I received a compliment the other day for my first review here. In it, the gentleman was telling me he really enjoyed the tableside guacamole. Whaaaat?? How did I not know this was a possibility? Have I been living in a cave? This travesty of justice must be remedied immediately! So, the very next day I dragged hubby out for some. Okay, I didn't drag him.... I cannot physically make a 220 pound German do anything he doesn't want to, but as usual, I digress... As soon as we were seated and our waiter approached, I blurted out "tableside guac, por favor". Next thing I know, a cart is being wheeled over to us with a molcajete, avocado, salt, lime, cilantro, onion and tomato. We were asked if we wanted it spicy. Yes, please. A few moments later a delightful mound of yummy goodness was placed between us. My arms are shorter, so I moved it closer to me. :) Dear Guacamole Overlord, was this stuff ever FAB! It was chunky and smooth all at the same time. It was a little piece of heaven in a molcajete! I think I found my new best friend in the maker of this glorious stuff! I even convinced the people next to us to order it too. However, they complained it tasted "too much like avocado". Really? Okay..... But to hubby and me, it was so wonderful that we went again the next day. But want to know what makes it even better?? It is less that $4!! So I think next time I may need to order a his and hers batch. That way I don't have to share. When it comes to food I enjoy, I sometimes don't play well with others. read more

Went on July 4th as options were limited and it was close to the hotel I was staying at in Mt. Juliet. Waited for a while to be seated, but seeing as it was the only Mexican restaurant open that day, it was a fair wait. Plenty of menu options, great prices on meals and drink specials. My Gringa Quesadilla was really, really good. So bold and bustling with a variety of flavor. The "small" margarita I had was also phenomenal, done just right. At $24 out the door for two people and a drink, I cannot complain. I would certainly come back if I visit the area in the future. read more

I visited Los Compadres a few weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon during happy hour. As has become my custom when planning to write a Yelp review, I ordered gluttonously in the name of "variety." I took several pictures which accompany this review, and as you can easily tell from them, the ambience is great. I'm something of a margarita snob, having both lived in California and gotten pretty good at making them on my own. I thought Los Compadres did a pretty decent job with their house margaritas. Many other places in Nashville (Las Palmas, I'm looking at you) tend to use a Chernobyl green mix that's got way too much artificial stuff in it, and the result is something far from authentic. Los Compadres clearly is using a mix, too, but it's more toned down which lets the tequila flavor come through. In a nutshell, it's decent albeit not spectacular. On the rocks is definitely the way to go versus frozen. Of note, they do have a half dozen top shelf margaritas, and while you pay a premium for these options, they look very enticing. The house salsa is actually quite good. As other reviewers have noted, it has a little bit more kick than your average Mexican restaurant salsa, and as a spice lover, I liked that. It's definitely more of the puree style, which depending on your tastes may or may not be a good thing. Regardless, my fat arse managed to suck down 3 bowls of the stuff by myself, in addition to everything else I ate, so you know they were doing something right. I started off with the "Tacos Autenticos" from the appetizer menu, getting one with chorizo and one with carnitas. At $2.50 a pop, they aren't cheap, but as you can see from the picture, all the accompaniments make for a nice presentation. The roasted jalapeño in particular is a nice touch. The taste didn't disappoint, with the quality of the meat shining through. For my main course, I tried the Chile Colorado along with an a la carte enchilada with ground beef. The enchilada was small and nothing to write home about, although for $2 I got pretty much what I expected. As for the Chile Colorado, it was a very healthy portion of beef (to the point that I took half my entree home with me). Here again, I feel the need to qualify my snobbery: in California, I've eaten to-die-for colorado sauce. Unfortunately, Los Compadres couldn't quite match up, although the flavor was decent. Relative to other Mexican restaurants in the area, Los Compadres isn't cheap. Now, it's possible some of that may be chalked up to larger portion sizes--a distinct possibility if my Chile Colorado is indicative. And if the quality is above average, it still might be a decent value. Overall, my experience was a positive one, so I intend to go back at some point and order some more things to write a follow-up review. read more

The service was fast and excellent and the ambiance was nice. I ordered a Margarita and it was solidly average. I wanted to order queso but both options were spicy and my husband doesn't like spice so we skipped appetizers. The food was fine. I had enchiladas supremas and my husband ordered the carnitas. His carnitas were surprisingly dry. My enchiladas were good but not amazing. The portions were plentiful. I wouldn't avoid the place but I'm unlikely to go out of my to go back either. It was very toddler friendly and even had one of those rides that costs a few quarters. read more

