Other places have stuffed animals of course, however this has the best selection. Name an animal and they'll have it. Of course they have other souvenirs too if you want. An extremely kind, nice & hospitable fellow working here!!…read more I was looking for any sort of brochures that they might have about Whiteface Mountain . Popular ski shack where you can buy skis another hiking gear. I could see people enjoying the area outback of the stop. It was just in a very wonderful, beautiful nature scape. Gorgeous area!!!! They even had a guitar if you feel like coming just to relax and strum a few songs... You're welcome to, and it was donated for that very purpose. They also had a large sort of restaurant bar area that was not open now, but look quite delightful. I did use the bathroom here and picked up some brochures .

Thus far, this is my favorite store in Lake Placid. I actually went back twice on this trip. The…read moregentlemen behind the counter were helpful when you asked them for help and let you browse if you did not need help. I found so many things that were really unique and fabulous. I had to look very carefully because I wanted to buy twice the amount that I did. The jewelry was really unique and gorgeous, but I held out for a batik backpack, a hand collaged journal and a pair of drawstring pants that I adore. I also bought some handcrafted paper that I used to make my own handcrafted journal and some textured silk wool that I'll use for some kind of crafting project. I only regret that I did not opt to buy more. I had my eye on some felted flowers, some cute handbags and a few other things. I also should have bought more clothes. I had my eye on another pair of those pants, too. I agree with the reviewer that said I could have stayed all day. My husband rolled his eyes when I said I must go back! My only hesitation is to write that the prices were so great. The prices were very reasonable for such beautiful goods. I don't want them to go up! By the way, on the Yelp site, the picture of my journal showed up under the title for their store. It's not sold in the store, but I want to acknowledge artistic credit for it. I certainly could make it or something like it for the store or anyone who wants one. I just want to credit myself for it.

A great stop in the Adirondacks, Red Canoe Antiques is rich with history and rich with a ton of old…read morestuff! Naturally I had to seek out all of the antique shops while I was in Saranac Lake for the weekend, and Red Canoe was one of the ones nearby (just 10 minutes from where we were staying in town). The antiques are housed in what was once a speakeasy, and a themed restaurant, which is very apparent when you step inside! The walls and ceilings still carry the remnants of the old restaurant that used to reside here, and the building itself is on the National Register of Historic Places, so it's such a cool sight in itself. As for the shopping experience, it was marvelous! There's tons of furniture pieces here, plus an assortment of smaller items, including china/glassware, dining sets, photographs and pins, jewelry, and some of my favorite things - antique Adirondack souvineers! The larger pieces (and even some of the smaller ones) are a bit on the pricey side as far as antiques go, but I'd have to say it's likely because of the location - they often don't get too much traffic during off-seasons (as told by one of the employees I spoke to) and a ton of the things I found here are pretty hard to come by as far as antique standards go. I actually left this place with some goodies! I found an incredibly cool glasses holder (not a case, it's velvet on the inside and only holds the lenses upright) from the 50's, and a vintage Saranac Lake penant. A friend of mine also ended up taking home a cabinet with still-working lock and key drawers for an incredibly great deal, and we were able to load it up into her car the next morning before leaving town (they were only a few minutes late to opening, but it wasn't an issue as the neighbors spotted us outside and offered to call one of the workers if they were getting to be incredibly late). All in all I had an excellent experience here. Only one of the two shops I was able to visit while we were in town (but I'll definitely be back!), I'd say it's probably one of the best shops to visit in the area. With a good variety of antique mountaineer goodies, it feels so good to be able to bring something home from this shop. The memories are priceless!
