Beyond impressed!!! Both of my daughters wanted to try edgy hairstyles this school year and we thankfully found Couzzo's!!!! I stumbled upon cuozzo studio for hair as I was looking for places in the area specifically for color correction. I knew red hair color was really hard to remove so I wanted to make sure I went to the right person. I found Joseph's instagram and was immediately impressed with all of his color correction work. Together him and his colleague Mandy worked to remove all the red from my hair! They worked around my schedule and stayed late for me. They were very dedicated to completing the task. Although I feel bad writing a negative review out of a myriad of positive reviews, my unsatisfaction should be voiced. Came here quite awhile ago highly recommended for a haircut by a friend of mine. I usually get my haircuts at high end salons such as Sally Hershberger, Garren, etc. However, the economic crisis has me searching for something lighter on my pocket. I booked an appointment with Tonya, who's the owner, and I was excited. I showed up on time and Tonya was just finishing with a client. I get shampooed by a lovely girl who was very friendly and talkative. I get into the chair to get my haircut with Tonya and instantly her attitude wasn't too kind. My mom accompanied me to the haircut and we are bilingual. My mom even commented that she felt she was somewhat racist once she saw we were exotic (not specifying my race) I explained to her I wanted a simple haircut with some layers but to just take off a few inches. She seemed frustrated dealing with my long, nearly to the small of my back hair, and wasn't exactly too talkative either. I am a social person so squirming in a chair in silence while she goes about cutting my hair was awkward. She is done with the haircut and my mom and I just didn't really like the end result. Yes I told her to play it safe and take off a few inches but the left side of my hair was uneven, slightly longer than my right. I asked her to fix it and again, she was impatient. Some other lady walks in and she quickly finishes my cut and asks the shampoo girl to blowdry. For $70-75 I'd expect better, more focused service instead of being pissed while cutting my hair and finishing early to tend to another customer. Literally she didn't even spend more than 15-20 minutes on my hair. I left a $20 dollar tip OUT OF PITY and as a parting gift and would NEVER return. She seemed surprised by my nice tip as well. And she marked me off as cheap by her attitude. Oh please. Your loss. Would NEVER recommend. Drove over an hour and was disappointed. Got home and realized upon closer inspection that my hair had more UNEVEN layers. How can you screw up a haircut when you claim to have been in the business for years?! EXTREMELY UNSATISFIED. Am going to a new place now who actually appreciates my business, is welcoming and actually spends times getting to know their potential new clientele. read more

I have been coming here for years and every stylist is incredibly talented. As a blonde, it's really important to get the color just right and for that color to change in the fall/winter months to the summer/spring months. They never fail to impress me with how spot on they get my color and how they listen. They are extremely conservative with big changes but that is because they want to make sure you make those changes over time. For example, when I wanted to be a red head a few years ago they did this process gradually. Not only was this better for my hair but it also made it possible to go back to a blonde. What a great experience. I made an appointment at the last minute on a Friday and they were able to fit me in on Saturday for my first visit. I researched a bunch of places and Zion was the only one that showed their work on their facebook page. There looks are refreshing. They can be wild but also up to date styles for everyone. Kassandra did my hair today. Although she appears to be very young, she was a true professional. More so than most people twice her age. She sat me down, asked me questions about what I was looking to do, and told me what she thought we should do to fix a bad cut I got somewhere else. She was thoughtful and made me feel important for the time I was there. Joseph, the owner, came up as I was getting my hair cut. We discussed how I found his place and if I wanted to do something about my color. Which will soon need to be updated. I told him about my past experience, and he offered some solutions for easy maintenance. We also chatted about his and his wife's philosophy on the continuous education of this team and the importance of staying on top of trends. The place is small but a really cool atmosphere. There is art for sale on its' brick walls. The place has a modern flair with some antique like accents. I really had a wonderful experience. The staff was super friendly as were the owners. It's not often that you get to have an experience as friendly and warm as this one, all while you're getting a great hair cut. Thanks team Zion. I will definitely be back. read more

I am providing an update to my previous post and experience. Sorry about the lateness, I wanted to see how the color lasted and then put up my review...but then I waited too long and forgot...anyway! The owner (Joseph) reached out to me and offered me a complimentary cut and single process color after seeing my less than stellar yelp review. I took him up on the color, and it came out quite nicely. He even glazed it for me to help with some frizz and add more bulk to my fine fine hair. The color was exactly what I wanted, even though I did not ask for a major change (medium brown to darkest brown). While I was there, I saw a young woman getting her hair dyed platinum blonde. Her result was stunning! If I could pull that off, I would definitely have Joseph do that to my hair! All in all, I am satisfied. I appreciate that Zion's owners stand behind the services they provide, and I would not hesitate to go back to get my hair colored again. read more

