Ughh..this location is not good at all. I purchased meatballs to make for an event I was hosting and was upset to see they had moldy fuzz all over them later that evening when I went to prepare them. The basil is always sooooo dirty and impossible to get fully clean. The produce is never fresh. I always have to check the dates on cans to make sure the item is still good to use. The produce at C-town is better than Whole Foods, Key Foods, Union Market and Fairway. I actually go to Fairway for regular groceries and then go to this C-town specifically for the produce: watercress, parsley, cilantro, everything is always very fresh, and rotated, i very rarely see anything rotting or wilting. It is also at least *half the price* of Whole Foods or Fairway. Whoever is in charge of the Produce is doing an excellent job. We just bought green beans last night and they were truly perfect. They have several organic options available more recently: milk, eggs, would be great if they added additoinal organic meats, Murray's chicken, for instance. Their beer selection is fantastic. CTown Supermarkets - Produce section at C-town always looking good! - Grocery Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

This is an average NYC outer-borough neighborhood supermarket. Most people shop here b/c they have to, not b/c it is a destination. They carry their groceries home, or have them delivered (which they do promptly and cheaply, for only $5, even if you have a TON of them). Of the 4 grocery stores walking distance to my crib, they have the largest selection, as well as the most reasonable prices. They also have a VERY good and VERY REASONABLY PRICED, rotating, and seasonal CRAFT BEER selection, stocked by the now legendary Union Beer of Brooklyn, hence really a 3.5 star rating. In addition, the following review was filtered out. I have witnessed all of them before (although not personally experienced), and appears factual at all levels of a not-improbable experience, so I am including below: "Stopping in here, even just for milk, can ruin your day. How do they handle the floors when it's raining? They shred their own circulars and toss them on the wet floor. They make you take your groceries out of the basket and put them on the conveyor belt, and they do this by staring at you with disgust while they stand with arms akimbo. They would literally rather do nothing than take your groceries out of the basket when it's sitting on the conveyor belt. It seems like half the perishables have already perished, the PA system is always set on half static, half radio that's running commercials at ear-splitting levels. The cashiers will actually crane their heads around you to talk to each other, even when you're handing them payment. I always feel like they resent that I walked in the door. I will walk an extra half mile from now on, even in the rain, rather than go here again." read more

If you're a health nut living in the area, you're going to end up using FreshDirect / AmazonFresh. Produce selection is decent, though it can be quite picked through depending on timing. No organics. I was on a quest for burgers, and after throwing out my 12th one from ShopRite in the middle of eating it because I couldn't stomach another bite, I decided to give CTown a try. The burgers I got were from Meadowbrook Farm, and they were awful to the point that I got through one, choked in the middle of the second one, and threw the remainder of it and the last two in the garbage. (And at $6.59/# as opposed to ShopRite's $4.39/#, no less!) They should be embarrassed to have garbage like that on their shelves! I gave them two stars rather than one, because I generally like the store (for the little I buy there)... It's clean and inviting, Pepsi fridge packs have always got the best dating in the neighborhood, when I patronized the deli counter I got nice sized, well made sandwiches, and I generally don't find the prices objectionable. Yeah, it's tight quarters, but that's because they've got a lot of merchandise crammed into a not too large space, and I"ll take the trade-off. But those burgers? WHEW!!! :( read more

Coming to this store after work is a complete and utter nightmare. The lines are always long and move so slow without any communication if a cashier is closing down for the night. However, the store has plenty of sales and affordable every day prices for some items. Most of the sales items are always on stock but always double check the prices on the meat -- they list $1.99 a pound but on the label they price meat at $3.99 a pound. read more

The staff was courteous and helpful but the store is overcrowded. You can not have 2 people in an aisle. I wouldn't consider it a supermarket but an overpriced grocery store. Nothing was on sale or had a promotion. The only parking is the meters on Ave.U. They only had Halal meat -which I purchased and found really hard to chew for my taco (-. The cereal was 4.89$ a box which I can purchase elsewhere for 3.89$. It didn't have a large selection of dog food,just a few cheap bags- which I'd never feed my dog. There was a selection of dried fruits and nuts for 9.99 Pound which was not happening ! They accept Wic but not coupons. But if you really have to buy food- 40$ doesn't go far on over priced neighborhood stores. read more

