Terrible place. Mix up on ski hill and returned the wrong skis. They happily accepted them, and then told us they were the wrong ones. Never got the ones we returned back and they charged us $600. Mix ups happen on ski hills - this was a terrible way to resolve it. read more

Buyer Beware! I needed a spare pair of ski poles. Previously just last year, I had bought over $1000 worth of merchandise from this store to include new skis, bindings, and apparel. I was shown a pair of ski poles and my immediate reaction was that they were a little bit too short. Tyler, the sales associate said no - they looked about right. So I bought them assuming he knew. I even expressed my concern that with my boots and skis on, they would feel even shorter. I've been skiing for over 60+ years so I know the feel of the proper ski pole. My mistake I should've just walked out. But he did convince me to buy them. as soon as I got on the mountain, I knew immediately they were too short by about 2 inches. I stopped using them so that I would not damage them. that same afternoon just a few hours later I stopped by and asked if I could just exchange them for the same ones proper size, just 2 inches longer. He refused, he said all sales were final! And I said, how do you suggest that we resolve this he said really "it's your preference. You can buy another new pair." at that point, I decided that they obviously don't care about customer loyalty. We live up here and I will be sure to tell all of my friends about my lack of customer experience and definitely loyalty at this ski shop. I also paid $25 for a junior associate to examine my bindings for safety. In total I spent approximately $85, all which for them is going to be a bad profit. Unless you're 100% certain, do not walk out the door with any sales item from Cunningham's. read more

The owner doesn't even pretend to care about customer satisfaction most of the time, really feels like hes just trying to nickle and dime you in whatever way he can. They didn't have the boots I was looking for in the correct size and he spent about 15 minutes trying to convince me 'it would be fine' even though ive been riding for over 10 years and im pretty sure I know what I want the boots to feel like. No concern for customer loyalty or experience, just insisting that they're the ones who should get your money and definitely not any of the other stores (who actually did have my size, how about that) read more

March 2023. I needed to purchase ski boots. I asked some people at Gore who they would recommend. Cunningham's (North Creek) was NOT at the top of their list. Nevertheless, I gave them a shot. The facility is old and products are very poorly displayed. I met the salesman who was actually the owner. Not much is displayed but he presented a couple of options. I trusted him and felt that he would steer me in the right direction. I ended up purchasing a pair and used them for two runs at Gore the next day. The boots were a disaster. I had to stop because I felt I might injure myself. I immediately went to the store, it was noon. It was closed. I paid $549.00, cash. The same boots could be purchased on line for $389.00. The next morning I returned the boots to the owner. I was hoping for my "Satisfaction Guarantee". I did not get it. He said that he would need to take a little off what I paid. He gave me $400.00 back. That is more than a little! I stated that I did not think that was fair. His response was "all sales were final" and what would you like to do? I could see there was no way of going forward with the discussion. So I took the $400.00 and left. This was close to theft. This was one of the worst retail experiences I have ever had. read more

Went today and rented snowboard, boots, and helmet for myself along with skis, boots and poles for my daughter. And I have to say they had very good customer service... the two men who helped us in the am were very knowledgeable about equipment and gear. We were in and out! I even picked up some new gloves and goggles while I was there... great deals! Definitely a local gem. Excellent snow gear rental spot! Awesome customer service. My friends and I came here for snowboard equipment rentals before heading out to Whiteface Mountain. This shop had the best customer service I ever experienced. I loved how they took the time to customize the equipment for us. Not only they took into consideration your weight, height, and level of experienced but the also see how wide your stance was before adjusting the snowboard bindings. Not to mention performance snowboards such as the Never Summer brand. 10/10 will definitely come back again! read more

Nice people for sure, but the sales guy who helped me sold me $300 union bindings that were too large for my board which I later found out causes "toe drag"... partly my own fault for not doing my research and trusting this guy, but honestly felt taken advantage of after learning this... Great place to rent ski gear. The staff was friendly and informative and the prices were better than going to Whiteface to purchase rentals.