I've worked mostly with Kassandra and Dana here for the past year for my regular cut and color and I cannot speak highly enough of everyone here! I had trouble finding a salon that carried red tones for coloring and since Cuozzo uses Wella, they had plenty to work with - it's also great quality, so my color lasts longer. I've never had a long wait, the price is competitive and I really have always liked everyone who works here. Everyone knows their stuff, so even if I have to see someone new, I'm always confident that it's going to end well. After years of loyalty to another stylist, when she moved out of town, my mom also started regularly seeing Dana and I know she would only have good things to say as well. I have been going to Zion for 7 years now and would not go anywhere else. We were planning an international move (which fell through) and I was planning my trips back home to see Tonya and Joseph. That's how good they are. Joseph knows what colour looks good with your skin, he has a knack for it, and Tonya makes your hair look super stylish. Another thing that I LOVE about her cuts, is that my hair looks fabulous for months afterwards. Not just that day when she blows it out. The salon itself has a super cool, relaxed vibe, something that is tough to find in this area of NJ. As a breast cancer survivor, my first haircut was a major milestone in my recovery. It took 1yr4mo to grow my hair and be ready for a cut. I was new to the area and chose Cuozzo for the reviews. I took a half day off work because if I wanted a weekend spot I would've had to wait another 30 days. I regret stepping foot into this salon and will never go back. I left in tears because they turned what should've been an amazing experience into a nightmare. I brought in 14 pictures, shared them with my stylist (Dana). We discussed and decided that the styles (all very similar) would work but she wanted to leave a little more length in the back. I will spare all of the details but I said 8 times during the cut and style process I hate what you are doing, I do not like the style. At the end she suggested I go home and "wet it and restyle myself to make sure" I asked for another stylist and she responded that "no one else was available to help me today." I checked out crying, numbly shook my head up and down agreeing for a follow up appt. The receptionist did ask "are you okay?" I explained that I hated my haircut and I was going to try and restyle at home. I should've asked for a manager, but I was destroyed, how could my first experience getting a haircut be so horrible? I just wanted to get out of there. I went home, wet and restyled my hair twice and called back within the hour stating that I still hated my hair and needed someone to fix it today (they were still open for two hours). The receptionist stated no one could help me but she could schedule me for a Tuesday afternoon. Yes...she wanted me to take more time off of work to fix their mistake. I declined and decided to find a new salon. I went on to find another salon who gave me an amazing cut. I tried to leave the nightmare experience from Cuozzo behind me, then I got a call reminding me of my upcoming appt (the one I agreed to through tears). I shared in detail my experience and why I would not come back, ever. The receptionist response, "I'm sorry your schedule could not accommodate one of our stylist being able to help you." Are you kidding me?! The receptionist blamed me for her salons lack of customer service and professionalism. This is why I finally wrote a review. I still think back to how excited I was to finally have enough hair to have a cut after loosing it to chemo.And I will never forget how that experience, my joy, was stolen by a salon full of non caring people who blamed me for the bad experience. Every time I drive by there I get a little angry but even more sad. I waited 1 year and 4 months to get my haircut after surviving cancer, and you stole that momentous moment from me. read more

This was my first time at Zion, but I was there for over half a day- so I think my input should count for something! After four years of constant applications, interviews, internships, I wanted to do something different and fun with my hair before starting work in January. I contacted Zion after seeing many of the positive reviews on Yelp. During the initial consultation, Joseph was upfront and realistic about what could be achieved with my hair. I appreciated how quickly he got on board with what I wanted to do and also shared his vision, making suggestions for both color and how it would work with a new cut. Initially, I wanted to do a blue dip dye that could be chopped off into a bob after two months. Joseph made a great point about being able to transition easily into a more professional hair cut after two months, and that more dramatic hair colors could still be wearable and on trend. After the consultation, I felt sure that I could trust them and decided to take the plunge into a more complete hair do-over. I had a cut with Tonya the same night that turned out great- very light and balanced while still maintaining volume. It has been really easy to style and I never realized how heavy my hair had been until Tonya cut it! The next day, I sat through a very involved process of full ombre highlights and color blending (that I still don't completely understand). The entire staff was very patient and hardworking, and managed to make me feel looked after throughout the entire 6-hour process- despite being busy with many other clients. The end result was amazing- a dimensional and complex style that really elevated the initial concept I had in mind (see photos attached). Joseph and Tonya are professionals who clearly love what they do. They aren't overly chatty, but are very friendly and make your visit relaxing and fun. The salon clientele is very diverse, and it was a lot of fun to see them leave with an equally diverse range of haircuts that suited them perfectly. Will definitely be back in January for the transition to working life... thank you Zion! EDIT: after reading one of the reviews below about a possible 'racial component' to the salon, just want to comment that I'm Asian and that the idea of any negative experience being the result of any racial element is almost laughable to me. Wow, finally found a great salon after a year search in the Morristown area. The owner Joseph not only did a phenomenal job but was an absolute pleasure to talk to. The salon unlike most in the area is easy going, unpretentious and delivers great results. It was so refreshing to watch the staff interact in a respectful manner, not preoccupied with their phone and my hair came out great! This place is the BEST - make an appointment NOW! Joseph and his team spent the better part of a day doing color correction on my daughter's hair. Unfortunately, she had taken her hair into her own hands for about 2 years - bleaching, boxed dyes and doing her own cuts - this left her hair pretty damaged. Joseph was intentional and kind in his approach to restoring some measure of health to her hair and delivering a color that she was hoping for - she left the salon feeling the best she's felt about herself in quite awhile - it brought my to tears :) And, given we were there most of the day, I had the opportunity to see the team work on many styles, cuts and colors - everyone left looking amazing. I decided to try the salon based on the great reviews and the nice photos on their website and facebook. I went in with pictures of what I'm going for(of one of my past haircuts that looked good). I also brought pictures of a bad haircut to show what to avoid, and provided a detailed explanation of exactly what I want. The cut initially came out much longer than I had asked for, and when I asked to go shorter, things really started to go downhill. She cut the top shorter without touching the sides and back, so everything looked a bit weird as a result. I asked her to trim the sides a bit to match that. After several adjustments, the sides/top were finally short, but it was poorly done and didn't frame my face well at all. Worst of all, had I not asked to see the back, she would have let me walk out looking like I've got a mullet. The top and sides were significantly shortened, but the back was not touched since the initial cut. Long story short, terrible cut. Had to go get it fixed elsewhere, and still wish I could wear a hat for a week or two until it grows out. I should also mention that the girl was a fairly new stylist. I'm sure they have better stylists there, but the receptionist simply said "well, all of our stylists are trained to do that" when I called and explained my specifications. read more

