I'm not sure if it's still called a supercentre, but this bus terminal used to be a big Rustan's mall of sorts, housing a grocery, department store, and other small businesses inside the complex. My family used to do our groceries here all the time, so I spent a good time of my childhood here. I remember taking the department store escalator to a Bon Apetit confectionery stall, visiting the Yamaha school upstairs where my brother learned the drums, and going through the excellent Booksale in the back entrance of the mall.
With all of Cubao's developments Rustan's had to jump ship and find its new home in Gateway, but even with most of the place deserted a lot of businesses stayed like Columbia Photo or the Lyric music store or new ones cropped up like a thrift shop, beauty supply store, and even a call center. They've all gone as well.
Now there's nothing much left but a busy, chaotic bus terminal and I'm not exactly sure what they're going to be building over it but I hope it's a good enough replacement for the memories I made. read more
