We have 5 small children 10yo and under. My husband brought us for dinner one night & I was a little nervous because the ambiance is more upscale & you just never know how it's going to be with young kids. Right away we were welcomed and seated. Our two servers were attentive to us and joked around & laughed with our kids. They both commented to us more than once that we have a beautiful family. We felt so comfortable right away & it made for a very pleasant evening. The food at Memo's is unlike any Mexican food I have tried before. It was delicious, authentic, & unique. We tried the mole sauce (my first time ever trying it!!) over chicken enchiladas. It was earthy, sweet, & complex. I feel like I crave this sauce now! I've never had anything like it. Our kids enjoyed Memo's version of chicken, cheese, & rice. They really enjoyed it! The portions are a little small overall, but we all left satisfied. They use fresh local ingredients, also serving fresh daily made salsa and made to order Guacamole. They have weekly chef's specials and offer Huevos Rancheros, apps, Birria, Enchiladas,Street Tacos, Torta, Huaraches, Classic Dishes, Desserts, Kids menu and more. We returned to Memo's for the umpteen time for a most enjoyable family meal. Hosts are co-owners Guillermo Murillo (Memo) in the kitchen and wife Katie up front. Warm, friendly and attentive service. We enjoyed appetizer of Guacamole Authentico (don't miss). Entrees were Chile Verde with rice and beans and flour tortillas, Steak Frjita, and Cheese Enchiladas Suizas. Their best "Best Darn Margarita" is made to order and authentic. Definitely not the Same Old, Same Old Mexican food. Daily specials are offered. The food was very salty and very overpriced. I got a burrito and an iced tea and it was $22 at lunch before tip. There were no rice and beans or anything, just the plain burrito. I was expecting at least a good portion for that price. The beverage options are awful also. No fountain coke or Diet Coke. Diet Pepsi on the fountain and Coke in a bottle. The place was totally empty and I can see why. The server was very nice But the food was so underwhelming and crazy expensive for lunch. I could eat at any Mexican place in Mt. Juliet for almost $10 cheaper and get more food and much better taste. I would not waste your time here. read more

This place is like a rose in the desert. I don't mean to offend, but TN just doesn't do good Mexican food. It's the same thing everywhere. Look, if you use white American cheese in your enchiladas, you are BY DEFINITION not authentic. But that's not what you get here. You're going to get food like you would find in the interior of Mexico. It might even break your concept of Mexican food a little. If they have the mole when you're there, go for it. They have different kinds that they bring out at different times of the year. You can even talk to Memo, the owner. He's a fantastic guy and will even help you decide what you'd like to try. Go try this place. If you want to go back to your silly white American cheese after that, then do so. But my guess is you're going to be a convert to real Mexican food. Hey @NicT, my husband and I were the other couple in the restaurant today. You didn't just say a bad word, you yelled the F word in the middle of a restaurant with children at your table. I know that because you were yelling. Also, why are you concerned what the owner was discussing with us? I had asked him what part of Mexico he's from because my grandmother is from Mexico. He was not doing that to make you notice and he was not loud. Your table was already seated when we entered. It wasn't until you were finished that we heard you complain to anybody about your food. It wasn't loud in there, as it was only your table and ours. So if your food was so as you put it nasty, why did you eat it and then expect to not have to pay? Maybe you should've complained before eating the rest of it. Oh, and we did notice you went straight out to your car to type in your one star review, lol. Maybe you didn't like the food so much because you don't realize that Mexican food depends upon the region. And his cooking style was very much where he is from in Mexico. On the flipside, my husband and I really liked our food. We had wonderful service and a wonderful conversation, about the differences in cuisine and how much I liked the Birria. We discussed that I was from San Antonio. He was NOT contradicting you, he was answering my questions and just chatting. We discussed where they source their meat from and found out. It was a local place that my husband and I go to as well. My husband and I will definitely be back. We had a fabulous meal and enjoyed our food tremendously. I am sorry that you did not. The restaurant is clean staff is friend... however, you when I would question about salsa, and queso, the lead waitress was very snooty towards me. On the menu, it called it Blanco queso, but it was not. They had chips and salsa, but they charge for any additional chips and salsa that you request. The restaurant was not busy at the time and the serving size was very small for the chorizo. Hubs brought me here on a Friday for lunch. He had been the prior week and said I HAD to try them out and I'm sure glad I did! They had just opened the doors for lunch when we arrived and were seated immediately. It is a small, quaint restaurant with not many tables. We started off with a cheese dip and I ordered the regular guacamole but they didn't have any prepared yet, so I tried the Guacamole Autentico. Oh my word! This Guacamole is amazing!! It's perfect! It hits your taste buds in all of the right places!! Then we ordered our meal. It was hard to decide, everything sounded amazing, but I also wanted to try something different, so we ordered 3 entrees. The Mushroom Quesadilla, the Quesobirria, and the steak fajitas. Everything was absolutely amazing! The flavor combinations just burst in your mouth. Our server was absolutely wonderful! Drinks never got less than 1/2 full and he pre-bused the table! LOVE when that happens!! We are telling everyone we know about Memo's and the plan is to go back again this weekend and take some friends! Finally made it out to Memos kitchen after hearing so many good things about it. Let me tell you, it is well-worth the hype! We started with cocktails and their frijoles bean dip. The bean dip was excellent, and we wish we could have stayed there all afternoon drinking their cocktails. We had the huevos rancheros and the breakfast burrito as our entrees, and really enjoyed them both. We left there with very full, happy bellies! We have been here several times and the last visit was not as good. It started with a couple leaving as we came in telling us another restaurant was better. When we got inside we were told there would be a 10-15 minutes wait. There were several empty tables and I noticed they had even removed some tables. The dining room was very clean. It would have been nice to have salt shakers on the table. The overall feel of the staff was "we are tired". The servers workflow is very inefficient resulting in them walking around more than necessary and taking a long time to get back to everyone. I ran out of water and had to catch the server for refills. No one ever checked to see if we needed anything else or if our food was ok. The food was not as good as usual and the prices are substantially higher than other similar places. The portion size is ok but you won't have any thing left to take home. My husband got the birria nachos and they were served in a basket on paper. The cheese soaked through and made a gloppy mess. This would have been better on a regular plate. I got the quesabarria and it was really good but portion size is a little small for the price. read more