I wish I could give this salon and my colorist Dana 10 stars! Long story short I went to a different salon trying to take my long brunette hair to a balayage blonde. The salon I went to originally was in New York and not only did I leave with a very obvious line between my brunette "roots" and now blonde ends but the color was yellow and my once long hair was 5 inches shorter (I had asked for a trim)! The condition of my hair was terrible and not to sound overly dramatic but I cried for a week. I found the Zion salon on yelp and was hoping they could help my hair disaster. I walked in Tuesday morning to a busy salon that was fully booked for the week...instead of turning me away the receptionist moved schedules around and got me in that afternoon for a olaplex treatment and color consultation. (olaplex is awesome and took my over processed damaged hair to a much healthier condition) Dana assured me she could help fix the color and got me in for an appointment within 48 hours. I left today finally feeling like I had beautiful hair again! Dana got the color exactly like I wanted. The salon itself is very cute and the entire staff was super friendly! Ive been going to another salon on Kings Rd. for haircuts but as lovely as my stylist was at this other salon, she never got what I was looking for. Being from NYC, and moving to Madison was culture shock overload. I am not the normal 30-something Morris County chick. I thought I would have to deal with "Mommy and Mature" salons for the rest of residency in Madison, NJ. I have been toying with the idea of shaving one side of my head for years and I finally felt like I could live with it if it wasn't all that I dreamed of (and deal with the negative comments). So I made an appointment with Zion (I thought an edgy looking salon would be fitting) and I am soooo happy with my hair. I felt more at ease when my stylist, Dana, mentioned that she had done this style before. It came out great thanks to her. All of my nay-sayers were eating their words! I recently had a my hair cut, high-lighted and glazed at Zion and was incredibly pleased! Anna gave me one of the best cuts I have had in a long time - she took her time and was very attentive to what I wanted. Joe did the color and it came out beautiful. I haven't had highlights or anything in my hair for a while and was a little nervous but am in love with the result! Everyone was very accommodating and worked well with one-another. I have been to this salon in past and would not go back. My highlights were not close enough to my scalp the way I asked and spots were missed. Glazing was just "ok". But I chalk that up to my personal preference. What Im shocked about with these reviews is it seems every negative or not steller review here the owner or owner's feel they need to condescend and react defensive to the clients HONEST experience? I find that very telling in a world where on line ratings are the norm and I believe it is clearly the best for the customers to be able to review other's experiences especially in a service centered business as hair. I disagree with Joseph's comments that clients should not post negative reviews? What, only positive in a service business such as hair? This is why I only use Angie's List to provide myself with a more honest, realistic search for vendors and services. Honestly, noone is perfect so I make my own decisions if someone's comments are more on the personal level (you can tell by what they complain about). I have not read any that seemed bullish or unfair but honest- It is consumer's right to honestly provide feedback as i personally review customer feedback as ESSENTIAL before hiring services and products. It creates a more "fair" reality. Customers now have the power to make better decisions. Ultimately is is BEST for the business as it encourages you to work harder to please your clients and not get lazy and full of yourself. A better response would be - Im so sorry you feel this way. We will do our best to work on these issues and hope you come back soon. After my stylist of 9 years (who i LOVED) moved out of state, I was in search of a place that was had excellent stylists/colorists who would not only provide excellent service, but honest opinions about styles/cuts/colors that would work best for me. I can't say enough good things about the experiences I've had with everyone in the salon, from the receptionists, assistants and even the other clients. Kassandra always does an amazing job of translating my ideas styles into an amazing haircut and Joseph is always willing to try something new and exciting with my color.
