This was a very interesting little find. I grew up in southern Illinois and I never thought a place like this would or could make it. It's a very small place. It was very nice and neat to be in such an old building. We sat down and ordered, it wasn't long before our food came out. It was amazing! I went in planning on having left overs, but I was not able to stop! I ate every last bite of food. It was so delicious! So about now, you may be looking back at the number of stars on this review.. well here it is. The reason there aren't five stars... Service, service, service! The staff were all unfriendly and seemed bothered by being at work. When we paid, the owner took our money. She didn't even ask how everything was!! She was busy talking to servers about a party that was coming in. As great as the food was, I don't know that I'll make the trip back because the service and friendliness just isn't there. read more

Best landlocked seafood pasta in the Midwest as a whole. Everything was fresh as could be. The food was presented beautifully and definitely exceeded expectations for being a small mom and pop cafe size. This place is definitely worth any kind of wait you might encounter, as the food is FRESH. Located directly behind the Jackson County Courthouse, this restaurant is absolutely fabulous. Seeing as this is my first Yelp review, I can only put up 4 stars. By no means is this restaurant a 4 star (in my humble opinion). Now that doesn't mean this is a tail & tie kind of dining experience. It's just simply a great eating/food/tasting restaurant. If I HAD to complain about the food, I would ask that they cook my pizza just a bit longer as the center isn't as "done" as the outer portion is. But like I've hinted, this is way, way down on the totem pole of importance. Definitely give them a try. They've been in business for a long time for a good reason. read more

Cummare's pastas are all very good. Among my personal faves are their vegetarian lasagna, shells florentine, and cannelonis. Spaghetti and meatballs are as good as the best homemade. Their tiramisu is among the most delicious I've had anywhere (After a full dinner you night consider sharing but don't do it - get your own). We've been unimpressed by their salads, pizza and calzone. Service is generally cordial with no long waits. No atmosphere to speak of. Still, one of my favorite restaurants in the area. read more

Another fantastic meal at one of Southern Illinois' best restaurants! If you have not been it has to be on your to do list soon. We were fortunate enough to have caponata on special for starters along with a delicious caprese salad! We each ordered something different and shared, rigatoni, tortellini, lasagna and cannelloni. Their house salad and dressing is so tasty and full of flavor. The finishing touch of tiramisu is among the best you will ever sample. The service lives up to the quality of the food, attentive but not overbearing. Best Italian food in the area! Great bruschetta- but garlicky! Large portions - we shared 2 entrees with 3 people. Delicious gnocchi with marinara sauce. The stuffed shells with spinach were also great! The ricotta is really well seasoned. The mix of Alfredo sauce and marinara was yummy too! read more

Cummare's is inside a small building in downtown Murphy. The restaurant is totally packed with tables, so if there is any wait you will be on top of people who are eating. The food is very good. We have had several of the pasta dishes and they have all been great. They do try to shuffle you in and out as quickly as possible. We had dinner in under 30 minutes with quick service that was almost too quick. read more

They snagged my email without my permission when I swiped my card to pay and began sending me survey emails... if you must go, pay cash, because THEY WILL STEAL YOUR INFO AND SPAM YOUR EMAIL most good restaurants wont stoop this low, this is definitely not good enough to put up with this crap. read more

The food here is always excellent when menu ordered, but the lunch buffet sometimes is lacking - esp when my wife eats, she is a Vegetarian. Little pricey, but worth it. Sure wish they had more seating as they get full rather quickly... Keep it local! read more

I love this place. It is truly authentic and fresh. They have daily specials which are always good to try. They have wines you normally don't see in the area. They have Italian beer. They have an awesome ceasar salad. Tell them to add anchovies and you could possibly just pass out from the rush of taste. Their pizza brings back my favorite childhood place. I absolutely love the buffet special. You can dine in and eat for $8.65. Now I know that's no $5 lunch, but it includes a drink, pizza, salad, garlic bread, DELICIOUS ravioli and dessert pizza!!! Our first visit. A hole in the wall sort of place. We went in to order pasta dishes but the pie at the next table looked so good we gave in to our inner pizza demons. The pizza demons were really happy we did. The pizza was delicious , some of the best we have ever had. The service was perfect. The place was a bit drafty but c'est la vie. Growing up in St. Louis, there has always been a conspiracy to brainwash its citizens into believing that the slop served in "The Hill" is acceptable Italian food. I cringe at the years of misfire's I was forced to consume at these restaurants. As I began to travel to other cities, and eventually around Italy, I became even more jaded and frustrated with what St. Louisans were calling delicious (we won't even address the claims of authenticity). Then, on a random road trip one afternoon, Cummare's appeared. I walked in to the sight of a man feeding dough through a pasta maker. I heard people speaking Italian. I saw people eating true spaghetti with marina (that means with seafood). It was the perfect-size place to do what you know well, and to know right away when something was wrong. The food and service were fantastic, and I didn't miss Italy quite as much (or maybe 5 times more!). Now, we make the drive regularly, as I openly tell anyone who questions my two-hour drive, "Because, there is the best Italian restaurant in a 200 mile radius." read more

Love this place, have been going for years. However, today we went for the lunch buffet, which is supposed to go on until 2:00 pm. We arrived at 1:30 and the door was locked. The owner just looked at us and went about his business. I guess this restaurant isn't worried about attracting loyal customers anymore. After this treatment, we will not be back. read more

Awesome pizza. If you go around lunch time there's an all you can eat Pizza buffet. I typically don't eat thin crust pizza because I dislike it, but Cummares was a game changer... they make a really good thin crust pizza! read more