Displeased as they gave one of my sons ski's that were much to long for a first timer likely because they didn't have shorter in stock. One son got the proper length the others were as tall as him. Made the $150 we spent on lessons for our 10 year old not nearly as productive as they could've been. Service was not great, you're there kind of interrupting their day. Selection was not nearly as good as others, for example, Lake Placid Ski and Board had very current skis/boots while Cunningham didn't. read more

Walked into the shop, and neither person working could be bothered to even say hi. We tried to engage the one guy about a demo ski's package they had on sale, but he was way too busy to spend time talking to us about them. We are not 20 something "dudes" but we love to ski and we're in the market to update our gear. Found Corey up the street at Lake Placid Ski and Board Shop and he was outstanding. Purchased a complete package from him. If you like rude service then this is the shop for you. read more

My family rented from Cunningham's over the busy Presidents' Day weekend. The staff quickly and thoroughly outfitted the four of us with equipment that suited our respective needs. My son broke a pole during the first day; it was replaced at the end of the day, no questions asked. When my skis and poles were taken from the base lodge at the end of the second day, they kindly gave me replacement equipment at no charge (actually, much better demo skis) so that I could ski the last day of our trip. Fortunately, my missing skis and poles turned up at the lost and found at the end of that last day, apparently having been taken by mistake by another skier. I'd gladly rent from Cunningham's again. read more

I completely disagree with the other reviewers. I'm not a local, but have been outfitting my family there for years. Some skiers, some riders, some a bit of both. I have found the employees all helpful and believe that Mike is the best boot fitter in the area. I agree they don't spend their money on high gloss marketing, but the variety of boots and boards is excellent and sizes are covered as well. I think they are the best game in town for rentals, and service. read more

Had a real bad experience with Cunningham's. Bought Ski Boots there at over $100 more than online but thought to support the local vendor. The boots had a technical defect, which was under warranty. In Feb 2010 I started calling Cunningham's to get a return authorization from the manufacturer (Tecnica) since Tecnica would not deal with me directly. It took them 9 months! and endless phone calls on my part to get me the stupid return authorization. So I sent the boots to Tecnica, and instructions to send them back to me. Instead, Tecnica sent the boots to Cunningham's in Dec. 2010. Today, Feb 4th 2011 I received my boots. In the meantime I have spent over $200 on rental boots and hours on the phone with the 'I am only here part time' staff at Cunningham's. They have made absolutely no effort to rectify the situation at any point. I will not set foot in there again and suggest you do not do so either. Susanne read more

Very poor customer service. I think some of the employees are good but the bad ones ruin it for the whole staff. In our case it was a pushy, arrogant manager. The fact that a manager made it to that position while demonstrating such poor service speaks volumes. We rented skis and while testing ski boots requested a boot size that was larger. The employee insisted multiple times that we snap them on and when with much effort we were able to get them snapped he had us sign the form and sent us on our way. After 10 minutes of skiing it was clear they were far too tight. To save time we rented from the mountain and the skis were perfect. (Note that the mountain rental staff was kind courteous and helpful, highly recommend them.) When we asked to speak with the manager he refused to take the conversation to the side and made a public spectacle with intent to embarrass us out of the store. He succeeded. Please avoid at least the lake placid location and should you actually go in after reading this review please take special note of the "no refunds" sign on the door. read more

The rental experience was not pleasant at all. The shop looked nice and they seemed to have a decent amount of rental equipment. The first employee we spoke with seemed very nice but the second employee who was "helping" me was very rude and would not listen to my requests. After a few insults and convincing me that I needed a smaller boot than what was requested, we were rushed out the door. We even ended up forgetting the poles in the rush, and they did not notice. I was hoping the boots could be adjusted, but even at the maximum settings, they were just not large enough. I ended up renting from the ski mountain. The rental equipment seemed fair, but not exceptionally well maintained. When we returned, we were asked if everything went well by the guy at the return desk. We mentioned the poor fit and he kindly directed us to the manager who seemed to be busy with a few people at the front desk. We asked to speak with him, but he did not seem to want to be bothered. After a very short conversation, it was quite clear that he did not want to speak with us and did not care to listen to what we had to say. He did make it very clear that he would not give us a refund, although we did not ask for one. read more
