Thankfully, the husband-and-wife duo who run the B&B suggested we come to this town. Piñones turned out to be everything we didn't know we needed: a strip of restaurants lining both sides of the road and endless miles of beach. My husband and I immediately kicked ourselves for not thinking of coming here earlier. You've heard of bar hopping? Well, in Piñones, it's restaurant and kiosk hopping. There are kiosks with the Puerto Rican fried staples: bacalaitos, alcapurrias, pastelillos as well as full-meal sit-down restaurants to get your spread. You want octopus too? There's ensalada de pulpo and if you need to wash it all down, grab a cold one or a natural juice like Tamarindo, Passion Fruit or Cherry. This town isn't some polished, Instagram-perfect tourist trap- this is Puerto Rican coastal street food in its raw, beautiful form.

We grabbed a taxi van and he ended up serving as a tour guide to us, which he was happy to do. He took us to a few different places with pleasure. At the last stop he had picked up his son and drove us around with no problem. I really loved he was so personable. In Vieques you see horses all around, which was so beautiful; we really enjoyed that. We went to two beaches. We loved the second one, which was Playa Caracas. The sand was so white, and soft. The water waves were calm and warm. We had so much fun and made some friends while in the water. We ended up trading up drinks. The road is way better now, many golf cars would be able to go there if isn't raining. The Vieques National Fish and Wildlife is open from Monday to Friday from 3 PM to 6:30 PM. Other attractions you might like to visit is Ceiba Tree, Mosquito Pier, Light houses, Los Chivos street View, you get to see both side the north and the south of the island from the middle of the island. Fuerte Conde de Mirasol (fort) is currently closed (waiting to get fix since H.María...) The Isabel Segunda, the main town usually is busy during the weekdays. Please, use the mask if you will be close to people, beaches are open for recreational use but the government is enforcing not to drink alcohol on the beach. Sitting about 1,500 feet above the island on St. Peter Mountain, the place delivers one of the best views anywhere on Saint Thomas. From the overlook you're staring straight down at the famous curve of Magens Bay, with islands sprinkled across the bright blue Caribbean like someone tossed jewels across the water. But let's be honest people also come here for the banana daiquiri. They'll tell you they've served more than seven million since the drink was first made here in the 1950s... though after watching the blender go nonstop, I'm guessing the number is probably closer to ten million by now. It's a fun stop for souvenirs, a laugh, and a cold drink with a world-class view. Sure, there are other reasons to come up here but nothing beats a good daiquiri. Salute.

La Mina requires quite a trek down and back up, while La Coca is right off the main road. You can stop and take photos of La Coca from afar, or hike up to it and get sprayed by the refreshing mists of the falls. La Coca is much more powerful a waterfall than La Mina also, and many people hike right up the side of the falls and right up to the face of it. You can't get all the way into the falls, but you also don't have to hike down the "challenging" trail that La Mina requires, and then hike back up (double as hard!) Both falls have their benefits and drawbacks, but overall I definitely preferred La Coca.

It's helpful at e beginning of a trip to get the layout, or a bit in to have a bird's eye view of some of the places you've been. There are about 15 parking spaces and I've seen the lot get too filled with your buses to get into, or to want to get into, during the busy part of the day. But outside peak hours, you can pretty much have the spot to yourself. It's a very quick drive from Drake's seat, which provides a similar overlook on the other side of the island, basically on the same ridge looking down to the north. There's no charge. There are some doors that might be restrooms, but they aren't open all the time, so I'm not sure, and as far as I saw there were no services available.

The parking situation sucks, but if you come closer to sunset the cruise ship passengers will all be back on their ships leaving the area empty. So we parked about a 5 minute walk up the road and it was no problem. We hiked in and it was wet, so your shoes will get dirty. It wasn't too far to the first small waterfall and swimming area. It wasn't that deep as the water didn't go past my chest. We spent most of our time here and tried to find the second falls up the way, but got lost and went the wrong direction, way up high. Even so, it was a great hike and a torrential downpour started when we were on our way down. It made it fun as it was a good challenge. We stopped again at the first falls for more swimming and pictures. All in all, we spent about an hour here.

Colorful cement houses with some only partially built or partially remaining after previous hurricane damage. It's an interesting contrast to the beautiful historic buildings of Old San Juan that it bumps up against with a several hundred year old wall separating them. There are a few bars along the main road thru La Perla, but it's not very safe for tourists as night. It would be much wiser to go to the bars in Old San Juan only a block or two away.

Some more info about this spot/Place- this spot is on Route 187 between Isla Verde and the Rio Grande. means - if you are planning to Visit Playa Flamenco (which is a Must do- cause it is one of the top beaches in the world) and if you are coming back to San Juan to catch a flight then I would suggest taking this route 187. a couple of reasons for this- 1) Pinones area which is famous for its street/roadside small/decent food joint - you don't wanna miss if you are a foodie 2) Scenic Route 3) You wanna save money on toll skipping Route-66 (no sense paying rental company for its transponder and $10/day)
