This is my "home" Hy Vee. You can find some colorful people here. Sometimes they're even salty and…read morehard, like one of those sourdough tooth crackers that Snyder's makes. I'm going to guess they can make for tough customers. It's a pretty clean store and like all Hy Vees it's well stocked. They sell Don Javier's chips from Silvis, IL or somewhere over there by the Quad Cities. They're expensive, but they're the closest thing to the chips in a Mexican restaurant you can find. But I digress. The meat counter is good, there's no blood on floor on the customer side of the counter. The bakery same. Restaurant area ditto. I like Hy Vee's deli/restaurant but... man, the Chinese or "Hy-Chi" can be sketchy. It's not the employees' fault I'm sure. It's whatever recipes they use. Then again, it just might be Chinese food generally and it may be personal. The liquor store is great. You want booze, you got booze. This keeps the hard pretzel people I mentioned earlier happy. The staff is top notch. There's a really friendly woman who works here that is from Bosnia. She's got a clipped accent and based on what I saw I think she knows her regulars. I think working here probably requires a thick skin because you've got a mix of the Kirkwood students, the NewBo neighborhood (I assume - because that Hy Vee just north of down town - shuddering - it's a lil rough), and the pretzelish people mentioned above. Almost every time I got here I'm with my love which means I'm going to ask her loud enough for the cashier to hear what her name is today. Or whether she is using the credit card we found on the street the other day. Or if she can sign for the pseudo this time because I'm at my limit this time. Or "hurry up - I can see a cop and the Judge warned us what would happen if we broke the restraining order". Or the always reliable, "please don't hit me when we get out to the car - I'll be good". Granted sometimes the staff is dumbstruck, but most of the time they just smile and/or laugh and enjoy the drama. This is a good place to shop. Tell them Dick sent you.

The employees here are always very kind. The store is clean and I've never had issues when I need…read moreto replace something or return something. They also have a nice Starbucks. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 is some of their prices are a little high at times and the wine and spirits is not as good as other Hy-Vees. For convenience and availability of items I really like going here.

This place is just wonderful! If you are looking for…read moresomething local, organic, sugar free, low carb, grass fed, free range or preservative free, they probably have it at New Pi! Honestly, I come here specifically for my Vital Farms eggs but always end up walking around for an hour looking at everything. They have a little bit of everything here! I follow a keto lifestyle and I can find Prymal Kitchen sauces and lily's chocolate chips and peanut butter cups at this store. The prices are really not any higher than you might expect from specialty items and I truly do believe that you get exactly what you pay for. On top of all this goodness, the staff are just wonderful. If you have a question, they have an answer and will help you with anything! Last time I visited, I needed to know the nutrition facts for the on tap kombucha that they were serving. I asked a young lady and she helped me without hesitation. They also have fresh cold brew on tap as well! How fun is that?! If you want to go on a fun little adventure, head to New Pi Co-Op in Cedar Rapids! You are bound to find something that you never knew you needed!

Always enjoy NewPi! Don't forget their sandwiches. I used to get papaguyo hot sandwich often in…read moreIowa City when I lived there. I ordered it from the CR location recently and it was pretty tasty. I remember it being spicier though and wish it had a little more kick but overall great sandwich. I walked over while my car was getting an oil change around noon on a Friday. Large parking lot,…read moreeasy access from Blairs Ferry road. Right when you walk in you are met with a large selection of produce, ALL of which is certified organic; most of it looked nice and fresh, a few wrinkled zucchini and peppers. Prices about average for organic produce. I walked in with an empty plastic water bottle hoping for a place to recycle it, but they don't have on site recycling for customers. Their selection of vitamins and supplements is insane!! It almost felt like a GNC in that part! I like how there are signs at the top of the aisles clearly marking where things were in this section, made it easy to find homeopathic allergy remedies. Right next to the supplements is their also impressive personal care section. They have such a selection of soaps, facial care, even make-up! I found different scents of soaps I already use, which was fun! I will definitely be back just because of that! Have a pet food section, toiletries, water, juices and other beverages....Not a large frozen section, but enough of the staples. They do have some bulk spices and nuts, but they are all pre-portioned in bags. They do not have a meat/chicken/seafood counter...Everything is packaged either refrigerated or frozen. Overall, a good experience...Get some on-site recycling please!!

They cant seem to keep their frozen strawberries in stock. Great organic produce but their prices…read morefor these are the highest in town! Stick to their supplements & bagged grains & get everything else at New Pi or elsewhere.
