A picture of said backyard patio.

I first came here with my family on a trip to our grandparents house. This shop is a local gem, with the most hospitable staff I've ever met. The food is amazing too, with a large selection of wines and sandwiches. They let us eat food from a different restaurant in their backyard patio. If you are in the area, or just want a nice day in Baltimore, then come down to this amazing store for yourself!

If you're a foodie, Culinary Architecture is worth a visit. Located in Pigtown (an area worth exploring), this market has interesting finds from pastries like roasted grape and cheese danishes to a shelf of hot sauces. The bakery is in the front with frozen goods in the back and dry goods in between. If they don't have it, ask the friendly workers and they'll let you know if they plan to carry it. They can't be stumped!

Culinary Architecture is a true gem in Washington Village. A gourmet grocery store/ deli that promotes function, conservation, and high-quality goods crafted by makers from around the world. Sylvia (one of the owners) always provides amazing recommendations, customer service and overall a blessing to the community. She even gave me a reusable grocery bag for my shopping. The food selection is definitely out of my comfort level, but I always enjoy my purchase. Sylvia put me on the rosemary lamb sausage, highly recommend if you are a lamb lover like myself. I love the honey and cheese selections as well. They carry my favorite ice cream brand, Jeni's. When you visit DO NOT park at the dollar general parking lot or you will be towed!

I was introduced to Culinary Archetecture and Silva who runs the store. By the myriad of treats, sauces, fancy ingredients (yes, saffron) and some amazing treats, you know you've come to the right place to discuss recipes and to buy. I sampled a cakey buttery madeleine with a surprise chocolate mousse filling. Going through the contents of the store could take days. Ask Silva about how to use various sauces and ingredients. She caters and knows tons of recipes. Come here for the odd ingredient you may not find anywhere else.

What a gem! The owner was personable, friendly, & knowledgeable about speciality foods. There were so many unique products from around the world (as well as around the corner) and I could have spent hours here. She recommended a local creamery plant based ice cream, Cajou, & it was the best I've ever tasted. Highly recommend stopping in!

This place is such a cool find! I can't believe I haven't stopped by here before. I got a biscuit and cookie to go. I got the vegetarian biscuit with hummus, cucumbers, and feta cheese. It was so big and so delicious. There was a ton of hummus on it (which is a good thing in my opinion since I love hummus). I had a hard time picking a dessert because all the options looked amazing. I ended up going with the oatmeal cookie. It was crunchy on the outside, and gooey on the inside. The owner was also very friendly. She greeted us when we came in, and told us a lot about the food. I will definitely be back again to try more food!

Personable staff, quality selection and unique. Something for everyone especially if you have a bit of taste and class.

Very excited to have Culinary Architecture join the cadre of great businesses in Pigtown! If you are in Baltimore and have not ventured into Southwest Baltimore and explored Pigtown, here is the perfect excuse!! This is quality you'd expect at Baltimore's best foodie hangouts at half the price! Silva and Piper have created masterpiece of a deli café market. Culinary Architecture is small but packed with fantastic baked goods, fresh foods, pickled delights, and a rotating menu of truly fantastic culinary creations. My husband and I today had pork Po'boys, sausage roll, chocolate cookie nd ginger beer for lunch. At $29, the quality exceeded our expectations and was truly a great value. Seriously. No questions asked. Remington and Hamden food scenes need to watch out because Culinary Architecture is putting Pigtown on the map!

This place is amazing! Everything so wholesome, fresh, from scratch and unique. Such a quaint and homey feel like I'm in a chef's pantry. The owner is always so nice and extremely helpful with recommendations regarding the menu as well as the different items for sale in the store such as the different cultural sauces. 10/10 recommend :)

Cannot recommend their catering highly enough. Delicious, and very creative in accommodating dietary restrictions. Will be ordering again.

