The Cunningham Seawall 10K is the oldest road running event in BC which first started in 1971 and this was my first time running it. From 2014, it has been organized by Rock 'n' Roll Marathon series which has been owned and operated the Competitor Group from San Diego.
The bib and t-shirt pickup was at the Health and Fitness Expo at Canada Place. Since I registered for a 10k race and a half-marathon, I picked up both of my race day packages at the same time. The bib did not contain an electronic timing chip and I was given a separate timing chip that I had to attach to my running shoe which is totally old school. The 10k t-shirt was made by Brooks Running, which is a company that knows about running and that's a good thing. These days, there are so many running events which the organizers will use a non-running company to make the shirts at the lowest cost. I tested the 10k t-shirt at the gym and outside and it performed very well for fit, comfort, and breathability.
On race day, there were buses near the Waterfront station that picked up runners to the start line at The Inukshuk in English Bay. The 10k race started at English Bay and it went through the Stanley Park Seawall and finished at Devonian Harbour Park. The run itself was excellent with beautiful fall season scenery at Stanley Park and every runner I encountered was very respectful and I did not witness or encounter pushing or shoving during the race.
The finish line food could have been better (Goldfish cheese crackers, corn crackers, cold bananas) and I was surprised to even see an Alaskan Airlines branded snack mix which was odd since the event wasn't even sponsored by Alaskan Airlines. I wished there were hot drinks or hot food such as soup, hot chocolate, or coffee. Also, the event organizers forgot to bring their alcohol license, so none of the runners could get their free beer at the finish line and I found that out from my yelper friend, Marje B., who also ran the half-marathon race the next day.
The finish line medal is good quality and it has some colour to it which I do like and the volunteers did a great job. read more
