    The train
    Elizabeth M.

We've sat in every car of the train. My son is two and seem's to like them all. But I love the back because it seems to catch a nice draft :-) Anyway, the conductors vary. I've had some really nice ones and some that just seemed annoyed to be working there (actually it was only 2 times and it was a girl). But this never stops me because it's never ruined our experience so far. It is after all about the ride. The ticket they give you when you purchase is fun though because when they come to your car to lock the door they ask for your ticket and use a hole punch. Kind of like they would in a real train. The duration of the ride this time was 8:57.9. I thought it was expensive enough when it was $3. It costs $4 a person now (children and adults alike). I think it's kind of over priced but I like taking my son on the train so I guess that's just the price we'll have to pay to continue enjoying the train. Also, I am kind of annoyed after reading other reviews. I had never seen anything that said children under 1 were free and I've been taking my son there for a long time and had to pay full price every time. Also, I've never been offered a punch card. I guess I'll have to ask for one next time so I can get the FREE ride.

This conductor asked me for a tip before we boarded the train and I later saw him driving the train while looking down at his cellphone.

I hate spending money on these types of rides. For $4 (per person), it's a little expensive but after hearing the rave reviews from one of my besties and Yelp Elite buddy (Aimee) I decided I'd splurge and take my 2 year old son on it. Keep in mind, I waited a few weeks to write this so the emotion I felt that day may pass....however, every time I think of this day, it just weirds me out! We got to the train right as the conductor was taking a break. We watched him walk off and waited about 10 minutes for him to come back. No biggie...we were the only ones waiting (April 12, 5pm). When he got back we paid our $4 each and we stated to get into the back of the train but then.... He blindsided me by asking me for a tip...mind you this was BEFORE we even boarded the train!!!!! First of all, I don't mind giving a tip but it's pretty tasteless to ask for a tip prior. He went on to telling me his sad story of how he works for minimum wage, works 40 hours a week with no overtime pay, and that he basically lives off tips. Then he asked me if I knew what overtime was...I tried to brush this off and told him that we would tip at the END of the ride. That must have upset him a little because he went on again about tips and I insisted I would tip after. At this point, I wanted to just leave but my poor son had waited so patiently and already was super excited to ride. Once we got in the train we had to listen to him talk about his family life and how his sisters were nice and how his mom said girls can be mean. I think he may have some type of disability and needs some serious retraining on appropriate conversations to have with paying customers. Our ride was much shorter than what I hear others have. It was about 6 minutes long. I hear others say the ride is longer. TO MAKE THINGS WORSE!!!! After we got off, we saw him driving his train around again....and he was on his PHONE! He was looking down at his phone as he was driving. I was appalled that not only did he have a full train with families and young children, but there were a lot of people walking around the mall as he drove inattentively. I get that I may have had just a bad conductor but BEWARE! I will also post a photo I got of him so you can avoid this conductor if at all possible. The only upside to this experience (the one star) is that my son had a great time. Other than that, I don't think I'll ever ride the train at Windward Mall again.

*$3 per person, under age 1 is free, punch card - every six rides merits a free ride* "TRAIN! TRAIN! TRAIN! TRAAAAAAIIIIINNNN!" screams my daughter, convulsing with excitement. The ding-dinging of the bell leads my children away like the pied piper of Hamelin and we find ourselves in line, once again, for the Cubby Caboose. I am obliged to ride the train with my children as they are under 5, and though I pretend to feel silly and awkward, I am inwardly pleased. My children tremble with anticipation as the conductor visits each car to punch the tickets and our joyous cry of "All Aboard" (alright, I do feel silly in this moment), sets the cars in motion. The train travels throughout the mall, it's path varying with the crowds. It goes faster than you imagine it would and attempting to follow it makes you look like a jogging fool. In the beginning it followed a set path, blaring it's horn at people "How DARE you try to meander through the mall with no purpose, you're blocking the TRAIN!", but now it takes a less offensive approach making little loop-de-loops if the mall is particularly crowded. Occasionally it releases a gush of fake steam and does it's piper ding-a-ling, the combo of which makes my children nearly crap themselves with glee. If your kids have train on the brain, ride this thing. If you don't ride it, you don't love your children. I love my children. Lots. I've loved my children at least seven times this year not counting how much I loved them at the Dole Plantation Pineapple Express. I'm a good mother.

Three things we really like about Windward Mall: it's not very crowded, the soft surface kids play area, and the train. My girls LOVE the train. The ride costs $3 per person (an adult must ride with children under 5 years old) but it's totally worth it when you see your kids smile from ear to ear. Plus, it runs throughout the year, not just during the holidays like some other trains. So the next time you take your kids to Windward Mall, say hi to some animals at Ko'olau Pets, get some Cinnabon, and ride the train. Your kids will think you are the best parent ever.

$4 per person (5/3/2018) for a 10ish minute train ride through Windward Mall. Even babies are charged the same price. I would have thought a 20 month old might get on for free or at least cheaper. My 4 year old son saw this train and really wanted to take a ride. He was wide eyed and ecstatic for the first 3 minutes. He pointed out all the stores we passed by and waved at people. It's pretty cool that a train can drive around safely through an indoor mall. I guess its because Windward Mall isn't too crowded especially on weekdays. This is something easy to do with kids on a rainy day if you happen to be in the area. The train stop is located near the food court.

This is a fun little train ride around the mall! Great for kids, especially train lovers like my son. $4 per ride. My only dislike is that they don't always open on time. Or at least it happened the last two times I went.

What a blessing for Asher to do one of his favorite things!

I am very grateful for this company. My son is autistic and they had special accommodations for him. So blessed to have a business that is supportive of familes that have special needs kids!

Real "steam" at at beginning of the ride, a highlight for my daughter!

She's warm, energetic, and genuinely passionate about what she does--without ever feeling overwhelming or intrusive. Gentry stepped in about two months before our wedding and took so much off our plate. She was incredibly responsive, handled vendor communications seamlessly, and managed last-minute updates with ease. Throughout the entire process, I felt completely taken care of and confident that she would bring our vision to life. What really stood out was her attention to detail and proactive approach. She suggested things we hadn't even considered (like renting microphones), but was never pushy and always respected our decisions. Anytime I had a concern, she had either already handled it or immediately jumped into action--like when I worried about muddy transportation on our rainy wedding day, and she had already coordinated with the vendor. Despite the pouring rain, Gentry showed up with the most positive energy and made everything feel effortless. She truly made our dream wedding possible, and I can't imagine doing it without her. Highly, highly recommend!

Finally got a response so I go over the package and call them back with questions for all these "extra charges." Getting married outside of Honolulu? There's a charge for that. Having the ceremony and reception at different locations? There's a charge for that. Having it at the same place? There's a charge for that too. More than 75 guests? You guessed it!!! There's a charge for that too! Paying with a credit card so you can earn miles? Yes, there's a charge for that. 3.5% processing fee to be exact! But with all those extra charges, I was still going to book them because of their reputation. I mean look at their reviews! So, I told them to send me the contract and it never came. Two weeks later, I get a email apologizing for the delay and asking me where my venue was again. Are you serious? I need an organized coordinator that I can trust! I sent them an email saying I will no longer need their services. Guess how many emails I got after that? Like five in a row with more apologies and excuses of how busy they were and how they're working on hiring and training someone to make the contracts. Whatever, I don't care. You can't handle the volume of your business, that's your problem. I need someone that can handle. I'm so happy I didn't go with them.
