CTAG took care of every single detail of our trip, yet at the same time, our trip was our "own" for just the two of us. CTAG arranged the flights from Miami to Havana, the visas, and the money exchange, advised us on filling out the forms, and arranged a guide, driver, lodging, and activities. Their "sample" itinerary was perfect for us: a salsa dancing lesson, a drive in a beautifully restored vintage 1955 Dodge, a cooking lesson in the countryside at an eco-savvy farm, a visit to a tobacco farm, a night at the Tropicana, a night at the Buena Vista Social Club, lunch with a university professor / former diplomat, walking tours everywhere, a visit to a Cuban art museum, lodging at darling private boutique residences, and meals at wonderful restaurants. Our guide, Brayan ("Brian"), and driver, Noel, were exceptional. Brayan was a wealth of information, always with a smile on his face. He listened hard to us and made subtle changes to our itinerary to accommodate our wishes. Noel was always there to pick us up, give us bottles of water, and drop us off, and since my wife is fluent in Spanish, Noel was also a fun part of our "family." Brayan speaks perfect English, loves to share information, has a deep knowledge of the history and culture of Cuba, and truly loves to discuss almost any subject you can imagine. We got to know Cuba - the history, the feeling of it, the rhythms of life there - on an exponentially deeper level than if we had tried it on our own. Thank you, Manny and Cary, for all of the trip planning, and thank you, Brayan and Noel, for executing our trip so flawlessly and making it SO fun!

It's so full of funky architecture, spectacular Bay views, a few hidden beaches, and plenty of colorful residents. This place is a total trip! Where else in the world can you find such a unique, seaside community with so many photo opps. Although this makes for a fun tourist destination, you have to remember that people actually live here. Translation: be respectful of the communal decks and property. Otherwise, you may endure the wrath of some salty, seaside locals. Like I said, there are quite a few characters (old hippies, young yippies, artists, etc.) who live around here. Consider yourself warned. Even when I'm not playing tour guide to guests, I like strolling here with my dog (yes, it's dog-friendly... as long as they're on leash). It's just a really relaxing spot, and it reminds me of how lucky we are to live in such an amazing area. When visiting, I'd recommend parking near the Mike's Bikes shop and Davey Jone's Deli. But be sure to lock your doors. The area can sometimes attract car burglars.

Rumor has it that Michael Lewis, the guy who wrote Money Ball, The Blind Side, and The Big Short, all of which were made into movies, also owns a houseboat in Sausalito. His house on terra firma is just across the bridge in Berkeley. Just a million dollars for a tiny home on the water in Marin paradise. Location, location, location!

Previously, we took the Freda B on the Wildlife Morning Sail in 2024, which was also fantastic. What makes the Freda B special is the crew. The vessel itself is gorgeous--even the "head" is great! Whether you have a clear night or a little fog (like tonight), the skies are beautiful, the Golden Gate Bridge is magical, and San Francisco twinkles in the distance. The crew meets your every need with kindness, excellent service, and genuine interest in you as a passenger. They're also an interesting bunch--just ask them about themselves! The ferry ride is short and then you can hang out on the island until you're ready to go. I ran around the island which is 5.5 miles via the perimeter trail. There isn't much on the island so most people seemed to bring snacks and a picnics, but the little store also has some food and postcards! It's a fun activity to try and the island has great views of the city and lots of cool abandoned buildings and other historic relics.

You get incredible views of the San Francisco skyline, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the surrounding bay. It is a great spot for hiking, biking, or just relaxing by the water. The highlight for me was the Immigration Station. Walking through the barracks and reading the poems carved into the walls is powerful. It gives you a deeper appreciation for the history and the experiences of those who passed through. It is not something to rush through. Take your time and really take it in. Try to go earlier in the day so you have enough time to explore both the trails and the station. Also check the ferry schedule ahead of time so you are not cutting your visit short. Overall, it is a great mix of nature and history. Beautiful, meaningful, and definitely worth visiting.