She responded to my questions quickly and was always willing to adjust our invoices or provide recommendations. They are also the most affordable company I've found in the DC area. On site, the catering team went above and beyond to ensure our events went seamlessly. I have never had guests compliment the staff and the menu as much as they did with St. Germain! As the event coordinator, I appreciated that Ceecho, Donal, and Johnny checked in with me throughout the event, quickly adjusted to the schedule changes, and were efficient and helpful throughout the set up and tear down process. From start to finish, everything was handled with professionalism, attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to making the night special. The food was absolutely outstanding--beautifully presented and full of flavor. Multiple guests went out of their way to comment on how delicious everything was, and several even asked for the caterer's name afterward. It really elevated the entire event. What truly stood out, though, was the service. The servers were exceptional--friendly, attentive, and incredibly efficient. They made sure guests were taken care of without ever being intrusive, and their positive energy added to the overall atmosphere of the party. Shout out to Mauricio and Wilberth!!! Great job guys. Saint Germain Catering played a huge role in making the evening a success, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to host a memorable event. We'll definitely be using them again in the future. -Mike

The Classic Catering People - Treats!

    The Classic Catering People

    (44 reviews)

We used Classic to cater our wedding. To be honest, we feel a bit mixed about the experience. TLDR:…read morewe wound up giving four stars because although our bar situation was a disaster, food is more important and the food was better than most other wedding food. The food - as foodies, we felt like Classic gave us very good wedding food (but it fell short of very good restaurant food). During our tasting, we were pretty blown away by the food -- all the flavors were excellent and all the food was perfectly cooked. Day of, a lot of the food was overcooked, and things were under sauced, so we missed a lot of the flavors from our tasting. The food was certainly better than most other weddings I've been to, but if I would have gotten the food at a restaurant I would have been disappointed. I know it's really difficult to cook in bulk. (FWIW though, people really loved the mashed potatoes -- and were still talking about them a week later.) We were also extremely pleased with how Classic handled dietary restrictions. We had a number of people with restrictions, and everyone was able to eat, and no one got sick. They even worked with us to make our whole menu gluten free so that all of our (many) celiac guests could partake. The drinks - our drinks were a disaster. And I think part of this is because our catering manager switched just a few months before the wedding. Our original catering manager had allowed us to create our own cocktail recipes. We love mixology so it felt very fitting for our wedding. We wanted our wedding to feel like a cocktail bar and not just have the standard wedding cocktail. However, our new catering manager pretty much lost her mind when she heard this, saying it's never done. Our conversations were weird, and we never figured out what the issues were so we assumed it was reluctance to do something different and thought they'd figure it out. However, it seems the issues were the bartenders can barely make a drink. Although we sent VERY specific recipes, i think only one of the bartenders followed them. The first drink I was given when I came down to my cocktail hour was supposed to be a lavender chamomile play on a French 75. But what I was actually given was lemon juice, soda, and gin. I literally spit it out, and had a mild panic attack that my guests were being served undrinkable drinks for our whole cocktail hour. It turns out, that only one bartender was making undrinkable drinks (and they continued to for most of the evening). Another one was making ok drinks, and one was making drinks correctly. No one could remember which bartender was making which drinks, so everyone remarked how inconsistent our drinks were. A number of times people had to toss drinks because they picked the wrong bartender. I was also pretty pissed that although we had confirmed with our planner and classic a half a dozen times that they would pass drinks during cocktail hour, they never did. Afterwards my planner said it was because the drinks were too complicated. But they could have passed wine, or beer, or prebatched drinks (which we thought they were doing). We really didn't want a line at the bar, and there was one, so a month later, I'm still fuming about the disaster that was the bar. I think had we had more time, or better communication from the new catering manager, we could have worked something out that would have worked for us and them. But, instead, trying not to piss us off, I think she gave in knowing they couldn't hold up their end of the bargain. The service - the service (aside from the bar and our catering manager) was good. All the catering staff were very kind, and rushed like crazy to finish our room flip. We appreciated that they designate one server just for the bride and groom! The process - Our process was a bit of a mess because of the catering manager flip. But, were it not for that, I think it would have gone pretty smoothly. Classic are def pros at putting on events. We were happy with the process before the switch. Afterwards, we didn't really jive with the new catering manager, who was much more rigid than the original one. We might have been less off put by this, but, she also wasn't great at communicating the reasons behind her "nos" or "yes, with reservations". Our planner had told us that your classic experience very much depends on your catering manager, and based on our experience with two of them, that seems accurate.

We had an amazing experience working with The Classic Catering People!
