The noodle soups are authentic and delicious, and the serving size more than generous (seriously you can share one bowl between two people). The dumplings are a little expensive, compared to what you'll get in other cities, but for the GC they are delicious and plentiful. You definitely won't go hungry! They also serve up sweet dishes such as custard tarts, silken tofu in a sweet ginger syrup and other Chinese cakes and pastries. Service is as per a lot of Chinese restaurants where speed and efficiency is priority and western mannerisms/politeness is second. However, it gets the job done, u do get what u want, and (usually) with a smile. In terms of yum cha on the Gold Coast / Brisbane area, I'm sure there're probably many of other "better" places, however in terms of consistency, I don't think many of those places can keep pace. I believe it is better doing something good all the time rather than something amazing only sometimes, especially when u are taking friends/family out for a decent feed. On the weekends it tends to get crazy busy, so if u decide to try, remember to come early (like 1200), otherwise expect to wait for a table. It is a decent location; not on the beach but accessible and near other useful things. Their menu is vegetarian; it also has separate sections to denote the minority of non-vegan items. I will occasionally get a nice tea or other drink from them, but the highlights of my visits have been food. I am not a big fake meat person, but they do a good enough job of integrating them in that I will eat the various strange products that pop up in their dishes. Their ma po tofu is still probably the best rendition I've had in Australia, and the ground fake meat and black pepper give it a desirable heartiness. I was also impressed with their rich curry laksa, and their dumplings and smaller soups are great appetizers. Guess we can't expect too much since it's only $1! We liked everything we ordered and the servers were friendly. Just remember that this is a casual Chinese restaurant, not a Michelin star restaurant so don't expect a super attentive service and servers that go above and beyond.
