler potatoes with a variety of meat dishes ... ). I had the duck and it was beautifully cooked (not overdone) ... and the rest of our table were pretty happy with their dishes too. The prices of the dishes are quite high, $29-38 for mains, $18-22 for entrees, plus $2 per person for extra bread ... AMBIENCE: Chilled out, family friendly, and very mixed in terms of ages. The space is airy, sunny, and has great views. It can get noisy at busy times (which I didn't notice, but the oldies were complaining, as they do). SERVICE: I think this is where Cupitts kinda falls down a bit. It feels a bit amateurish and sometimes they make more problems rather than smoothing things over. Case in point: two people at our table had their dishes brought to them (the correct dishes). Because no one else had their food, and they were too polite to touch them (but they could well have easily had a bite..). About 5 minutes later ... after the waitstaff were visibly confused, wandering from table to table, one waiter then apologised and took the two dishes back off the table. Instead of taking them back to the kitchen - they just put them straight onto the table next to us, which we thought was pretty dodgy. I know it's not a big deal, but I thought this was really indicative of an amateurish approach to service... particularly when people are paying up to $38 for a main dish. Sure, the staff are friendly and attentive, but they aren't really pros. THE WINE: I thoroughly recommend their Chardonnay ... that's all I'll say on this point at the moment. read more

Refined dining experience with sublime views! Cupitt's Kitchen is just exquisite. The views afforded to diners, overlooking the winery itself are sublime-what a beautiful find for a long lunch destination. The food is very good-a well thought out menu, with matching wines if you'd like. We had a really nice pinot noir. The level of service marries well with the ambiance, food and overall experience-perfect! We had the sashimi, chargrilled quail, snapper fillet & beef flank-all delicious. A meal at Cupitt's Kitchen can be a moo-ving experience, especially when watching the herds of cattle in the valley below the restaurant. Don't know for sure if they are the source for the wonderful Black Angus steaks served here, but their contented demeanour fits right in with the tenderness of my dish! Drive past the town's waste management centre, and the view improves greatly once seated; looking over the winery's vines to the river and valley below. Prices are quite reasonable for the quality ingredients (sourced locally as much as possible), and the freshness shines through. read more

4 of us went to Cupits for lunch. The setting is lovely however value for money, meal sizes and service is a big let down. Would I return...defiantly not. Nice to go for a glass of wine and perhaps a cheese platter and take in the country air but I would save your cash for something better. For what they charge for a main meal approx $40 the servings are small. I had kingfish which was half the size you would expect and you need to order sides to go with it and you still leave hungry. Coming from Sydney you do expect to get a bit better value down the South coast however I find that I get better value /service / meal sizes etc in Sydney. Any extras you want such as vegies with your main or bread is all charged for which you would expect out of Sydney this would be included. read more

Visiting some friends down the coast, and we decide on Cupitt's for lunch. Quite a drive from south of Bateman's Bay, but were happy to travel for a good experience. First impressions are excellent. We wind our way through the back streets of Ulladulla until we enter Cupitt's drive...and the beautiful dairy country opens up. Fantastic views across the valley to the escarpment. Heritage buildings and what is obviously still a working dairy as well as a vineyard. We are seated promptly and the meal begins. Duck terrine for two of us, chicken and chorizo terrine and scallops for the better half. All are given a passing grade with scallop eater in raptures over her smallish sized shellfish. Interestingly the scallops are charged per scallop, the dinner choosing how many they wish to partake in. Three as it turned out :) Entrees cost around $15 - $18. The women drink bubbles, the men choose the draft beer - an Illawarra Brewing company product that looked like a lager, but tasted like a bitter. Mains arrive promptly. Grilled local snapper with globe artichoke and olive oil mash; Black Angus scotch fillet with duck fat potatoes and a shallot confit; Spring bubble and squeak with duck egg, walnut and picalilli dressing; and Crumbed local Ling, served with chips. We order two sides to share - greens and an organic mixed leaf salad. We ordered a bottle of the 2011 Southern Highlands Syrah. It was passable, though a little young to offered at the restaurant. Again, all present were happy with the meals. There were some slight imperfections though. The side of greens was actually beans. Just beans. No problem with them, just we expected more than one "green". The chips that accompanied the Ling were dead boring, almost as if they were from the local chippy. Surely is there's duck fat in the kitchen, then that could be used for the chips as well. I had the bubble and squeak and it was delicious. However, the duck egg was underdone. Glutinous egg white is neither attractive to look at, nor eat. Mains ranged from $28 - $35. Sides were $7 and $8. Service was pretty good, staff were friendly and attentive. Sides seem to have been forgotten though, and didn't arrive until we'd eaten about half of our mains. Ambiance is very relaxed with people and dogs coming and going. So a 4 star meal with a few minor gripes stopping it from a 5. Cost overall was about $320 (incl tip), for four people. By no means cheap, but we all went away happy. read more
