Culver's food is pretty good. We ordered 2 three piece fish dinners. The fish was cooked well but really greasy (oily). It was delicious. Did I mention that it was really oily. The fries that came with these entrees was a small paper bag each. This seemed like less than the orders I've gotten before. Slaw was great, roll was good. Three stars is because of the oily fish and skimpy serving of fries. Espresso Toffee Bar: Culver's originated in Sauk City, WI back in 1984. When I was a doughy kid in the 90's it had expanded slightly and I have fond memories of visiting the location in nearby Wisconsin Dells while on vacation. Today, Culver's can be found in 26 states serving up their famous Butterburgers and custard. For those unfamiliar with custard, it's similar to ice cream, except it includes eggs. The eggs give custard a smooth and extra creamy texture. Espresso Toffee Bar is currently one of Culver's rotating Flavor of the Day options. This custard has a rich espresso flavor swirled with old fashioned salted caramel, crunchy bits of Heath Bar, and gooey butter cake pieces. Beginning with the espresso base, it was perfect. Texturally it was smooth and creamy with the flavor not being too intense or bitter. My dish's mix-ins were not distributed very evenly, but when I got the rare bite containing all three (caramel, Heath Bar, and cake) it was superb. If you've never had a Heath Bar, they're crunchy toffee flavored candy bars. In this case, they go well with the espresso custard. I thought the cake pieces had a predominately vanilla flavor, with a hint of butter mostly masked by the espresso custard. Really my only complaint is it could have used more caramel, which was delicious but scant. From the time I entered this Culver's, Mario, was picking up trays and cleaning up the seating area. Later, he brought out my food. Later on, he asked if everything was ok and which it was very good. What really caught my tastebuds I should say was the Sweet Tea that is being made there like some mad scientist that doesn't ever want the secret getting out. I spoke to Mario before I left to see who was the worker that made it. Mario stated it was Matt who was over in drive thru. I gave him a thumbs up and told him personally that I wished ALL the Culver's made it taste this good. It's almost close as sweet tea tastes from down south. Matt was very thankful for my compliments. I told Mario that really good sweet tea is hard to come by. Mario stated all of the Culver's are supposed to make it the same. I advised Mario that other Culver's don't make it this good. I told Mario, the Culver's DM might have to give Matt a promotion and have him be in charge of taking over the sweet tea department . We bought a kids cheeseburger meal with a dish of chocolate... and a double butter burger and Diet Coke for $18.38 and asked for extra ketchup. About a mile down the road, we realized we got no ketchup and no napkins and they forgot the kids ice cream to boot . When I called to complain, the very snotty little brat that answered the phone told me she would be glad to replace our kids ice cream. Next time. We're in the area. I told her to forget it. The garbage receptacles were literally overflowing with paper sticking out and cups/garbage on the floor in front of them. I checked the closest locations for a flavor of the day I wanted to try and found out that this Culver's had a flavor I've been wanting to try- Hershey Almond Fudge. First, let me start off by saying, if you can't eat more than two king size candy bars in one sitting, do not order any candy bar-related custards from Culver's. This Hershey Almond Fudge had so many Hershey bars in there I barely tasted the custard. I had an almost identical experience with their Snicker Swirl a few months back. I did the drive thru thing so I had a chance to make it home while the food was still warm and they screwed up everything except the custard. I ordered a fish dinner, and something felt awkward about the order. The price was about right, so I paid and waited for my food. She hands me a bag and I drive off thinking it's too light. I look into the bag and see a fish sandwich and two sides. Not good. My wife definitely wanted straight up fish, not a sandwich. I run through the drive thru again, tell the lady I got the wrong order, and she said "Did you want the two piece or something" to which I just said "Yes". Then I pulled around, and she asked if I wanted the sandwich and an extra piece, unto which I said no because I knew my wife definitely didn't want a sandwich. I will give them points for having a "customer is always right" policy. She took my bag and said that they would throw the fish on right away. This is not near the best Culvers I have ever been to. They are the most inconsistent in service and quality. Tonight's visit was one for the books! The ONLY reason we come here is because it is convenient. After today I am done going there. The sundaes were made with the softest custard I have ever seen. We ended up drinking the 2 sundaes we ordered. My husband ordered one cone in the flavor of the day and he received a chocolate cone which ended up dripping all over while we waited for them to replace the cone. It took a VERY long time just to scoop cones. Then, they are sending cars to wait in the parking lot for their food. Instead of directing them to actually park in a slot, they just parked along the side of the lot and into the driveway of the drive-thru lane. We sat there for a good 5 minutes with melting custard because we couldn't move while the staff bumbled around trying to figure out which car gets what order. Tried one of Culver's grilled chicken sandwiches for the first time. Is awful a good enough adjective? no, probably nasty is a better word. This was a terrible disappointment not only for the $5.83 it costs but no way is there anything grilled about the chicken. It's an apparently frozen chunk of chicken breast heated in the microwave while you anxiously wait for your mouthwatering chicken sandwich.
