I ended up buying this pair of cute white "Ripcurl" shorts and comfy "Gentle Fawn" tank top. They were both 40% less than the retail price. However, if you are willing to dig, you can find some really great gems. The cashier was also really sweet and came over from behind the counter to play with my dog. Pretty good hidden gem with the selection they had (bonus 25% off red tags too!) Definitely worth taking your brother or boyfriend to as the woman's stuff has been picked through. We did the entire 'snowboard alley' of W 4th and this place had by far the best deals. Not only were the prices better to begin with, they also carried more classic styles and colours in jackets and pants that suited my friend's fashion tastes. The staff were really helpful picking out a snowboard that was a great price, European-made and would last him for years. The graphics were pretty sweet, too. The board was freshly waxed and they set it up with the bindings in-store. In addition to already low prices and some sale items, the staff cut my friend a deal since he was buying a bunch of gear. It was the cherry on top! This shop also has non-snow-related sporting gear on the second floor.

When I walked in I felt out of place as most beginner snowboarders probably would feel. It just looked like a small, cramped board shop to me but compared to the other places, I'd take that over the stuffy, boutique type of shops the others seemed to be. Jess at West Coast was very helpful asking me questions to better hone in on what type of equipment would best suit me. She was super informative and didn't pressure me to commit to purchasing anything. In fact, she even told me to go to the other shops in the area to compare equipment and pricing. Pretty ballsy but it made me feel at ease right away. I went to all the other shops and no one made me feel comfortable about being there. Very few questions and assistance. Instead it almost felt like they were uptight because I may not have looked like a typical snowboarder. Needless to say I went back to West Coast and bought the lot, about $1500 worth of equipment. Then I put it to use going up to Whistler the next four days and loved every second of it. The board (Bataleon Goliath) performed great and my feet felt perfect throughout every run. Lastly, I would've given them 5 stars but the person helping my girlfriend with her ski boots was unknowledgeable and not a very big help to her. If you do go to this place go see Jess. There was another Aussie guy behind the counter that was giving his input and helping me out as well but I didn't catch his name. Mahalo, K

I came in on a college budget hoping to pick up a used soccer ball or tennis racket to help emerge from winter hibernation and be outdoors, but the selection and prices made it so I got both! Consigners set the initial prices and get 50% back, so it's luck of the draw as to whether you'll get a good deal. Got a Dunlop racket ($33) that works like a charm, and the used tennis balls ($0.50/ea) are really worth it if you don't mind a Sharpie'd "T" on it. The soccer ball, I made the mistake of buying a lower-end Tektonik ($17) one. BIG mistake. After one use, it began cracking apart massively -- likely an issue of the ball being stale and/or overinflated. Although this is mostly the fault of a bad consigner, I was disappointed that I couldn't get anything back for it after I called and warned them about the other two they had on their shelf. Part of me is kicking myself that I didn't go for the nicer, likely better-maintained $22 Puma ball on the rack -- ended up dishing out another $25 for a new one at SoccerWest anyways. But I'm wondering whether I should sell my new ball to them when I myself have to head out of town, or whether I should go through the effort of selling it on Craigslist/Marketplace to give someone (and probably myself) peace of mind. TLDR: Know what items to buy used, and which are buyer-beware. Quality control can only go so far.

Plogging is jogging with picking up litters. We gathered quite a lot of litters and enjoyed walking with strangers. After we came back to the store, they served us nice refreshments (from neighbor bakery and coffee roasters!) and raffle for their jacket. $50 shopping voucher for all participants. What a generous gift! Repeating of pick and walk made me tired honestly but I'm glad they organized such wonderful event. I want to try next time too :)

I went in to purchase a back pack for myself today and the cashier had made a strange comment about my nationality- asking how I felt about Trump trying to take over Greenland. Not only was this comment out of pocket and inappropriate, it could've also ended poorly for the cashier who had asked it, if it had been asked to a different person. I wish she would've just scanned the tag and let me pay for my back pack instead of making me feel awkward about asking me about my political beliefs. This is the second strange interaction I've had with this cashier, hopefully 3rd times the charm.

Over the years I have bought many items from this store, and while the staff is not as friendly or helpful as the other stores, it is still good. If you are into outdoor activities like hiking and skiing, the clothes do keep you warm. Fifteen minutes, a few hundred calories, and a quick Yelp search later, I found myself standing inside of their beautiful Gastown store. First, it's hard not to be smitten by the space itself. Wood, brick, and steel seem to be Gastown staples, and this space blends the materials beautifully. At the same time though, cascading wall plants and some strategically placed trees make the space feel cozy. Factor in the ridiculously comfortable sofa near the dressing rooms, and you just might find yourself inquiring about a sublet. As for the main event, the clothing, the styles are mostly classic (with some welcome twists), the fabrics look and feel expensive, and the cuts are on the slimmer side. You can find everything from t-shirts and chinos to formal suits and sneakers (and pretty much everything in between). And the best part - the prices are actually reasonable. I have to give much deserved kudos to the wonderful staff, who made my shopping experience enjoyable from start to finish. Their patience and assistance while I seemingly tried on everything in the store was greatly appreciated. One final tidbit, make sure to enroll in their rewards program, which gives you back 4% of your in-store purchase for next-time. If you are in their store, it is most likely that you've chexked out their website already. My review is based on the customer service I received at the Gastown location. In this store, I got a blank look when I asked for helped, as if like a regular dude like me don't have clothing questions. The staff was unsure on what products were in promotion which is fine, if I was in their place I wouldnt remember either. It wasn't all that bad, but I just got a negative vibe from the staff almost as if they were lifeless and annoyed. Essentially, Frank and Oak staff in this store really need to smile and greet customers as if they like being there. No attitudes despite on shitty the day is going. The atmosphere in the place felt very snotty which does not make a good shopping experience. Regardless, I will continue to shop here and continue to ask questions so beware staff I will test your patience. I like their products and their prices are fair. Good day to you all!