We used to frequent this restaurant until early last summer. Their specials was shrimp tacos that evening. They were not serving the dish that we normally order. How you could see our plates from 3 tables down is beyond me. She didn't cuss until after the owner came out aggressively. Also, in several of the other reviews, you can read how either he or the waitress came out just as aggressive. The food was salty, the rice was pretty much minute rice. Hands down you should go to Memo's! It's my favorite place to take friends that are visiting. To be honest, I haven't had a single thing from the menu that I did not love. Staff are very well versed to help you find a meal you'll love. I recommend the quesabirria- hands down!! The fresh guacamole is delicious also. Don't skip inquiring of the daily special. Please do not let the location of this restaurant (in a strip mall) deter you. This is an absolute treat! On to the important things..... margaritas. Katie can make a MEAN margarita. The seasonal ones have never disappointed. Recently, I had the rhubarb and my lunch date had grape. Neither were sweet. Both were delicious. This is now my favorite Mexican food. Memos has delicious seasonal handcrafted cocktails and authentic family recipe entrees, along with more well known favorites. We've tried the quesabirria, the enchiladas suizas, street tacos, queso and burrito and they're all delicious. The first two are the standout, however. This is a restaurant that takes pride in complex ingredients, rich flavor and well-timed service from the kitchen. If you're looking for generic American Mexican food this isn't going to work for you. If you're a foodie who loves Mexican... you found your place. We will be back again and again. read more

Being from California we have high expectations for Mexican food. We've lived in the area for many years and had resigned ourselves to what was around the Donelson and MJ area. We didn't expect much when trying Memo's but I'm happy to say we were surprised and pleased at the food here. Prices are reasonable; because of the world we live in with high demand and low supply, a shortage of people willing to work, we expected to pay more. Someone mentioned they had to pay more for more chips, but that was not the case with us. Service - appropriately timed and knowledgeable about the menu and specials. We also got to meet Katie, Memo's wife and we're very impressed - they paid their employees during flood repair time not long after they had just opened. Wow. Just wow. Good people here, no doubt. Appetizer - chorizo queso and chips. Very flavorful, texture was a little thinner than I would've liked but the taste made up for it. Chips refilled often. Drinks - mango margarita, delicious. Dinner - our daughter, pickiest eater, loved the quesadilla and fries. Great amount of cheese in the quesadilla too. Husband had the steak quesadilla special and ate the whole thing. Flavorful and you knew when they said they slow cooked the meat, it was worth it. I had the grilled chicken chimichangas, they were delicious, and the rice isn't your typical rice. I'm a local resident of Wilson County. My wife and I found Memo's Kitchen a few months ago. It is the best authentic Mexican food you will find!! Everything is made from scratch. The handmade margaritas are amazing. The authentic menu consists of better, kitchen versions of the usual offerings like burritos and tacos. But the highlights are the traditional dishes not found typically found elsewhere, like barilla and pibill. Tacos are served in fresh, handmade tortillas, and fresh salsa and guacamole start everything off on the right note! Add in wonderful, friendly, and quick service and it all makes Memo's our favorite Mexican restaurant. Guy Fieri needs to find this place for DDD! read more

We had the weirdest experience. we walked into the virtually empty restaurant and told them we had 7 people. the lady told me they only have one table that sits that many and I said "okay that's fine because we can split up" (they had atleast 20 empty tables) and she said "yeh we can't do that" and said "and that one table just ordered so you probably don't want to wait". This place is the best Mexican restaurant you can go to in the Nashville area, BUT it's not traditional run of the meal, ordering a #4 speed Gonzalez type restaurant. This place is the brainchild of Memo and his wife, who have curated their favorite recipes including some secret family ones. They have amazing cocktails that are crafted by Katie, who has a background in mixology. There are seasonal additions and versions along with their staples. The "Best Darn" margarita is hard to beat which they now offer in a pitcher, YES PLEASE!! The Quesabirra is AMAZING so much that my wife won't order anything else, ever, and we go almost weekly on Friday nights. I am running the gamut of all the menu options. Very surprising is the Liver & Onions. If you fancy Liver. Don't ask for crazy customization of menu items, as they want to mess up a good thing. If you want traditional Mexican, go to Dos Sisters, if you want gourmet authentic curated Mexican cuisine, amazing drinks and don't mind paying a little extra for these things you must try it out. They are very careful to manage seating so that they don't bog down their kitchen or wait staff so if you want little to no wait, get there early on Fridays, before 5:30ish is best for little to no wait, otherwise expect to wait 10-20 mins for a two top (+1 toddler for us). Wanted to like this, especially since the staff was so friendly and the decor is so inviting. I often focus my reviews on the food and gloss over such things as whether service animals are allowed and atmosphere like what type of background music they play and instead focus on the food. Unfortunately for this place, it is the food that brings it down. The food was just okay. We tried two different things. Mine wasn't terrible - not even memorable, but G's wasn't good and is memorable for it being bad. Bland. Boring. Baweful. Even the chips and salsa were...well, despite claims they were made on-site, like they were store-bought. And not even the good kind.