Decent food here. You might not care for the seemingly lackadaisical service. The waitress seemed baffled that we asked for the drink special. She said there wasn't one. We pointed out the piece of paper PERMANENTLY stuck under the glass covering the table and on display constantly. She said she'd have to "check to see if we could be offered that". Came back later on with our drink orders. Funny shaped glasses look cool, but reduce the amount of liquid that can be poured into them. Small portion for the price. Overall, decent food, slightly higher priced, but we would come back for the eats, not for the drinks or service. read more

Cobwebs on the decorations are usually a red flag. Went in to have lunch and ordered the guacamole. It was brown...not fresh, actually didn't taste like anything. The entree was tasty but I am not sure it's what I ordered? I asked for a fajita quesadilla and I got a grilled tortilla stuffed with chicken and cheese like a burrito. My wife's taco salad had no salad in it. Two stars because the place itself is actually nice and if they cleaned it up it might have been a different story. read more

First time here and I was pleasantly surprised. Used a local flavor certificate which helps bc it's the most expensive casual Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. Is it worth it? I'm inclined to say yes. Salsa was the best I have ever had in a restaurant. I would buy it if they sold it in jars. Cheese dip was also killer. Fajitas were great. There were not any huge pieces of steak in it however what was there was at the highest quality and very tender. The tortillas are not homemade which is a mild negative and I had to send the original pack back because they were hard. No big deal they brought me a fresh pack. my son had the tacos and enchiladas. Very tasty but nothing out of the ordinary. I do recommend you do not to pay the extra dollar for cheese sauce instead of red sauce. It's nice that they give you so much cheese sauce since you're paying for it, but it was about five times too much. You couldn't even see the enchiladas and they were definitely mushy from all the cheese sauce. Our server was excellent and I will ask for him next time. Service was also very fast and ironically when the server brought our food, he said sorry for the delay, which I laughed and said what delay this is the fastest I've been served in the Mexican restaurant restaurant in years.overall, a very pleasant experience with great service and great food. We have tried several Mexican restaurants in the area and this one is by far the best. I got the grilled chicken, jalapeño cheese, and rice dish. It came out hot and it was a very nice portion. My girlfriend got enchiladas and she said they were awesome. This will definitely be our go to Mexican restaurant when we have the craving, which is often! read more