What I like about this market is that they know the neghibmrgood, and they know which products are the ones people around here will look for. You can find here nice options of Spanish products to make the people who use the place find what they are looking for. Most likely the worst supermarket I've ever gone to routinely. The fact it's a block away from my apartment is the only reason I go there. Today's adventure is purchasing 2 year old (expired Aug 3, 2012) cheese dip for nachos. Getting it home and popping the lid to see mold and firm cheese wasn't actually the worst part of it. It was going back and attempting to ask to speak to a manager (named Jerry.) When the cashier (who to be fair is always helpful and tries her hardest to provide great service.) called for him multiple times before attempting to solve my situation herself. She told me to go get another one and that she would bring up the situation. I wasn't able to actually find any other cheese except for 99 cent untz cheese containers and cheese whiz. No one was able to verify that they had any more and 3 different people attempted to direct me to locations without actually escorting me to the item. The cashier was apologetic and offered to just refund my money. This entire time the manager was still no where to be found and never made an appearance the entire time. I absolutely HATE this supermarket. Where do I begin......... The place is ridiculously small and not wheelchair friendly. Two people can barely walk down the same isle without one person having to move out the way. The produce is gross. Never fresh. You have to pick through to find the good ones. They are ALWAYS stocking during the day. I do not understand this. I am from the Philadelphia area and back home supermarkets stock at NIGHT after business hours so it does not disrupt business and get in peoples way. The place is too damn small to try and stock during the day when the regular crowd can not even shop comfortably there. The customer service or lack there of is horrendous. Many, not all, the cashiers who work there have attitude like they hate their life and hate their job. I know everyone has a bad day, but this is the attitude I get every time I go in there. I only go when NEEDED as it is the closest and freshest market in my area. How sad. If you need to get in and out and are buying only packaged foods then this place is ok. This is a pretty solid supermarket that's getting better all the time. They're almost done renovating, and once that's through, it will certainly be the best option in the area. It caters to the largely Hispanic and Caribbean communities nearby, so it's great if you're looking for three kinds of masa, half a dozen varieties of chorizo, and some guava paste. But then it's not so great if you're looking for club soda. There is a nice, if small, selection of fruits and vegetables, and I would get meat here over some other local options any day (I'm lookin' at you, Key Food on Foster). It's right around the corner from Newkirk Plaza, so it's close to the train, but also I've never had a problem with street parking if I'm getting more stuff than I can carry. There's metered parking, but honestly, I've never dropped a quarter. I'm in and out so quick, since there are never any lines. read more

I'm never going back! Beware it's not family friendly. I asked a young African American man who has been working there for awhile since I've been going for some help today and he swiped his hand across my butt. He didn't even apologize which made me think it was intentional. I even apologized for his mistake out of shock and still he ignored it. It could've been a mistake, idk, but this made me so uncomfortable to the point I'm writing this review. I HATE this supermarket. The only reason that I go there is because it is the closest supermarket to my house. They are 75% complete with the renovations. While the renovations have brought more variety and selections, the prices are ridiculous. They now have an organic section but $4 for a can of soup is ridiculous. Not even Whole Foods charges this much for the same brand. With the renovations, they still have not improved the width of the aisles which was a major problem before and it still is. They crowd the aisles with displays so 2 people who are going down the aisle cannot pass each other. One has to back out of the aisle so the other can get by. They needed to either make the aisles wider or greatly diminish the amount of aisle displays and forget it it someone is also unpacking stock at the same time. I have to leave my cart at the end of the aisle and walk in to get what I need. I only go this market for emergencies, or if I am having a large party where I am getting a large quantity of stuff, so I don't have to walk too far and they also deliver, if needed. read more

They have improved so much over the past six years- better lighting, mural on the outer walls, better quality in produce and, and frequent sales on eggs (3 dozen, 5 bucks? thanks!) It's not my favourite place, but it does what i need it to do, which is supply the groceries. It's really not THAT bad people!! You're in Brooklyn NY, don't expect to have wide aisles like in the suburbs where you came from...and this is Flatbush, not Brooklyn Heights, ok? So given all that, it's a pretty decent place to shop. They have renovated it a few years back, and actually are so much BETTER now. They have lots of ethnic food (Caribbean, Latin, Mexican AND Jewish). They've added some organic food and dairy (didn't exist in this neighborhood 5-6 years ago..) Staff is mostly Hispanic, as I suspect the owners are, and it's fine by me. Why do people have problems with that, when they chose to live in NYC??! Anyways - it's so much better now. And there's a a manager on the floor always. Just ask for him. He's helped me many times. If you come with an attitude like your on the Upper West Side, you'll get an attitude back. read more

Produce and meat is always very fresh and they have recently expanded their beer section and now have many craft beers. They are also expanding their grocery to include many organic and specialty items. Staff is always very helpful and there is always a manager on the floor. good for the emergency pre-9:30 pm run for milk, eggs, or spaghetti, but more than 60% of the time, the meat smells and tastes like soap. I have also seen an entirely white, moldy tomato AND potato thus far sitting in the middle of their respective piles. They also place the spinach at the top of watered veggie piles so that the carrots (which look great!) end up extremely slimy and covered in sand and dirt from the spinach. it just feels gross to pick through the carrots i want and can no longer bring myself to even bother unless i'm desperate enough to just not walk further to another grocery. read more

This place does the job. I'm biased because the other place near me no longer carries the Spanish Rice Rica-a-Roni, and C-Town does! Very specific, I know, but also their veggies are reliable and affordable. Just got some nice avocados for a good price. I'm really writing this review in response to the complaint here that register people won't take your groceries out of your basket for you. Lazy shopper! In New York we unload our own baskets, duh; it's luxury enough that they bag for you, you can't unload your basket while you're waiting? That's why they have those plastic bars, to separate your items from those of the person in front of you. Just plopping your basket on the conveyor belt and standing back with your arms folded is rude to the check out person, and to the person behind you whose time you've wasted. This is the cleanest, freshest, most friendly grocery store in the neighborhood and I LOVE THESE PEOPLE. They take great care of our family and we hope we take good care of them too. The manager will order anything you want or need, and my favorite cashier makes my week. Delivery is on time, and they bring it right into the apartment. It took me two and half years to find them. A desperation spot for staples, preferably inorganic. Most of the produce is fugly and I wouldn't go near the meats. Cashiers are sloooooow. Good luck getting they the store with a stroller. The staff seems to feel that their stocking of the shelves is much more important than your shopping. Yes its good to know I am not alone in my thoughts of this revolting place. Its more the dumb ignorant clientele that goes there that gets me! I have been known to stand for up to 10 mins waiting to pass some African American woman, whilst they read the back of the $1 tin they are contemplating. Yes they know I am there, they are just ignorant to the rest of the world. Saying "excuse me" could get you knocked out in there. Disgusting animals to be avoided at all cost. BTW the pricing is almost on par with whole foods manhattan so I dont know why anyone finds it reasonable. Have returned home several times to find I have purchased expired goods at full price, a dozen eggs, half of them cracked, and a huge box of expensive ice cream bars that have melted to the core, and just been placed in the freezer to reset. Not only this but I have bought meats from there, marked "chicken" only to find an old turkey in there lol Have this chain even researched the industry? no business knowledge whatsoever..tiny aisles etc. If you ever get the feeling you want a taco pack stay away, I think they take all the boxes and stamp on them. I have never bought a box without half the shells broken, maybe because the dumbos keep them on the top shelf. That is the last time I go there, ever, the next time I feel like being pushed in front of in the line, by someone waving a benefit card like its a vip pass I will just go file for section 8 like they all do. I live within 5 mins of this crap hole. The residents around here love it, they use their food stamps up, come home, get high, pig out, then throw their trash out their apartment window.