Then the order was completely wrong after going through it with them several times. We paid $55 for a bag of garbage. Everything in the bag was much cheaper than what I ordered. Look like kids meals. I didn't love it to death. Even though there were many open tables, it took about 10-15 minutes for the lady who seemed like a hostess, cashier and chips and salsa server to seat us. No apologies. She could have used some help. We almost left. I ordered the basic bean burrito and cheese enchilada. The quesadilla was a little chewy and hard to cut. All the cheese was in the middle so there was not point in eating the ends. Sigh. I hate when things aren't evenly distributed. My son order chicken and cheese nachos and complained there wasn't enough queso. It appeared to be more shredded cheese that hadn't quite melted. My husband had 3 tacos which is kinda hard, or should be hard, to screw up. The environment was nice and fitting. They really did a good job on the decor. The seating is very comfortable. They are like barrels turned into comfy chairs. Don't bother with margaritas. Waste of money. More mix than tequila. So sick of that in Mexican restaurants! I feel like this is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Mt. Juliet, when you factor in the food and ambiance. They recently added a nice covered patio at Los Compadres which really gave it a nice face lift. The food has always been really good every time we go. The fajitas are different then the other Mexican places around town because they use assorted peppers and not just green peppers. It really adds to the flavor profile of the fajitas. This place is perfectly fine. Nothing that blew me away, but nothing that particularly annoyed me either. The menu is basically the same as any other Mexican place and the prices are comparable as well. It looks slightly nicer than your average mexican restaurant but a lot of that is probably because it's relatively new. On my visit our waitress was very nice and efficient, but she didn't speak English very well which led to us having to explain some things. Not a big deal. The cheese dip was too thick but still had a good taste. The salsa was just ok. Had too much of a smokey flavor for my liking. The chicken fajitas were ok too, but still not as good as Cinco de Mayo's. The waitress brought us our check and we ended up waiting at the table for her to come back for a bout 20 minutes before we realized we were supposed to take it up front ourselves. Doh! The patio looks pretty festive so perhaps I'll meet some of my Mt. Juliet friends out one evening for a margarita. They aren't open very late, though. Ok, so Mexican food can be like Chinese food---pretty much tastes the same. I believe this restaurant is different because it tastes so good! Not to mention,they carry El Yucatan Habenero Sauce on the table, so that in itself is a plus for me. The salsa that comes when you sit down is actually spicy, and I'm pretty sure it is fresh. The decor is definitely unique (as most Mexican restaurants), but they've got the nifty wooden hand made looking stools. The drinks? Well, let's just say that I believe the bartender is very generous. I usually get the Margarona (A margarita, with a coronita dumped upside down into it), and by the 2nd one, I am usually feeling Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! My favorite which I cannot remember the name,I just know that it's on the first page when you open the menu and it's in the bottom right hand corner (which is a very plain plate) is the tacos with your choice of meat (I get the steak or carnitas), served in a corn tortilla and onions and cilantro. They've got some charro beans that are quite good, and service is, in my opinion, decent. I live in Hermitage, and do not mind driving down a few more miles to come to this Mexican Restaurant because the ones I have been to in Hermitage do not tickle my fancy like this one does. I was hoping for acceptable. I got MUCH more. First--I think there might've been some mix in my margarita. Maybe. They are definitely not stingy with the tequila! The straw in my margarita goblet was a "huh??" moment, but still. The salsa does, indeed, have some heat. I didn't think the chips were too thin, esp. since the salsa is on the smooth side (as opposed to pico de gallo). I got the chilaquiles, husband got the tacos al pastor. My chilaquiles were different, seemed as if they were assembled on the plate as opposed to the casserole I'm used to; but they were delicious. I think I just really like what Mexican cuisine does with eggs! They came with a little bit of guacamole, which was very good; if I hadn't been saving room for dessert, it would have disappeared. Husband's tacos came with CHARRO BEANS. I got one bite, and they were fabulous. They even had hot dogs in them (don't laugh! All the good charro beans I've ever had, had hot dogs in them). It came with the usual pico de gallo, plus a grilled cebollita and jalapeno to add to the taco. I didn't taste, but they looked great. The flan...sigh. I really don't think it was mass produced out of a plastic cup. And the presentation was so pretty! Instead of a puddle of caramel sauce (not that there's anything wrong with a puddle of caramel sauce, yum), the caramel sauce was drawn on the plate in loops; and the loops were filled with chocolate sauce and strawberry sauce. Yeah, this place definitely puts some effort into it! Ok, here are the minuses: the chair seats are comfy, but the "barrel" theme with the filled in bottom, which means you can't tuck your legs underneath. Umm..yeah, that's about the worst I can say. Went there for the first time today. We were very please with the service and the lunch buffet. Sunday buffet ends at 3pm.....it was $8.99 and the best part is that our 4 kids all 6 and under ate for free! How cool is that?! I think that kids 11 and under eat for free. There was a good variety of foods on the buffet and we even got to eat dessert! The only thing not included in the buffet price is your drink. Overall, the service was good. Our server was very nice as was the owner's brother who was also very friendly. :) The decor on the inside and out was very Mexican Hacienda-ish and we look forward to coming back at night to enjoy the outdoor lighting atmosphere and the other items on the menu. will def. be coming back again! read more

I don't like posting negative reviews, but I feel that this is warranted. The only reason it gets two stars is because the decor was wonderful and the food wasn't awful. The service, however, is another story. Despite being two of the only people in the restaurant, our drinks, chips, and salsa were never refilled. In fact, we only saw our waitress again when she brought the check. There was a strange smell in the restaurant, the music was turned off, and there were other angry customers besides ourselves. We are very happy we tried Los Compadres... we have been 2 or 3 times now and find it to be the best mexican around Mt Juliet, Hermitage... and we have tried all of them. Fajitas, tamales, tacos, quesadillas, chimichangas, etc. We have tried a lot of things and like them all... Only thing I am not fond of is the salsa; they put pepper in it and I don't really like the pepper... everything else is great. Decore, chairs, staff... all excellent. read more

I can say that this is definately tops in Mexican food for Hermitage/Mt Juliet. The menu offers diverse Mexican entre's that aren't just your "run of the mill" Mexican resaurant menu items with numbers 1 thru 72 combo meals. Not that they don't have that too... The place is clean and new. You can order fresh taco plates or Fajita's that are covered in cheese w/bacon... (yes, that's what sold me) They have a hot sauce, which I'm sure has a name, that they make in-house and it kicks arss. Again, if you want a Mexican resaurant with a little different flair, this is it. Some folks on here complained about the service but honestly, I've been here probably ten times and the service is always good. They love kids, my three yr old has a ball... I have recommended Los Compadres to several friends and they have all gone back many times... read more

I came in there today and placed an $82.00 carry out order. The lady gave me the bags and said it is all here. Who am I to doubt that she checked the order, bagged up the food and tied the individual bags up. I go on my way home, 45 minutes away. I get home and there are two regular tacos, three specialty tacos, an order of rice, and an order of retried beans missing. I get it, things happen. I will just call the restaurant and ask for a refund on the missing items. I call and spoke to a lady. She refused to give me a refund. I told her I was not driving 45 minutes back there and 45 minutes back home to get the missing items. I again asked for a refund on the missing items. No refund. read more

We were served room temperature raw oysters without cocktail sauce and horseradish. Restaurant was completely out. It took an hour for them to prepare fajitas. I would understand if restaurant was busy but they weren't. I had to ask for fajitas and they brought them out immediately cold. We left disappointed by the food and inattentive service. FINALLY. A Mexican restaurant that serves tacos al pastor! Why is this so hard to find in Nashville? Sheesh. And it's excellent! I am surrounded by Mexican restaurants out here in Mt Juliet and even though I love them all equally, Los Compadres (because of the tacos al pastor) has my heart at the moment. They've got a friendly wait staff, a great bar that doesn't skimp on the tequila, and unfortunately, a novel for a menu (but there are a lot of great options to choose from, namely, the tacos al pastor.) The salsa is actually palatable and spicy. My only issue was with the wait staff. There were three people waiting on us (why three? I have no idea!) and I was a little confused as to who to give my order to. Also, if you're a server, make sure you get everyone's drink order and not just the one person you're talking to! Overall, fairly good food, good service, great atmosphere. I'd go again. Maybe I'll go tonight! read more

Decided to try a different Mexican restaurant, and what a mistake to try this one. Service was horrible and still is as we sit here and wait for our waiter to get 1 thing right. We had to flag someone down when we got seated just too order drinks. It took at least 5 mi nutes to get chips. We had to wait over 1p minutes to get our cheese dip. We had simple combo orders like beef taco, chile relanos, spinach encilada and nothing came out right. Drinks sat empty until we asked for refils. Go elsewhere, there are plenty of good Mexican restaurants but this one is not one of them. read more

My wife and I order the same thing every Sunday, which is tableside guacamole and tacos authentico. They also have kick ass margaritas and offer triple size beers. We went to Los Comprades for the Sunday Brunch Buffet, the Bar was Out of some foods when I first got there at 1415, and so not well kept up, but We eventually got what We were After. The Food is Great, but Service is Hit or Miss and today was a Miss. I sat while My went and got Her Food and then We BOTH Finally got Our Drinks and Chips and Salsa. The Food is Great, so the service effects the Server's Tip which because of average Service average Tip. This Buffet is Great for Families so is very Noisy and the music to Loud, but even if That the Food is Worth the visit. read more

I can't believe this has only 3 stars. We moved to the Myt Juliet area last year and are so glad we found this place. We love Mexican but are pretty particular. The ambiance is nicest of any in the area. Margaritas are wonderful. And they have a few dishes you don't find in the other Mexican restaurants. Staff is great. Give it a try. read more

So, went to Los Compadres for dinner on my birthday. The server overheard me talking about it to my family. She asked, is it your birthday and I said yes. Next thing I knew they were bringing a pink sombrero for me to wear. One would expect singing to ensue but not here! I got whipped cream in the face and it was rubbed in my face many times over. After the utter shock, I was able to laugh about it but I wouldn't recommend telling anyone that it's your birthday. I'm surprised this hasn't started a fight or someone not coming back to the restaurant ever again. We were told that it's a common practice there to shove whipped cream in someone's face for their birthday. I'm still stunned! The food was good and I may go back but never for my birthday!! read more

The food that they serve is nothing less than their best. I love Hispanic food but have known to be very picky about the things I love. Not once have I ever had a bad thing to say about their food, hospitality, or their atmosphere. The staff is always wonderful and very attentive. Their spirits are vast and mixed drinks strong. This is a great place for a get together or even a quick place to grab lunch before heading back into work. Once this place was introduced to me I have taken almost all of my friends here at least once on our nights out. Would always refer to anyone looking to have a good time and some good food. read more

Normally I can give a place a semi-good review If they are busy. I understand how busy restaurants work. This place was not too busy last night and our waitress was not very attentive. Aside from that, the food was terrible. I literally threw up my entire dish when I got home. I was not sick before I got there and felt better after it was out of my belly. It's rare when I vomit after a meal. It was not an appetizing dish for one thing and the salsa just tasted like tomato paste. I will not be returning. I know what good Mexican food is and this is not it! You gotta go to Texas for the real thing! I'm new to Tennessee and I will continue to search for good Mexican food. You let me down Los Compadres!
